All it's doing is saying the players could cross paths again. It makes no reference to the stage of the competition. It doesn't imply at all, let alone clearly imply, about meeting in the knockout stages.

Prussian is right anyway "their paths could cross again" as it doesn't mention a stage it means in the competition as a whole which obviously includes both group stage and knockout stage.
