majaco Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 Midfield is clearly a problematic area. With a stronger squad this year, we are vastly inferior to last season; we were the best team in England. Repeating the obvious, losing Kante was massive. While accepting other areas are weaker this season than last, the midfield would make a huge difference. I like Amartey but he is inconsistent; praise for Mendy was less than fulsome before his injury; King is questionable at this level. On the Amartey thread, there is a suggestion that Hernandez could play as a dm. I wonder if Albrighton may have the qualities. He works hard, tracks back, is an intelligent footballer, does the simple stuff well, can execute more ambitious passes. Out wide many of his crosses are wasteful. Gray deserves more of a chance. Could Albrighton be a potential solution?
Eskay Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 The sooner people realise how limited Albrighton's footballing skills are the better. His passing is average at best. Physically gets bullied. Can't dribble and take a man on.....as for tracking back yes he does do that, but hardly makes a tackle. Don't get me started on his jumping and heading. Yesterday he produced his standard two things in a game....a ball into the box aiming at nobody and that pass down the line to vardy as if to try and catch defenders out. I think the shot he had is on the M25 somewhere. We're champions.....we shouldn't just pick attacking players based on how well they defend!
Wymsey Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 No, he's alright where he is - knows his game well there and usually looks comfortable. Judt bloody annoying Mendy is in for medical treatment all the while.
TMELcfc Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 Albrighton is great if we are already high up the pitch, set pieces, delivers a good cross and the closest we came to scoring yesterday was his cross... BUT... Away from home, he's terrible. We cannot counter attack with him, too slow. And his one ball over the top that worked well with Vardy last season won't anymore as teams have worked it out... They sit a bit deeper. Claudio had two weeks to work on something different, and didn't. as for central midfield, I'd sit amartey deep in front of our terrible defence and play Drinky and Mendy when fit and gray and mahrez behind Slimani to link play with them. Vardy is well off it at the minute.

Don't forget the time he put the ball out for a corner when Costa was free and would have scored. Albrighton's defensive work is second to none. He's not the flair type of player. Mahrez, our flair player, gets bullied too - he lost the ball in centre midfield yesterday which nearly led to a goal. Of course he's completely average but we're only an average side. Only Drinkwater has stood out this season. I think Albrighton should be on the right.
Koke Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 Albrighton is a poor mans James Milner. A very poor mans James Milner. He's an OK player but nothing more than that. His passing and creativity isn't good enough for him to be a CM. If you're a winger and your main attributes are your defensive work then you know you're limited.
VLC86 Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 Seriously the state of our fans. Albrighton, the guy who was a key player in us winning the league providing assist after assist is a poor player because we have had a bad start. Stunning stuff, beyond parody.

Countryfox Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 I'm waiting for the sequel to this thread .... Could Schmeichel play in central midfield ?. Got my answer ready for that one too.

Monsell1976 Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 No because he to one footed, and has no composure on the ball, panic's and hoofs it.
Wymsey Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 It's sad that 1 bad loss equates to certain people over worrying/moaning.

I'm not saying sell him am I? Have I written that? I have said that he is bang average and to answer the original posters question; that he doesn't have the skills to be a defensive mid. Sure he played in the Champions winning team......he also had one of the best left backs in the league last season behind him too. Oh and managed to avoid even a mention of getting into the England sqaud. If he was put up for sale do you think anybody would actually sign him? Looking at the wingers in the league, I would say no.
Countryfox Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 Just now, Koke said: Our favourite is could Okazaki play in CM. @Babylon Good idea ! ... Wish I'd thought of that one !

You could write that for any one of our players. Drinkwater didn't get in the England squad? What's your point? Our only chance yesterday was when Luiz hit his own post from a cross by..... Albrighton. Also, their third goal, Andy King does not track Moses which Albrighton would have.

My point that you refer to is that Albrighton wasn't even mentioned. Seriously just read things a couple of times. At 2 nil down and chasing the game...Im less worried about tracking back. King stands a much higher chance of scoring a goal. But you're probably right. Albrighton is amazing. I'm sure that Kyle Walker and Danny Rose are scared stiff at the prospect of 'Messi of the Midlands' coming to town.
Max Power Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 So we can have a different angle on his aimless punts forward? Nah you're alright mate. He can have a breather and Gray can come in
