There are pictures of Rooney completely bolloxed on the front page of every paper with him in his Vauxhall sponsored England training kit. Can't imagine they're best pleased. Meh. That shouldn't bother us in my view, tell them if they don't like it the national football team can very easily find another sponsor. I don't see how it even reflects badly on them myself.
Dan Posted 17 November 2016 Posted 17 November 2016 On a scale of 1-10, how likely are you to not buy a Vauxhall because you saw Wayne Rooney on the front page of The Scum pissed in an England shirt that had Vauxhall on it. "Oh sorry sir, it's a great car and all that, but it'll have to be Citroen for me, they aren't shrouded in such negative press". --------------------------------- Rooney's losing the captaincy over it. You know, we played some alright stuff the other night, a small part of me wondered if I might actually end up liking Southgate and this team again. Tonight rules that out. How utterly pathetic are we.
AS78UK Posted 17 November 2016 Posted 17 November 2016 Honestly what a load of nonsense. There next match wasn't till Friday and training not till the next afternoon. They had one night out, it doesn't take a few days to recover from a night out. They played better against Spain than I thought they would before I found out about the night out, so I clearly don't think it affected them. In fact it might have built some team spirit and helped...
ealingfox Posted 18 November 2016 Posted 18 November 2016 Not sure what the problem with him losing the captaincy is, it could finally allow the team to move forward. Rooney needed binning and has done for years, but ironically it was the suits and the sponsors that have kept him in the mix. Surely no other reason that every manager since after Capello has been continually picking him, despite the fact that there was no place for him in our best team or best formation. As long as he had the captaincy as well he couldn't be touched. Now, he can be given more of a fringe role, with no pressure to include him, and eventually sacked off. If this is Southgate's call its very shrewd, because he benefits and it looks like the suits and sponsors have done it, and they'll get the blame for it from those who don't like it. Yeah bit of a shame its a flimsy reason for demoting him, but god knows why you'd oppose it in footballing terms.

The fact it was done on non-footballing terms is a far bigger concern to me than who our captain is.

Yeah but its no surprise is it? That's how it is with England. At least this time its positive in footballing terms for once.

fuchsntf Posted 18 November 2016 Posted 18 November 2016 Press kindergarten..FA should of played them and the whole media...!!! Night and Morning off..Neither footballers nor Rugby players are single athletes. Unwarranted witchhunt..Too much OTT PC. I am hell of alot more worried and disgusted about the consistent foggy happenings, In the inquireries in the abuse in childrens homes. I know my type of people..we all like a a booze up and slap and tickle..where as.. Sexual abuse in private and govt childrens/care homes, always keep being pushed to the side, too many police, politicians and society leaders involved.... Give the plebs a story over their own sporting and celeb heroes, then the childrens homes abuse might get forgotten....I couldnt give a damn about the England teams, late drinking hours. I care more on the action or frankly lack of it!!! that politicians and authorities are failing delibrately and corruptly mishandling the case of.....child abuse on easy targeted victims.Hoping the passing of time will force it into forgotten history. Government media smoke and mirrors.. End of.!!! Football players or sportsman are not breaking any rules or laws, just men being boys.....bloody funny!! The other isnt, and keeps being pushed down the media priority list, stinks..!!
