Spurs (if the sources are correct) came for him in the winter because they know it is their best chance of landing him. In the summer Chelsea and arsenal will come for him and you will see the true level of the "one season wonder" He has done that once in his career. Don't get me wrong I expected a lot of Riyad. But he flopped at the African nations too. Maybe he needs a different direction but If you're a scout at Chelsea or Arsenal - are you really going to recommend him at the moment? Whose he going to replace? Moses? Doesn't like tracking and it would be a waste. Hazard? How about Carzola? Riyad ad needs to have a seriously strong end to the season. I would wish him all the best but I want him to go to a Chelsea or an Arsenal, not Stoke.

I was so desperate he didn't go to Arsenal. I thought he'd score 20+ goals in the Prem for the next few years Same. I know we often rage that players aren't trying hard enough, but can that really be true? Probably true for Vardy as he now has many distractions, and playing football is probably a much smaller part of his life. But surely Mahrez looking as poor as he currently does won't get the move of his dreams? Same for Drinkwater. Obviously someone will come in for them, but probably not the move they might have expected at their peak.

He was ****ing PFA player of the year last May! African player of the year, full international, left footed winger, young age with huge ability and still potential. I'm sure Chelsea fans was asking the same about Hazard last year Much as I admire Mahrez, this season has cruelly exposed how physically weak he is, particularly when compared to Hazard who is much more difficult to knock off the ball.

Although they are both game changers they are both different in terms of type of player they are. The point being they are both game changers who had previously picked up the PFA and having a slump in form - we just now think he has now become worthless and lucky to get rid. Hazard needs to be physically stronger for his more direct approach, Mahrez is happy to weave in and out of opponents - he's 'physicality' isn't found out because of his size it's because is closed down quicker and by more opposition to make him become ineffective with a dysfunctional set up providing little support - granted some self inflict in their too regarding his performances as he and 90% of the squad aren't as mentally prepared too

Guest the fox Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Chelsea goal, man city goal, spurs goal, stoke elastico nutmeg assist. Those are not things a one season wonder can do. Next year he will be playing with quality players and people will look back and proudly say "he was a Leicester player"

I hope you are right. I do think Riyad needed this year to show he was of the same class as Pedro who does have goals in a very successful Barcelona team. I don't think his collapse at the African nations helped but maybe I had higher hopes for what turned out to be a mediocre Algerian team. I want Riyad to do well and maybe he should take a leaf out of Mane's book. He does need a strong finish to have the same appeal as he did last summer.

erlee Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 doesn't make sense... surely you meant 40% of their pay-rise or 40% of their weekly gross package. should be 90%

He's a one season wonder. A Michael Ricketts of the modern era. I don't think the club will sell cheap and there's no tournament football for him to rely on to get a move like Sissoko did. Mahrez will leave. No worries about that.

Bossman Blessed It Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 If Newcastle got £30 million for Sissoko after literally one good game in the Euros and a few decent performances in the PL, we should still get a good amount for Mahrez. On a side note, I'm sure every comment about us flogging him has an undertone of sadness to it. This season he's not been good at all, lazy in fact. However, last year, he was arguably the most talented player to ever put on the shirt, in the modern generation at least. Footballing ability is always completely relative to the time its being played. In a modern era, with state of the art pitches, training facilities, money and technically incredible players, in the most coveted league in the world, we can say that we had the best player. The way he had defenders on toast effortlessly, some of the shooting and dribbling with both feet... The audacity to pull off an elastico and nutmeg one of Stoke's players... As much as it is time for him to go, nobody can deny it was more than a pleasure to watch him at his finest.

Yes but this is Leicester City... we will end up selling him for £15mill and say it's good business cause we only bought him for £400k

lgfualol Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Mahrez will have no problem finding another club, and will probably take a pay-cut to do it. He'd still rip teams apart in a confident attacking side with players that can do the footballing basics. 40% is quite a chunk and you wonder if it is true, because if I was about to lose 40% of my wages I'd be working a lot harder. I don't really want us to have anyone earning over 35k/week in the champ. Not any of our current lot anyway.
Vestan Pance Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 I'd be very surprised if JV is on a pay cut deal. I can't imagine anything offered by Arsenal has such clauses, so why agree to that here?
Gerard Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 12 hours ago, ian_marshall said: So if we go down we'll be paying Vardy £60k in the Championship. Whoever signed that off within the management team needs to be held accountable. Awful negotiating. It really isn't. The club was right to try and keep a player who was arguably the best in the league last season and his wages were the market rate at the time. 40% drop in wages relegation clause is probably standard for at least 14 teams in the division.

Given this seasons efforts, many of them will still be monumentally overpaid even taking a 40% wage drop into account. 60k plus per week will be some salary to be on in the championship.
