European Tour

Just thought I'd start a topic to remanisce on our previous European adventures and memories, with every chance we could have more stories to be had next season I thought it would be good,

my main memory that will always stick with me was walking down to filbert street and seeing all the red star fans being escorted to the ground by the police and all I could see was a sea of red flares, as a kid it was probably the most intimidating atmosphere I've ever been around from a bunch of away supporters

Only European game I've ever been to (for Leicester). Couldn't work out what was happening with all the smoke at that age lol

Apparently Vienna for the Red Star away match was flat out scary, though I've not heard this corroborated.

Still remember Jonathan Pearce going nuts when Izzet equalised for us and thought we might squeak through.

Only really remember the Red Star Belgrade home game and their player smashing from distance through the smoke and Tim Flowers. Based on our previous luck with draws we'd end up with the worst seeds possible.

Pretty much the only thing I remember of us in Europe was staying up past my bedtime listening to the radio and crying when Atletico Madrid scored that penalty. I was nine, just about broke my heart.

Yeah Tim Flowers didn't have a clue what was happening either.

It'd be a dream to watch City in Europe, I was thinking of the allocations we'll get, and all the flags, the atmosphere etc. It would be amazing. Important to stay focused and to take each game as it comes of course but I can't help but get excited of what could be to come.

Just some nerd stuff about being in Europe. As someone said the first leg of the Atletico Madrid game was on Eurosport, Archie McPherson and Gordon Banks were the commentators that night. The second leg wasn't broadcast live, but ITV did show highlights with Peter Brackley and Jimmy Greaves in attendance. The only copy I have ever found of that game was a Spanish version from the TV station Antena 3

Red Star Belgrade, the second leg was on Channel 5, remember watching that as a 10 year old! The first leg here was shown on PPV channel U>Direct. Think it cost something like £8 from looking around but it was supposed to part of their big foray into sports broadcasting. I do remember a grainy repeat being on a half-signal for MATV though.

Of course getting into Europe would mean we were on BT Sport whatever. The thought of Savage commentating on our European games is a slight dampener!

I'd love to hear anyone's detailed account of the nightmare Madrid journey organised by the club. Didn't they offer some absolutely terrible compensation to make up for the experience they'd put people through?

I remember them putting some typical Spanish style music on over the tannoy after the home tie against Atletico and everyone started booing and they quickly switched it off.

No one was in the mood for that music after that farcical game.

Went Madrid for a week!

Went with a company called premier sports, quality well organised trip . Great memories, even getting Baton charged by local police on the road to the stadium. Had to buy a Madrid scarf to blend lol

Vienna away was scary , main memories being 10k Serbians signing "fcuk u Leicester fcuk u" clap clap.

Flares, fire works smoke bombs seen them all in Vienna . Glad was only there for the three days ....

Athletic Madrid at home

Madrid had spent crazy money that year we was unlucky to draw them . Robbed. (enough said)

Red star at home . Smoke bomb just before k.o .

Them scoring early from distance through the smoke. Equilized? Dull game...

Cannot remember correctly if we drew the highest ranked teams both times? So if we do (dare I say it) get Europe we'll be in a group of death!! Ha ha

Memories of Madrid away are getting hazier by the year, but it's still right up their in my best experiences of 35 years following Leicester.

We only went for one night and eight of us flew out early on the day of the game. In my mid twenties back then so no responsibilities and didn't even take my phone. Just a tooth brush and passport in my back pockets, and money and fags in my front pockets.

Spent all day in the main square getting pissed, great atmosphere and no trouble really. Things started getting a bit edgy on the way to the game but I remember Real Madrid fans cheering us on our way and hoping we turned Athletico over. The feeling in the ground up in the gods with the blue army was amazing, but I can't remember much about the match apart from going ahead early on which was just mental.

Afterwards it kicked off with police treating us really badly but we managed to get out unscathed and back into town on the piss. Ended up in a nightclub and eventually all 8 of us ended up crashing in one hotel room because most of the lads forgot where they were staying cos they were so drunk. Four on the bed, three on the floor and one in the bath - I remember that for some reason but it sounds a bit gay typing it out lol

Flew back the next day tired, skint, smelly and hungover but what a trip. Happy days.

Now older and with a wife, two kids, health restrictions and living away, I doubt I'll make any away trips if/when we ever qualify for Europe again.

But I had my time and I loved every minute of it.

Parker getting sent off for taking a quick free kick is about all I remember from the athletico Madrid game

I remember someone saying that it wasn't the hand of God but the backhander from Jesus (Gil) that did it for Atletico - ref was continually awful I seem to remember.
