st albans fox Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 How long have you been supporting our club? whatever the answer, this season represents the best chance for the club to try and establish itself as a top four outfit. you can only do this by finishing in the top four to begin with and we will never get a better chance than the next few months. We have a 7 point start. So the board have a chance to change the history of the club. Do they grasp it this window or do they bottle it? Ulloa as an example just isn't good enough for us if we have designs on the top four. of course he did a brilliant job last season but shouldn't we move onwards and upwards? similarly, kingy has been a great servant for many years. But a top four side needs better quality unless he is prepared to just sit around and be a league/FA cup fill in. Huth has been a tower of strength but a top four team needs a centre half who is comfortable on the ball, not one who treats it like a grenade without a pin in it. And Simpson has proved to be a good defensive full back but we need someone who can be good defensively and offer an attacking prowess. There are many others who will not cut it if we are to become a regular fixture towards the top of this league and be competitive in the CL. So do we go for it or do we enjoy what we have achieved and be happy to become a settled mid table PL outfit? btw, it's about 45 years since I first attended a game. would I like to try and win the PL? You bet I would. Been through enough cr@p to deserve it, as have you all.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 I wouldn't mess too much with the back four. They're actually looking organised. We've played more defensively in a few games recently but I think that's just been down to the quality of opposition. We've proven we can attack well despite the defensive full backs. The second striker is the big one for me. We absolutely have to go for it. I know fans always think new signings will be perfect and it's not always the case but even a hard-working player who never scores wouldn't be a downgrade at the moment. I'd hate to think we'll be sitting here in April in 7th place with Ulloa and Okazaki on four goals each for the season. We know the money is there. Let's gamble.
fuchsntf Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 We have just tipped the scales in our favour, we have had a good 9 months, thats all. An old saying, 'Be careful what you wish for'. Too many trying to speed up our success, by forgetting what our strengths have been so far. We wont be being going over the top, imitating Man.City or Chelsea. Lets enjoy the moment, see how far the Management want to lean out the window.

I just think that several things have come together that may never be repeated (neither Chelsea or Man U will be this bad again) and not grasping the nettle will mean we will never again get this chance. if we buy a very good player and we don't get to where we want to be then surely we will be able to sell him without losing too much money? Of course, the owners may well be content to be a solid mid table PL side. Guess the next few weeks will reveal that.
AndWhat? Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 **** off Andy King will lift the Champions League trophy for Leicester.

Lets enjoy the moment, see how far the Management want to lean out the window. We must be careful not to run before we can walk. Obviously It would be great to win the league though and I wouldn't want us for one moment to lose that opportunity! If we did finish top four we will have a lot of extra matches and pressure next season. Ranieri said after the Liverpool game the way we play is tiring the players and the squad is already looking tired after just 18/20 matches. We'd need a significant amount spent to get a squad capable of fighting on four fronts. This will bring in a different team spirit, different ethics, egos, huge wage differences, different skills and different tactics. It could cause many problems to our set up. In life you have to set targets, and aim high, but you must also have realism.
st albans fox Posted 3 January 2016 Author Posted 3 January 2016 Ah - fu£k it then. At least we stayed up.
fuchsntf Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Of course, the owners may well be content to be a solid mid table PL side. Guess the next few weeks will reveal that. So you can shout failure, blame all and sundry, when we end up a solid mid- tabe side. I for one would take that.!!! The clubs Everton, Spurs, Southampton, Stoke Newcastle, and a few more, pop their heads over the parapit. I for one would be happy and a proud fan, if we can hold ourselves with the modern, Everton, Stoke or even Spurs. OUR dreams have been lifted this season, as much as I dont enjoy the doubts of the media or pundits, But also some of our fans looking too far in the future, not the dreams, not the aiming high, but posts that assume, there is only one way, and curse the club if they dont follow suggestions. Sort of setting up the club for criticism, if they dont follow, the posters idea of expansive thinking. Be a fan enjoy now, dream if you like, but stating or putting out ultimatums and suggestions above our immediate station, is not banter, but plain silly, because the club thankfully doesnt read foxforum, then plan their transfers and future plans on post of the month ideas..
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 **** off Andy King will lift the Champions League trophy for Leicester. After bagging from 25 yards in the 119th minute.
Dan Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 Keep being clever. Don't feel the need to splash loads on someone who doesn't fit the team ethic. If you see a chance to improve, then take it, it's that simple.
NewquayFox Posted 3 January 2016 Posted 3 January 2016 What we have achieved this season already is fantastic, our owners know we will need to strengthen as we are picking up injuries now and I think Ranieri will buy 2 or 3 established players this month..... Up the City....

Other clubs are ambitious too and will also have learned something from our approach. When opportunity knocks grasp it or it'll be gone.

I'd imagine all that would be planned out by now and something I imagine our backroom people - including Walsh and Rudkin - will be pretty good at. .
dorsetboy Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 personally i think huth has been great and if it was not for him we wouldnt even be in the position we are in as he turned us around at the back end of last season . you say we need players comfortable on the ball , players like cahill, koscienley, stones and otamendi all i have seen from these kind of players is mistakes that lead to goals for the opposing team how many mistakes have our defend and whack it guys (morgan, huth, was,) made this season ? id rather have a centreback who is their to stop goals going in by any means doing that and not trying to do flip flaps on his own penalty spot and try to spray 50 yard hoddle style passes which go for a throw in
yorkie1999 Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 At least the owner and the manager are older than me so, if they want to win the league with this club, chances are I'll get to see it.....
TheLittleBigMan Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Carry on doing what we're doing. It's working right? I would like to see us take advantage of our current situation and while we can attract higher calibre players we should be looking to do it, but let's not get ahead of ourselves and risk destabilizing what has taken us since our days in league one to build. Up the foxes.
MattyFromLE Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Keep being clever. Don't feel the need to splash loads on someone who doesn't fit the team ethic. If you see a chance to improve, then take it, it's that simple. Agree 100% with this. Whilst I would love to see Leicester win the league, I do think the long term plan should be stability. Look what happened to Portsmouth, spent loads of money, won the FA Cup 2008, in League Two in 2016.

Dribbling with the ball in his own penalty area! Value- 50M+ . Crazy price and where are Everton?

This has been said before- the chances of us getting anywhere near the top 4 again in the foreseeable future are remote. We have to go for it NOW (or never).Buy 3 quality players, preferably young. If things don't work out, we sell for a profit.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 I'm not buying this 'its now or never' stuff. Yes, we are in a fantastic position for a high finish, but radical makeovers in Jan are rarely successful. Big changes to a squad that have just performed miracles doesn't seem very just. A couple of players would be good, but it is so easy to go a touch 'Mr Creosote' with players. In FM I would be going really, really well, and just get in a slightly unwarranted bonus buy/bargain, and everything would fall to pieces! I do appreciate that Claudio would be better at this kind of thing than me though. Good thread, hopefully the staff will have had these kind of conversations in recent times.

If you see a chance to improve, then take it, it's that simple. Exactly this, or as Claudio says "slowly, slowly". Because our position in the table is ahead of where we realistically should have been at this point, the danger is we try to accelerate our development and risk destroying everything that's good about this team.
HighPeakFox Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 So, this does rather beg the question.....are we the second best team in the league, or do we have the second best set of results? I think a lot of us will be disappointed come the end of the season because of our early achievements this year. The point made about Portsmouth is quite chilling........much as I'd love to see some new blood (to give others a rest as much as anything), doing things gradually has to be the right way. I understand the line of argument that says 'we'll never have a better chance than this' fully, but I also understand that that it ain't necessarily so.
