We have a chance albeit a small one to force our way on to the top table and we'd only manage that with sustained success. Do you think Vardy and Mahrez were happy to sign their new contracts on the vision of us finishing 8th next season? At least have some ambition for the team that won the title by 10pts next season just to be happy to make the numbers up and not have a relegation battle. I agree. It's clear that a title-winning side shouldn't be making a profit on their subsequent dealings (which we are as it stands). It's also clear, not only from the friendlies but from what we knew anyway (that Mendy isn't Kante, and if we wish to play the same way as last season we need to have a serious stab at replacing him; that we depend on Vardy and Mahrez too much for goals, that new signings take time to bed in etc.) that some work needs to be done. But equally it would be wrong to assume that we won't do what's needed. And it's certainly not worth reading into results like this, especially not in isolation.

Your claim has as much truth as the 'I've just seen Alex Witsel in Morrisons' rumour!

Guest Mee-9 Posted 31 July 2016 Posted 31 July 2016 We've had it lets face it. Lump on relegation this season people.
Tom's Pasta Posted 31 July 2016 Posted 31 July 2016 I personally think we need another centre forward and a bit more steel in the middle of the park to fine tune the team but am not concerned about the psg game too much. Waiting for our flight back hence the boredom, I'm saying no more.
UPinCarolina Posted 31 July 2016 Posted 31 July 2016 Might be the right time to put some money down on PSG. They looked dominant.
josh_baskin Posted 31 July 2016 Posted 31 July 2016 Ridiculous and unrealistic scenario but I'd take relegation from the premier league if it meant winning the champions league.

On a positive note we caused PSG a few problems. We have a lot to do in a short space of time! Can we do it? Yep you're right we're shit, might as well bow out of this season altogether to save you further embarrassment. In fact with you're attitude you should give up on supporting Leicester altogether and find another team worthy of your support, you'd fit right in at arse or spurs I'm sure they'd be only too happy to accept an ex-Foxes fan who's seen the error of his ways into their fold.
ANDLeicester Posted 31 July 2016 Posted 31 July 2016 Last year in preseason we drew against Mansfield Town, now our preseason includes matches against Celtic, Barcelona, PSG and Manchester United. We had an incredible season last year and it has changed so much about our club and the expectations that surround it in a very short space of time. PSG, like most of Europe's elite teams, have spent hundreds of millions over many years to get to this stage and we can't expect to be competing against them (at least not yet anyway). Yesterday we did not play as if it was a competitive match, the lack of tackles has already been highlighted, and that played to PSG's strengths rather than ours. So before we resign ourselves to relegation remember that we are Leicester City, and we are Champions of the Premier League.

We lost to Northampton when we won the Championship, we struggled a Lincoln when we won the league last year. Having watched football for several years you ought to know by now that friendlies, for many reasons, should not be used to judge how the upcoming season will go. And Fuchs was shocking that night!

The club made some money, the players ate some hamburgers and nobody was bitten by a shark. That's the best anyone could hope for.

Chilwell also didn't look out of his depth, though could have stopped their second. Amartey generally very good. 2 of our best chances fell to him. Both were just a yard off spectacular. Mendys and Musa the jury is out. Gray looked sharp. He and Mahrez will get us goals. Drinky looked good too. The rest of the team looked jaded and off the pace. Two weeks to go, two more games to get it right and Hull are no PSG! You might want to look at the 1st half again. You're right he wasn't out of his depth. He didnt get in the same pool as PSG. He was out of position for the 1st 2 goals and spent most of the game chasing back. That said, that's what friendlies are for, to work out who/what/where. I'm sure he'll learn from this. Mahrez worries me. He never seems the "travel" well. He looked out of sorts today and he always takes a game or two to get back into the swing of things after playing for Algeria.

weller54 Posted 31 July 2016 Posted 31 July 2016 Our squad needs a sprinkling of a little cabbage to brighten us up!
southfox66 Posted 31 July 2016 Posted 31 July 2016 Last season was exceptional I think we should be realistic this season, enjoy the champions league experience but the target has to be still playing premier football next season, I think if you expecting us to be up there with the big boys again, I think you might be disappointed

Too much money with some of them... I'm sorry that's no excuse. And when you went back to work after 2 months off you wouldn't be in full work mode either, it'd take you 2,3,4 days to get back in the swing of things.

I am curious what it is 'we knew' about Mendy prior to seeing him in only just 2 pre season friendlies? He's not Kante, nor am I or you yet, you appear to be writing him off as you state we need to find a Kante replacement. I feel you are, like far too many on here, being too quick to jump to conclusions/ judgements. I fully appreciate it's your opinion and I know you like to debate and critique, my critique of your post is I feel you are being incredibly premature despite the "especially not in isolation" comment at the end. I would suggest 3 to 5 games into the season would give us a fairer idea, and don't forget the wonderful Kante didn't even start at the he beginning of last season.
Manwell Pablo Posted 31 July 2016 Posted 31 July 2016 while it is just a friendly there are a few things that did catch my eye, primarily psg played exactly how I'm expecting teams in the CL to play against us, at a walking pace at times calm and collective with their possession and picked their moments. Our game suits the break neck pace of English football. I have been worried about playing those with a far more patient build up ever since we qualified. secondly worried about certain members of the squad not getting enough game and others getting too much. But it is just a friendly, if it's treated as a learning experience can be a positive thing I guess.

I would suggest 3 to 5 games into the season would give us a fairer idea, and don't forget the wonderful Kante didn't even start at the he beginning of last season. Please read the post again - I haven't written anybody off, I said that they weren't the same player (based on those two games, and what we've seen / been told about him beforehand). You then agreed with this yourself but accused me of writing him off, which I didn't even hint at. As I said, if we want to play the same way as we did last season, we may need a like-for-like replacement for Kante. That doesn't mean Mendy is rubbish, nor does it mean we won't adapt our style of play and be equally effective. I'm not being critical, provocative or incredibly premature. I do like the positioning of the comma in your second sentence, however. It makes it look as though I, at the age of 36, stand a chance of actually becoming Kante. Which, in a way, is something to aspire to. So this isn't a critique of your grammar (I'm by no means perfect either), but rather a thank you.
