Okazaki - the most hot and cold, genius, infuriating player to ever play for Leicester?

Really like Shinji and I believe the best partner for Jamie, he does however seem to spend a ridiculous amount of time falling to the ground maybe he has labyrinthitis?

I don't understand how he can have scored so many goals for Japan when he only seems capable of netting tap-ins lol

He makes some great runs into the box and always seems to try and get on the end of things, but rarely does.

He has the worst balance of any player I have ever seen, as no one should fall over as much as he does. Whether it is a tactic to win free-kicks I don't know.

We will need him fresh for Wednesday as his work rate and pressing will be a massive help against a quality side. I'd rest him tomorrow.

It's a given that a player will occupy another on the pitch and not something unique to Shinji (although he is quite selfless with his runs), if we could sign someone that had 80% of Shinji's workrate but could create or score chances we'd be a much better team. Vardy is great at stretching defences vertically so if we had a player capable of scoring outside of the box say like Gylfi Sigurdsson, as one example, we'd be better at breaking sides down as well as providing more of threat so it'd potentially free up Riyad* too.

However, we're much better when he's in the side, he's our only forward that can actually drop deep and sometimes link play well.

I agree in the sense that he either has a bad game or a good game. Either everything sticks to him and he puts himself about and links up brilliantly, or everything bounces off him as if he were an inanimate object.

However, and I don't mean this disrespectfully, but he's never really been at the 'hot' end of the scale for me. He's an effective player a lot of the time, and I like him, but I don't ever watch him and think he looks 'like Messi' or 'like Kante', he almost never does anything world class or particularly impressive.

I mean when does he skin players or score screamers? In fact has he ever scored a 'good' goal? Or complete a really clever, defence splitting pass? Ok occassionally he does a nice flick, or turns someone and wins a free kick. But for me he's just a very limited player who works hard and fits the team really well.

I'd say if 'hot and cold' described anyone in our team it would be Mahrez. As in he is truly world class when in form, but like a pub player when off his game, as we've seen for most of this season.

errrm, what is this nonsense

overhead kick against newcastle, goal against spurs in the cup and goal against brugge are all great goals

people dont half talk rubbish on this message board

I think Shinji is an important part of our team but I don't think that totally excuses the lack of tangible output. A better player would do what he does and manage a greater statistical output.

Who is that better player that does what he does with a greater statistical output and would come to us right now?

Classy player and his technical ability on the ball is excellent. His link up play is very good. I appreciate a few areas where he could improve but certainly important to the side.

There is this myth that he isn't technically good on the ball. The only reason people think this, is because he goes down fairly often. When he actually stays on his feet with the ball as I said he's excellent.

Yea right...

There's people in this thread saying he's good for team but he can be improved upon and there's people in this thread with Shinji avatars saying he's responsible for half of the goals we score lol

For Shinji's sake, I hope he goes out and has a day against Madrid or Everton.

Might dampen some of this rubbish about him punching above his weight.

Hope he does, that will at least be a little something for the pro-okazaki to use in their arguments apart from "he runs a lot" and "we play better with him" (even tho I think the last thing about him playing with the team is kinda truelol)

Like the guy a lot, he seems like a nice person/teammate, and with that out of the way, let's get into what I think about him.

This brings me no joy but sadly I have to say, okazaki for us is nothing but a work-rate merchant (IMO), the intangibles are just not there, not a goal scorer, not a playmaker, his shot, first touch, passing, shooting, dribbling and balance are anything but amazing, there is really nothing that he does (apart from having a very good work-rate) that can be libeled "PL staring quality" (I guess he has some sense of positioning, but that's about it)

And before people jump into any conclusions, I'm not building any case for slimani to start, I like this starting 11 and if they keep on winning then why change it?

I have nothing against the little man, but he created half of our goals with his running? What is he supposed to do other than that, he is obviously will not be scoring, dribbling, assisting, creating so he better position himself well or we should just sign a marathon runner to do the leg work.

If you're referring to me, I don't think I've said anything of the sort.

I think shinji would of scored a few more goals if he is played as a no9, he has been told to play in between the midfield and striker and brought us great success, we won the league with him being regular ( remember ) he scores plenty for Japan as a no 9 but why change position when it's been working, I agree shinji trips over his own feet and looks for free kicks, but he is a clever footballer and knows his role well, his not perfect but God if he is, he would of been in a big club, u see the difference when he goes off, there are gaps everywhere, especially if u have mahrez and Gray on the pitch, they don't track back and help out the defence

Fvck knows but I don't see the relevance of that.

All I was saying is that he's good but could surely be improved upon but that seems to be a stretch too far for some posters.

If you think we can get a better version of him then who is it?

I just said I don't know, but I'm not paid to spend my days finding talented football players and just because I can't name someone it doesn't mean they don't exist.

I'm not really sure why you're asking me this anyway, you surely don't think there's no-one in the world who could perform his role better do you? That's all that I have said.

How about valère Germain from Monaco, watched him last season for OGC nice and I was impressed, doesn't have as great of a work rate as okazaki but definitely a better player

Or leon goretzka, watched schalke a fair bit because of bentaleb, he was playing as a CM last season but he is playing as a CAM/third mid in a 3-5-2 or something close with sead kolasinac and schöpf as the wing backs, schalke's formation is too flexible to pinpoint the exact formation. Leon can be our CAM that offers a better defensive set of skills than okazaki and can actually be a CM back-up, he plays a little like dele Ali if you are wondering about his play style, the only problem is, he will be hard to get

I can name better number 10's if you like me to (e.g boudebouz) but i can't really find many players with okazaki's profile.

I would like for us to have a go at pastore, who knows?

IMO Yoda does much better job as Slim lookalike than that kitten in other thread!

Did he get an injury part way through the half? It was the right decision by Shakey to bring another midfielder on but wonder whether it was forced on him.

As for Shinji tonight. Tough game for him but he struggled to do some of the basics well and the falling over/diving is just wasted on refs as they are predictable and obvious.

Try staying on your feet and lets see what happens. Not going to criticise too much though as he was having to play so deep, he was practically a defensive midfielder.

I would rest him at the weekend and play him again on Tuesday but probably yank him off at half-time again for Slimani or Gray, who offer genuine goal scoring threats.

What does slimani have to do with anything here?
