KingsX Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 I thought about piping up on one of the other threads, and am going to put in my two plastic pence. I doubt I am part of a bow wave of bandwagon-jumping Americans, at least in the Midwest. When I wear a shirt or mention the team, 98% of folks draw a blank. Those who follow soccer closely, already have their teams. A few like me who stopped liking English football after it became a “fixed” dress rehearsal for CL were fair game. By purest chance, I latched onto the best possible club in the best possible year. I started last summer, keen on getting a shirt because it looked cool and had my name on the front and back (in the case of a certain homegrown midfielder). Went on to a mild obsession = from lurking this board, to scheduling weekends around the NBC broadcast, to buying a used copy of a Club history to get a clue. But don’t confuse the likes of me with infiltrators of the “tribe”. I don’t know the history, never went to Division One away games. You will always have the tribe to yourselves. The team is another matter, and should indeed be the more the merrier. That said, good on the tribe, because you are almost all so decent (maybe unique among sports boards). And if we ever make it to Leicester, I will seek you out. BOTTOM LINE!! This season has been SO. FREAKIN. GREAT. that even 10 or 20% of whatever YOU felt, wherever you were Saturday, is still great. Even tears-inducing.
topharry123 Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 It doesn't bother me too much to be honest. More fans = more revenue for the club which means we can continue to strengthen our squad and hopefully remain a force next season and beyond. This group of players won't stay together forever so we need to think more about how we are going to replace them. We're not going to buy cheap players and turn them into superstars indefinitely; soon we need to spend the cash to remain competitive. More fans allows us to do that. If they're "plastic" fans, so be it let them pump money into our club and allow us to coninue on this path.
goose2010 Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 Making business analogies is all well and good but it's not quite teh same thing. If Liverpool win the league next year they'll be draping Liverpool flags outside their window. It's all well and good if they are here to stay but I bet if that did happen you'd see all red draped outside their house. Is that really something you'd embrace? You're entitled to your opinions of course... And so are they if they choose to watch football in a different like to the norm who cares. I for one cant see the problem and it wouldn't bother me if someone changes team its their choice. I love the whole global recognition we are getting even if 10% of our new fan base stick around then that would increase the revenue of the club over the next ten years.
General Smuts Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 http://www.stephen-webster.co.uk Ask for Karl. I hear he's got a massive knob.
lgfualol Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 Dont mind, extra support and people are happy. I prefer them to the leicester high-horsers that can't let others enjoy it because they didn't drape their house in blue when we were 8th in the Championship that I keep seeing.
Larry_LCFC Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 I do think it is more the merrier to some extent. I just find it frustrating more than anything that I've been able to buy a shirt, scarf etc on the release day for the last 10 years, but suddenly I cant because of all the new "fans". Something I'll have to get used to with our success, but its still annoying. It will be interesting to see how many of our new found fans stick around if we go back into mid-low table obscurity next season.
StanSP Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 A dog's for life not just for Christmas let them start now then. the bigger gripe will be whenever we have our bad spell and then they suddenly turn back to a bigger club. If you're gonna start being a fan of Leicester now, and this goes for anyone, you have to stick through the bad times whenever they come around. You can do one if you're only here for the good times.

Well said. That's my feelings and the point I was trying to get across I just couldn't put it as well.
Bazly Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 If people are on the hunt for Plastic fans it'll be kind of hard to weed them out, maybe the ones that turn up in Red and White next year? Possibly have to check peoples birth certificates to ensure that has Leicester General stamped on it. In many ways the more fans the better, it doesn't matter if its someone buying merchandise in New York or from the LC club shop, it all helps to fund the club. The more fans the more the sponsors will pay. It all helps fund the club. So every plastic should be welcomed. You can always spot a real fan though, anyone who shed a tear on Saturday.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 We are having our best ever season. People look for reasons to moan about something. That's Leicester for you!
Carl the Llama Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 http://www.stephen-webster.co.uk Ask for Karl. I hear he's got a massive knob. Pretty sure you heard wrong. More likely they were saying I am a massive knob. Oh you meant someone else. Nevermind.
Guest Manini Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 I gotta say i do not like seeing people who are clearly jumping on the band wagon, you can just tell who they are, I bet theyve never heard of Kerrea Gilbert. They're lucky they haven't!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 What a bloody stupid and moronic thread! We've had them before, and they are played out. Some people need to get a life. We have shocked the sporting world, and should be celebrating, and not complaining.
bluebeau Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 When you drive past someone's house who have never supported leicester before but now their house is draped in leicester flags. Thoughts? Really irks me tbh, I shouldn't let it but it does, especially when they supported Liverpool before :E :\ #Bandwagon #Plastic Try not to worry too much because in the unlikely event that the guys struggle next season, the 'plastics' will go back to the Chelsea's, Man. Utd's etc.

We have shocked the sporting world, and should be celebrating, and not complaining. Clearly never grown up in Leicester surrounded by Liverpool and Manu fans taking the piss out of Leicester City during the 90s etc. same twats who will now be singing dilly ding dilly dong till they lose their voice. All for the increased business revenue, doesn't mean I'll go out and start hugging them though. I am celebrating for the club, the players, management, myself, and for proper Leicester fans, and I couldn't be happier.
