Webbo Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Anyone remember watching Eurosport at about 9.45 for the Atletico game? I had to be on best behaviour to stay up that late I was on holiday in Paignton and the Hotelier was a Leicester fan too. He set it up for us.
Channies6thswan Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 I went to both. Remember getting to East Midlands airport about 6 o'clock on the morning of the Madrid game & hundreds of city fans wearing their colours. The plane taking Off followed by a chorus of 'we are going up'. Being amazed at how many city fans were in the ground. Ian Marshall with his mullet scoring. The home leg. Juninho the maestro. Muzzy being scythed down in the area three times with the ref waving play on. Gary Parker being sent off for taking a free kick before the ref blew his whistle. I think the club made an official complaint about the ref and he didn't ref another European game but we were out. Red star - remember arriving at vienna airport & someone spotted erland Johnson (the Chelsea 'diver') all suited and booted with his new team mates. Loads of abuse & spitting - very unpleasant. Spent the day drinking in a pub full of city fans - loads of flags outside. Tv cameras filming us drinking & singing. Great atmosphere. on the tube train with a load of boys not showing their colours. The next carriage was full of Red star. For 2 stops it was strangely quiet but at the third all hell let loose. Bit of an ugly atmosphere walking up to the ground. Can't remember much about the game other than most people seemed more interested in the other fans than the game itself which was a bit boring. Think we were well beaten in the home leg. Their supporters were as loud as anyone I saw in the east stand & loads of red flares. Like the poster above I got wife & kids now so going away will be tough. But the memories I have of our European adventures are fantastic.

How many of us in the ground do you reckon? I've heard between 4,000 - 5,000 but it felt like a lot more at the time. Not sure if there's ever been an official figure but I'd love to know. We were fvckin everywhere that day it seemed...
Channies6thswan Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 I seem to remember we sold our official allocation of 4,000 but loads went without tickets. Remember a section in the main stand opposite our end with loads of Leicester in it. Great memories.

Remember a section in the main stand opposite our end with loads of Leicester in it. Great memories. Yeah indeed. Just wish I could remember more about the whole occasion. Started drinking at the airport at 6am on the day and didn't really stop until we got back home. It as great being in pen 3 for the few home games straight after when everyone was singing "if you all went Madrid, all went Madrid, clap your hands" - felt really proud to have been there.
Steven Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 I remember them putting some typical Spanish style music on over the tannoy after the home tie against Atletico and everyone started booing and they quickly switched it off. No one was in the mood for that music after that farcical game. I think it was the Los Lobos version of La Bamba.
dbtcity Posted 15 January 2016 Author Posted 15 January 2016 Some of these stories are exactly what I wanted to hear starting the topic, I get excited for what the future holds just reading them.....I just hope the wife takes pitty when the time comes and sends me off on a European tour
bovril Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 I went to both home ties. We were genuinely better than Atletico Madrid over two legs but we were cheated out of it of course, their superior fitness told after we were reduced to ten men. I don't think anybody is under any illusions that the match was bought. The atmosphere was cracking, but it was the most disappointed I had been at that age. The Red Star game was played during a fuel shortage, wasn't it? My Dad got absolutely bollocked for driving us to Leicester from Kings Lynn as my sister had to go back to Uni the next day. Again, we missed a shit load of chances in both legs but ultimately Red Star were the better side. With a fully fit Collymore and O'Neill in charge I reckon we would've got past them. I can't remember the atmosphere being too scary at Filbo but obviously I've heard the horror stories from Vienna. I've met a few Crvena Svezda fans in Serbia and they are very remorseful about the whole incident, obviously the country was on the brink of collapse and ultra-nationalist groups were really prominent at football, they still are to a certain extent but it's getting better. If we get Europa League we should still make a fist of it. It rankles somewhat that we've never got past the 2nd round while clubs like Bolton, Fulham and Middlesbrough have enjoyed long runs in European competitions.
VLC86 Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 Memories of Madrid away are getting hazier by the year, but it's still right up their in my best experiences of 35 years following Leicester. We only went for one night and eight of us flew out early on the day of the game. In my mid twenties back then so no responsibilities and didn't even take my phone. Just a tooth brush and passport in my back pockets, and money and fags in my front pockets. Spent all day in the main square getting pissed, great atmosphere and no trouble really. Things started getting a bit edgy on the way to the game but I remember Real Madrid fans cheering us on our way and hoping we turned Athletico over. The feeling in the ground up in the gods with the blue army was amazing, but I can't remember much about the match apart from going ahead early on which was just mental. Afterwards it kicked off with police treating us really badly but we managed to get out unscathed and back into town on the piss. Ended up in a nightclub and eventually all 8 of us ended up crashing in one hotel room because most of the lads forgot where they were staying cos they were so drunk. Four on the bed, three on the floor and one in the bath - I remember that for some reason but it sounds a bit gay typing it out Flew back the next day tired, skint, smelly and hungover but what a trip. Happy days. Now older and with a wife, two kids, health restrictions and living away, I doubt I'll make any away trips if/when we ever qualify for Europe again. But I had my time and I loved every minute of it. Sounds class mate. I only got to the home matches as I was about 11/12 but without doubt if we make it I will go to a few of not all the away matches. Just really hope we keep it up and actually get into Europe.
simon789us Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 Just some nerd stuff about being in Europe. As someone said the first leg of the Atletico Madrid game was on Eurosport, Archie McPherson and Gordon Banks were the commentators that night. The second leg wasn't broadcast live, but ITV did show highlights with Peter Brackley and Jimmy Greaves in attendance. The only copy I have ever found of that game was a Spanish version from the TV station Antena 3 Red Star Belgrade, the second leg was on Channel 5, remember watching that as a 10 year old! The first leg here was shown on PPV channel U>Direct. Think it cost something like £8 from looking around but it was supposed to part of their big foray into sports broadcasting. I do remember a grainy repeat being on a half-signal for MATV though. Of course getting into Europe would mean we were on BT Sport whatever. The thought of Savage commentating on our European games is a slight dampener! I'd love to hear anyone's detailed account of the nightmare Madrid journey organised by the club. Didn't they offer some absolutely terrible compensation to make up for the experience they'd put people through?[/quote Was on one of those coaches 36 hour drive when we eventuality got there we were kept in a service station out side of Madrid for a few hours by the old bill got to the ground about 1 hour before kick off watched the game then back on the bus for the 36 hour drive home was absolutely brilliant experience all city fans playing football on a car park at a service station somewhere in France even had banter with the city fans that had flew to the game happy days
baldeagle Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 I went to the Red Star home game and the only ticket I could get was in the double decker . I can remember when they first set all the flares of we couldn't see the flares just the smoke pouring through the roof of the stand. Becasue we were above it just looked like it was on fire

That sounds like my idea of hell!

fuchsntf Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 YOU ALL DO REALISE.... Something to think about, if Leicester ended this season in the top 3. They will break their European record...With the table games it would mean they would spend their longest time in a Euro championship competition in their History. We are breaking records, what a great one for next season.

Soar Fox Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 Based on the teams that normally make the champions league groups who would people want. I'd like the following group Barcelona Porto Lyon Dinamo Zagreb
los dedos Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 Were you allowed to drink on those coaches? That sounds like my idea of hell! No.Whole thing was a shambles.15 coaches all arriving at services along the way at the same time so really hard to get any food.Mean while everyone flying on planes organised by the club were made to get off in the cargo area. Then have a police escort straight to the ground. But if you flew independently(Baby squad lads did)You got left alone to have a lovely day in Madrid.
Izzy Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 But if you flew independently(Baby squad lads did)You got left alone to have a lovely day in Madrid. And it was one of the all time great lovely days in Madrid. So glad we didn't have to endure the nightmare coach trip like some did. We got lucky I guess...
