Guest Bilo Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 Dream and nightmare Champions League groups. Dream Group Barcelona - One of the world's most iconic stadia in one of Europe's most beautiful cities. Should alleviate the pain of the likely battering. Leicester Anderlecht - As easy to get to as Newcastle, possibly quite winnable and very fine beer. Maccabi Tel Aviv - Wouldn't fancy the trip but their performances this year suggest they'd give us half a chance of at least transferring to the EL. Nightmare Group PSG - Unpleasant stadium, far right fans, overpriced city and likely battering. Leicester Napoli - Naples is a dump, Italian police hate English fans, fans are stabby. Astana - Fancy a 7 hour flight midweek? Just a wee bit of fun - I'm bored. This isn't intended to tempt fate of course, was just wondering whether others had thought about how exciting next season could be if we were to continue pulling off the improbable.
Izzy Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 was just wondering whether others had thought about how exciting next season could be if we were to continue pulling off the improbable. I'm too busy thinking about how exciting this season is. I don't have the brain power to think about next season as well
Wymsey Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 Dream Group: Inter Milan - Would be nice to be reunited with Mancini. Arsenal - Nice stadium, and better fans than likes of Liverpool and the Manchester teams in terms of creating atmosphere. Real Madrid - Bale and Ronaldo (if the latter doesn't move), playing against them would greatly show how far we've come - and compare if Mahrez is in the same league as them. Wolfsburg - Nice stadium, decent bars, and team plays similar to us; fans strong as well, also. Nightmare Group: Monaco - Small stadium, lack of passionate fans (just rich). Manchester United - One of the media's favourite teams, and one I really hope don't win silverware for donkeys years. Lech Poznan - Imagine if we scored against them, and only a small number of our fans did the jumping up and down celebration which they're experts in/known for? Lazio - Have both thuggish teams and fans.
Collymore Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 How the chuff is Anderlecht as easy to get to than Newcastle? The ISS can be closer to Leicester than Newcastle but it doesn't mean its as easy to get to!
Guest Bilo Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 How the chuff is Anderlecht easier to get to than Newcastle? The ISS is closer to Leicester than Newcastle but it doesn't mean its easier to get to! I was speaking figuratively. Train from Leicester to St Pancras, Eurostar from St Pancras to Brussels. We'd take thousands.
WesMorganGod Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 I have a question, something I am not sure about... can you get English teams in the champions league group stage? Because I noticed that I never saw 2 English teams in the same group.. but maybe its just a coincidence. I'm not sure

bovril Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 I'd love.... Fiorentina Porto Dinamo Bucharest Or maybe... Monaco IFK Ferencvaros

I'd certainly travel to Anderlecht and Barca - don't fancy tel aviv much though! I'd take a week off to see us play Zenit as I've never been. Would like to go to: Malmo, Gent (Beer orientated), PSG (easy travel and lovely place to chill) and Young Boys (not in that way) - I say these mainly because they are places I've not frequented much apart from Paris. Naples is a dangerous place for unsuspecting tourists and yes Bilo - a bit stabby!
Carl the Llama Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 I'm going to pretend this thread doesn't exist.
Izzy Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 I hope this doesn't become one of those threads we'll all look back and cringe at if we finish 8th
Collymore Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 I was speaking figuratively. Train from Leicester to St Pancras, Eurostar from St Pancras to Brussels. We'd take thousands. Euro star is expensive. I'd be taking the ferry. Already got my magnetic GB badge stuck to the fridge so I'm already a step closer to champions league football than most...
Dan Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 Without wanting to risk upsetting those who think if we tail off this season it's because of this thread... Dream: Hertha Berlin - Massive allocation and a fantastic city by all accounts. We'd take an absolutely outrageous number to this. They're third in Germany as well. Ajax - Similar reasoning to Hertha. Sparta Prague - Something like this, another one like the last two and it's very winnable too. I'd be happy with anything along these lines. Nightmare: Rubin Kazan - Russia in general is just an offput due to the stupid costs involved. Red Bull Salzburg - What a soulless experience this would be. Astana - It's just so bloody far. It's further away than USA. I have a question, something I am not sure about... can you get English teams in the champions league group stage? Because I noticed that I never saw 2 English teams in the same group.. but maybe its just a coincidence. I'm not sure You can't draw teams from your own country until the quarter final.
Dan Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 I hope this doesn't become one of those threads we'll all look back and cringe at if we finish 8th Why would we? We're top of the Premier League in December. It would take a horrible run to finish 8th.

Guest Bilo Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 People do realise that this is strictly hypothetical? It's like asking what you'd buy if you were to win the lottery, nobody expects you to pop down to the Bentley dealer and put in an order.
bovril Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 Olympiacos away in mid-September would also be nice.
Nick Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 I didn't think about Gent! Switzerland or Sweden would also be special, I agree. Yeah, never been to Sweden. Switzerland many times but only in the mountains - would be cool to get a different perspective.
AKCJ Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 Dortmund - Would be amazing. Malmo - Swedish birds. Athletico Madrid - Revenge.
Guest Bilo Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 Let's not forget that there are some fantastic trips available in the EL as well should we make top 6. These are exciting times.
Izzy Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 Why would we? We're top of the Premier League in December. It would take a horrible run to finish 8th. I'm not suggesting for a minute that we'll finish 8th. Although this thread is 'hypothetical' I just hope people don't get carried away and expect us qualify for the CL and start thinking about what our group could look like. Personally, I'd rather leave these types of threads until it's guaranteed - but that's just me cos I don't like tempting fate...
