harpendenfox Posted 11 October 2016 Posted 11 October 2016 Is not the case that with a fair few out on loan, and other youngsters like Kaputska and Grey playing for their international teams we simply don't have enough experience to compete?
Dan Posted 11 October 2016 Posted 11 October 2016 It needs a complete shake up. It's embarrassing how bad it is.
lgfualol Posted 12 October 2016 Posted 12 October 2016 Needs something if we're expected to attract top prospects/coaches to the set-up. I thought it would be flourishing after our Prem win.
Guest Lako42 Posted 12 October 2016 Posted 12 October 2016 We don't produce decent youngsters. Leicestershire doesn't produce top young footballers.

Sol thewall Bamba Posted 12 October 2016 Posted 12 October 2016 Who's Beaglehole reporting to? No accountability at all.

For a start off our academy has nothing to do with where the players playing for it are born. We look nationally for players now, as do most clubs, there could be plenty of talented kids from Leics for all you know, they just might not play for us Second, our academy has produced plenty of decent players and two of the Prem winning squad, King here since he was mid teens Schlupp since he was knee high to a grass hopper.

Jesus Christ chicken little the sky is falling in much. Yes, the lads trotting across the line for the U23's are a bit shit, but then on average they are a fairly young bunch and most of our better prospects and more experienced youngsters are either out on loan, on international duty, or considered first team squad members, I am sure if we played Cain, Lawrence, Kaputska, Chillwell, Gray, Elder, Choudhurry etc we would probably be getting better results but given they are all doing much more worthwhile things in playing senior, in some cases full international football, I'll not worry about our youth setup too much. Steve Beaglehole is the last person who should be coming in for criticism on this board, he's been academy manager for donkeys and has over seen the development of King, Schlupp, Chillwell, who play in the first team two of which are Premier League winners, not to mention players we have sold on for tidy sums and went on to play Prem football when we needed the money like Stearman, Mattock and Gradel.

As I said, we don't produce top players. Leicestershire leagues are a lower standard that pretty much every equivalent that surrounds it, a few half decent sides but no teams where the club will go and be almost certain of finding a decent standard player.

And you've worked this out by giving up your weekends watching East Midlands youth football for years I'm hoping otherwise you are totally unqualified to make such a sweeping statement.

I have been heavily involved with youth level football throughout the county for the last 10 years, in various roles. The club also has this opinion and spends relatively little time scouting the majority of Leicestershire leagues these days. Having said that, the younger side of the youth setup at Leicester has been of a low standard for a very long time, I know 3 huge Leicester supporting fathers who have taken their boys out of the Leicester setup and over to Derby.

I didn't say the county, you claim to know a lot about the surrounding area's setup and interestingly mention Derby who have not produced a Derby born "top level" player in the entire time I have followed football. I know a bloke who scouts for us, all he does is scout the local Leicestershire leagues. But as I say it's irrelevant, the "we don't produce decent youngsters" is line has no bearing on our academy performance given we look internationally for young talent now. Any issue with he standard of local youth football is Leics FA problem not the clubs.

Is that true? It's been a few years since I played, but I was always under the impression that the Leicestershire youth leagues were pretty strong. We always seemed to do okay against teams from neighbouring counties in tournaments, etc.

To be honest if you look at the England team in general they hail from all over the place, but stereotypically we get a lot of players bought up up Norf and from Landan (Majority of the team still do, although most are northern only a couple from The Smoke knocking around) The East Midlands in general isn't renound for producing a huge amount of talent. Having said that there's an argument to be made about the standard of English players in general, the standards of coaching and the number of coaches nationally, tied into the English FA setup at the moment, which is the biggest problem with English football at the moment. As much as some people would have you believe it is whether Wayne Rooney plays or not.

We've actually got a truck load out on international duty, yet again, another reason to perhaps not pay the result to much lip service.
