No need for the sarcastic comments, I do somewhat agree with your OP I just think you could apply the same thought process to most of our players. We are completely average and having lost a world class player (Kante) that is now showing. Morgan, Huth, Simpson are all, what you call 'average' and the likes of Schlupp are below that. Only Drinkwater has been consistently class this season. As they say, class is permanent.

crazyleicester Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 He probably could but if we are going to play 3 midfielders I would rather play Kapustka who does seem to have an eye for a pass from what I have seen of him. He is more of a playmaker whilst Albrighton to me is a wide player but needs people to deliver it to. He seemed more effective last season when supplying balls for Ulloa and he also seemed to be getting more of the ball to try and do something. We need Mendy fit as that lad can pass the ball, especially longer accurate passing. We also need to do something about our formation that sees DD more forward to try them incisive passes as he is playing too deep.

inckley fox Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 If you look at the position maps from last season he actually spent a lot of the time in the middle, and as a team we don't have too many square pegs in round holes so, if we're desperate, it shouldn't be an idea which is laughed straight out of town. But neither has Albrighton been markedly better than the rest of late, other than in his work-rate, so I suspect that whatever has affected the others - the loss of Kante, age, weight, pre-season, tactical tweaks, the increased attentions of our rivals, poor signings that don't gel etc. - has also hit him. Personally I think the loss of belief came from players seeing that Kante hadn't been adequately replaced, and not believing that the system would be so effective this season. Pretty much everyone on the planet, save for a couple of posters on here, could see that our recruitment was woeful, and players notice these things too. Maybe the pre-season added to the malaise, leading them to believe that they weren't in the best of shape, and perhaps the drive to get back into condition isn't as great as it once was. Even among the coaching staff - specifically Ranieri who seems to excuse them not turning up to certain games - it seems they're not being asked to go the extra mile. This won't be the case for everyone. If we sign new players and they're the right sort of character, their drive will be unaffected by last season. Gray will be driven, Amartey, Chilwell, the new signings - whether they're good enough or not. And in Gray's case, I think it's worth trying the 4-3-3 with him and Mahrez in the wide attacking roles, and Slimani in the middle so Vardy gets a little time to get his hunger back. It might involve Mahrez more and provide three in the centre to protect that back line. Who the three are, I'm not sure, Amartey looks to me like he'll enjoy life in a three, Drinkwater's obviously crucial right now (to the extent that one injury could cripple our season). I don't know whether the third is Albrighton, Mendy, Okazaki, King, James... no name leaps out. And, of course, it doesn't change the fact that Morgan won't be able to fall asleep at corners and so on.

cc_star Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 Albrighton is a cracking player for us, hus workrate is unbelievable and I believe it could be of great use in the centre, especially his ability to track runs etc Drinkwater needs a partner, Amartey is too inconsistent and the 3 of them would be worth looking at However, unless the manager stops accepting & excusing dire performances - we'll continue to get them

RedSoxUK Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 Albrighton is a very fine wide midfielder, tracks his man too which can't be said about many wide players / wingers. He's very good in a system, especially our system - but it would not be worth experimenting by putting Albrighton in CM. We seemed to do so well last year with Kante / Drinkwater because they both played a similiar role, but with Drinky taking on a more technical role and Kante a more tackling leaned one. They both did theit box to box jobs and linked very well. IMO it's not about getting a DM, it's not really about getting in a player that can tackle and intercept like Kante, because it just isn't Kante. You can't replicate what once was, there are way too many things at play to pin all the dwelling on one player leaving, even if that was a extremely important cog. We had 4 of the outfield 10 that didn't play in the 'main' 11 last season that won it, if we wanted to see how we would fare without changing or percieved progress, we would have Okazaki starting over Musa, etc, and ofcourse injury and schedule has kept others out the 11, but we really can't blame our entire demise on Kante, it just catapultes him and lowers us, when in actual fact there's a lot of changes, a lot of new additions, aging, lack of pressing, that are definitely more impactful than having a speedy Kante in a gap. So no, I would not try Albrighton as CM, i don't think he can do it personally and we have enough in the midfield. Where we seem to be lacking is tactically, the defence are hoofing it too much and we're not winning the second balls from those hoofs, the structure seems to be a bit too flat across the midfield because neither Musa / Vardy // whoever is striker just isn't covering the extra ground. I'd back Amartey till we have a clear partner to DD, this is all about partnering DD ans building that player up to be able to link up with the entire team.

Sunbury Fox Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 Personally, I'd play Albrighton as a right wing back in a 343 ie the role Moses had for Chelsea yesterday. Mahrez would then have the benefit of some good attacking support, rather than always being isolated against 3 defenders. Meantime, playing Hernandez on the right of a back 3, should help provide defensive cover when Albrighton goes forward and also gives us a centre half who is more comfortable on the ball. The main problem with 343 is how we fit both Vardy and Slimani into the team. Vardy would have to play on the left of the front 3, I guess.

(Sorry, that last bit should be in the ranieri bash thread)

yag101 Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 Absolutely yes. Only in a three man midfield though. Not sure why everyone's slating him so hard, he was magnificent in some games earlier this season.
