Sly Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 Just a thought and I'm not sure if it's ever been mentioned / picked up upon before. CAPTAINS Look throughout our team. Morgan, Fuchs, Inler, Musa - All captains of their respective national sides, or at least they were when they joined. Then you see others that we have bid for Deeney, Adrian etc Cambiasso was a leader. Coincidental or target by type?
AKCJ Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 I like the idea that you don't have one captain, but 11. That was certainly the case last season. Everyone had each others backs.
Finnegan Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 We make a point of signing players that fit our team profile. Hard work, commitment, fighting spirit, etc. It's not surprising that people with those characteristics wind up as captains.
TiffToff88 Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 I always found the role of captain to be a bit pointless anyway. Why does someone need an armband to be a leader? Like you said, we have 11 leaders on the pitch quite often anyway, so whats the point in a captain really? it's just so we know who is taking part in the coin toss at the start of the game i guess. Until there is some sort of Rugby style rule where only the team captain can communicate with the referee then i feel like captains are completely pointless in football.

A bit of both methinks - its been raised by myself on here last year and Spherical Fox wrote a blog about it some time ago too.
zealot Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 This is number 1 reason in my book why we won the league. We have partnerships all over the pitch and players taking personal responsibility for situations every moment. Arsenal and England are examples of two teams who don't have these crucial partnerships and leadership all over the field!

foxy boxing Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 we've got more captains(leaders) than England and shows how much experience we've got with these players
bluebeau Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 Unless I am mistaken, Schmeichel is captain of Denmark?
MarriedaLeicesterGirl Posted 31 August 2016 Posted 31 August 2016 Musa .... I am pretty sure Nigeria passes the armband, so if you are a regular member of the team, you will serve as captain occasionally.
Grewks Posted 31 August 2016 Posted 31 August 2016 I think it is more to do with the personality of the player than the armband they wear. Morgan is our captain...But Huth does far more organizing than Wes.

You can tell the defence is more organised when Huth plays anyway and I've always felt Huth does more commanding than Morgan.
