So, the lowest a table-topper after 15 games (EPL) has finished is 6th (Villa, 1999). I reckon we can beat that.

Will Leicester win the league?

The team that's top in early December is most likely to go on to claim the title, right?

If history is any indicator, Leicester City have actually got almost a 50-50 chance of causing a massive shock and becoming champions.

In Premier League history, the team top after 15 games has gone on to win the title 47.8% of the time. And that rises to 72.7% over the past 11 seasons.

Manchester United have been top after 15 games eight times - and have converted that into a title on six occasions

But of the eight different clubs to be top at this stage, only three - Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea - have gone on to win the title.

But the team that finished 14th the previous season has never won the league!

What I'm saying is looking for trends in historical stats is fundamentally flawed, like whoever is bottom on Christmas day will be relegated.

We have given ourselves a great chance of a great final position, at the moment that is all.

This seems crucial to me. I'd be really interested in an analysis of teams that have finished mid-table the season before. However, I imagine that'd be pretty difficult, since not many teams have ever been in our current position.

But at least the analysis is taking into account a single season. Clearly, our 32 points after 15 games may have a substantial bearing on the likelihood of us finishing around the top four. Last year's finishing place has absolutely no influence on this season

Of course, we aren't out of the running, in fact we are in pole position, but just because no team who is leading at this stage has finished below sixth, doesn't mean that we will finish at  least sixth. All it means is we have given ourselves a great start and a great chance of achieving our highest finish in my lifetime.

But it is only a chance and we have to take it.

Another way of looking at that is the 'smaller' teams, Norwich, Villa, Newcastle (though that was the Keegan season I believe) have never kept the form up for all of the season.

Spurs and Everton are the only 'smaller' teams to make it the CL outside the big clubs in recent history.

Getting to the Europa league is an achievement, CL unbelievable, Champions dreamland!

Oh and here's another statistic. We've never won the league in the top tier. So historically our chances are slim.

By that same token we've never won it so I guess that should change eventually.

We have however stormed the Championship in the recent past with more than a handful of players in our current squad.

This is a young and hungry team who want success full of quality, we have given ourselfs an unbelievable chance now to go and get a top 4 finish and possibily the best chance ever to actually win it, the big question is can these players keep this up all season one things for sure this is no fluke.
