spursy Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Do you honestly expect us to just drop off next season? Aren't you the chap who was just having a go at someone for being disrespectful about spurs fans being morons? Do you understand the term "irony"? I'm sorry mate, but me thinking that your team will not be as successful next season compared to someone calling an entire group of fans morons is not the same thing. And yes, I do expect you to drop off next season: you will have Europe, you will not be afforded the opportunity to play the same team every week, the probability is you will not be as injury-free as this season, and you will no longer be a surprise team: teams will play you very differently than they did this season. As I said in an earlier post, if you repeat this year's feat next year, then super kudos to you.
weller54 Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 I wouldn't be so much. We're poised to mount a title challenge for the foreseeable future. For Leicester it's truly a once-in-three-lifetimes chance. I wouldn't mind them winning it this year. We'll get the next two. So far up their own backsides! FOAD!!!
The Doctor Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 You will this summer. Can't see Schwarzer shifting for that much tbh - guys about ready for the retirement home. Likewise Inler after being bought for less than that and not working out.
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Will Spurs fans be celebrating at all if they win? They've all been telling us this is the worst ever prem season in terms of quality and the only we are winning it is because everyone else is shite. Presumably it will feel like winning the JPT for them.
Lionheart10 Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Spurs are the best team i've seen this season but it isn't always the best team that wins!
Bournemouth Blue Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Think it's brilliant that Spurs are singing about hunting us down. What a great end to a football season and we'd be singing the same. My brother in law is a spurs season ticket holder and most of his mates would love us to win the league if it isn't them. And imagine how you would feel if your arch rivals had finished above you for decades..!
ARM1968 Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 As long as they catch us at some point next season I'll be happy.
weller54 Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Spurs are the best team i've seen this season but it isn't always the best team that wins! Off whom we took 4pts.. Not that good are they?
HighPeakFox Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Off whom we took 4pts.. Not that good are they? Arsenal took 6 off us...........not that good are we? Come on everyone, change the record
weller54 Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Arsenal took 6 off us...........not that good are we? Come on everyone, change the record Hell will freeze over before you get any praise for Spuds from me! Horrible, arrogant club with horrible, arrogant supporters!
CFCFAN1 Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Welcome to what we had last season. We completely dominated the league last season from start to finish and we constantly had City, Arsenal and Spurs fans bemoaning our style of play. You're top because you deserve to be top and with far less resources.

We completely dominated the league last season from start to finish and we constantly had City, Arsenal and Spurs fans bemoaning our style of play. You're top because you deserve to be top and with far less resources. To be fair, your xG for and against were the best in the league, so it was deserved. In the end, you were the better team overall and the stats, not just the points, proved it out.

In the end, you were the better team overall and the stats, not just the points, proved it out. I just think the simple fact is, if you're top at the end of the year then you deserve to win the league. Table doesn't lie! I would prefer Leicester but if Tottenham do win it then they deserve it.
Leicester_Numan Posted 21 April 2016 Posted 21 April 2016 They're fans. Fans say anything and everything. Don't tell me you don't have knee-jerk fans who talk rubbish on social media? With all due respect you have plenty on this thread alone. Problem is, there is also a national media based in London who picked up on these tweets and the next thing you know, Kevin Friend is being mentioned in every paper, on every radio station, on every tv station as a Leicester fan, which he isn't, and his impartiality and integrity called into question. Social media may be full of idiots but it's a very powerful thing when the media seems to be picking up on Spurs conspiracy crap and using it against us. Spurs fans say we're doping, the Times runs an unsubstantiated doping story. They accuse us of match fixing and ref conspiracies and refs get changed. They whine we keep getting the benefit of decisions going in our favour and we get a ref who on his previous involvement in Leicester games has made some of the strangest decisions against us I've ever seen and proceeded to do so again. I could go on but it's 2.15 and I'm tired but I'll just say those fans may only be fans but they have the Spurs supporting media backing them up and warping opinions further. We don't have that and to be honest, I'm not sure I'd even want it. Dirty tricks is not the way to win the league imo.
limeydale Posted 21 April 2016 Posted 21 April 2016 Just so you know I also happen to be Greek and was over the moon when we won the Euro, so I know what it's like to be in your position. However, although I could claim we were well organized and disciplined and lucky, one thing I couldn't say with a straight face is that we were the better footballing side in that tournament. But if you believe you are a better footballing side, then I'm sure you will put all this to bed by mounting another title challenge next season and proving all the doubters wrong. Yo! Dude! This competition is for this year and this year WE are the better footballing team. I can count on one hand the reasons why.
Babylon Posted 21 April 2016 Posted 21 April 2016 To be fair, your xG for and against were the best in the league, so it was deserved. In the end, you were the better team overall and the stats, not just the points, proved it out. The for and against stuff means nothing really, and cannot be used as a solid indicator of quality. One awful day at the office (hello Arsenal at home) and suddenly it makes a large difference. Similarly hammering a couple of teams who were garbage against you does.Is the team that hammers 3 teams 4-0 and draws 0-0 with another 3, better than the team that beat all six of them 2-1?What matters is where you finish, if you fall below someone else it's because you didn't have as many answers to other teams as they did. Same goes for whether it's Leicester or Spurs who finish top.
HighPeakFox Posted 21 April 2016 Posted 21 April 2016 Hell will freeze over before you get any praise for Spuds from me! Horrible, arrogant club with horrible, arrogant supporters! Fine. I was just pointing out the inconsistency/nebulosity of your argument
Guest ttfn Posted 21 April 2016 Posted 21 April 2016 Let's not decide future league titles on old fashioned things like "Wins" or "points". Let's go with an expected goals model. Living the dream.
Shelf Side Spurs Posted 21 April 2016 Posted 21 April 2016 I thought that we were mostly having a grown up and enjoyable conversation about the season, the title race and the relative merits of our two clubs....it appears that according to a few posts, it's all gone a bit pear shaped, not sure why? For the avoidance of any doubt, I'm in the most points wins the league deservedly camp...almost regardless of how they are earned. Last season Chelsea played what might be described as flair and entertaining football for the first half of the season until we beat them 5-3 on New Years Day. At that point Mourinho reverted to type and battened down the hatches to prevent teams scoring and Chelsea went on to win the league convincingly....didn't matter how they did it, they won the title on merit. Leicester have done sort of a similar thing this year and similarly will deserve to win if that comes to pass. Our 'entertaining football' is all very well and recently fantastic to watch, but it doesn't always win matches and titles and as some of you have pointed out that's what goes down in the history books and what people remember. So I'm wondering why a few of you have got a little defensive? Is it that you're now worried by last weekends events and that conspiracy theories abound? Surely you don't need to start thinking that you're reliant simply on Vardy for goals, or for Chelsea and that cock John Terry to do you a favour? Not sure he's even fit and playing at present is he....? You're good enough to do this on your own I would have thought....it's highly unlikely that we are going to win all four of our remaining matches, possible but unlikely....Sure I'd be nervous if the boot were on the other foot, but nervous about winning not about being caught. If you have a cast around you'll find several Spurs forums other than the fighting cock. Some even have reasonable sensible posters on them, mostly like this one.

I think what mostly got peoples goat was that many Spurs fans that we came across refused to admit we've played a few different ways this year. I don't think any of us would deny we've gone more defensive since say the Man city game. Due to it finally dawning on us that we had something to hold on to, as well as people using different tactics against us. Even before that we'd put in some very defensive performances, against you and even United at ours stick out. But, we have to play like that against teams with a higher quality of player. Your centre backs and your midfield cost a pretty penny and as you'd expect come with the qualities that money buys you, this enables you to play it around a bit more. If we rocked up at your place and tried to take you on at your own game, we'd most probably fail. We learned our lesson early against Arsenal, where we tried to attack all the time and got ripped apart. This team was built for survival and not a title challenge, if we tried to knock it about every game we'd probably be about 10th. People moaning about our style (which as you admit has changed throughout the season) just seems crazy to me. Leicester.... LEICESTER are top of the league 5 points clear with a starting 11 that cost under £22m. It's ridiculous, utterly mental, even if we hadn't been top scorers in the league for a huge chunk of the season and were defensive every game (which hasn't been the case), it still seems pathetic to try and pick faults in what has been achieved (not aiming at you, but other fans and dick heads like Souness) People shouldn't expect us to play like Barca, we should be expected to play like a team that cost sod all. We're under no obligation to entertain anyone out side of Leicester... and we're deliriously entertained. If people are ashamed that we might win the league, then everyone needs to look at their own teams issues, don't slate us for it.

Can't disagree with any of that.....the money thing is all relative, which is why I've said before that your achievement is greater than ours....which in turn would be greater than a City or Chelsea winning the league. Whilst it is a bit awkward and it's not meant to be condescending I'll be absolutely delighted along with most others if Leicester win the league, assuming we don't of course.
Alf Bentley Posted 21 April 2016 Posted 21 April 2016 An excellent stating of the case, Babs. Though, to be fair, I think Shelf Side Spurs gets it and his comments are mostly very fair. The problem is that a few people on here are paying too much heed to a few idiots on that Spurs forum - probably immature fans with a shallow understanding of football. As for relying on Terry to do us a favour, I think comments about that were largely humour/fantasy, not serious. Obviously, losing Vardy for a game or two is a bit of a concern - as losing Kane would be for Spurs. But we should still have enough to get the points required. If we don't and Spurs win the title, that will be because they've been the better team over 38 games and they'll deserve it. For now, we're the better team over 34 games and deserve to be top. Spurs are on the rise and have had a great season, regardless of the final outcome. We've had a positively miraculous season, regardless of the final outcome. Roll on Sunday!
Babylon Posted 21 April 2016 Posted 21 April 2016 Though, to be fair, I think Shelf Side Spurs gets it and his comments are mostly very fair. No absolutely, wasn't meant to be attacking him in any way. As you said, was just trying to state our case in general.
Gerard Posted 21 April 2016 Posted 21 April 2016 Spurs fans piss in the cubicle. ...............and leave the seat up and piss all over that as well and don't wipe it down.
