Ted Maul Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Kasper, defenders and Ndidi excellent. Drinkwater and Mahrez dreadful. The rest OK. Shakey did well- extra man in midfield gave us a proper foothold in the game.
iancognito Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Defensively we were rock solid and it's a shame they got the pen because they'd have got more desperate for the goal and had to open up more. Someone needs to have a word with Shinji and tell the littel basterd to stay on his feet or at least practice his diving. The Snipered look is wearing thin and even the continental refs are wise to it now. The King substitution actually worked because Greaseyman got less space to exploit and there were far less shots getting pinged in. The only spare part was - as ever all season - Mahrez. I have no idea why we're playing someone who's a shadow of his former self. If Gray was giving the ball away so often and so wasteful in attack he'd get pelters on here and be dropped. Mahrez seems untouchable and it's becoming more frustrating. The 2nd leg is beautifully poised. we're 6 days away from the greatest day in our history or arriving back on planet earth with a bump. Either way, crazy times for us all.
fairbanksh Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Schmichael 8 not much to do but still commanding Simpson 8 resilient Fuchs 8 could have been roasted but solid and composed Huth 9 I'm sure he has picked up speed ( not hard) but immense Benny 10 feared for reaction after Everton but mom brilliant Ndidi 9 got better as game wore on Drinkwater 7 struggled with their midfield Ockazaki 4 really poor I'm afraid Mahrez 7 not as bad as some say. Wish people would get off his back. Def penalty watched replay back at hotel Vardy 8 a good defence were worried by his constant harrying he's our Diego Costa orrible to play against Subs King 7 not a fan but substitutions worked Slimani 7 Shakespeare 9 games don't come tougher Athletico 8 seriously good Ref 4 seriously bad
drofmor55 Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Kasper 6 Did what he had to, which was not a lot ,...his kicking could have been better Simpson 8 Resilient Huth 8 " Benaloune 8 " Fuchs 8 " Albrighton 9 Used to think he would be out of his depth at this level..i was wrong Drinkwater 7 Looks a bit lethargic lately...im probably wrong again Ndidi 8 cant remember him ever having a bad game Mahrez 6 always has at least 2 people marking him..shows how much other teams fear him...but his defending has gone back to being lazy,no excuse for that Okazaki 6 buzzed around as per usual ..his dives are embarrassing Vardy 7 Gave his all...cant ask more than that given he was so isolated King 7 Tidy Slimani 7 Battled well when he came on Shakespeare 8 Tactically astute Ath.Madrid 6 pleasantly dissapointed with them..we were on top when they broke away to score....we can beat these Ref 2 i will give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was inept ...5 yards away and looking straight at it ?
Adster Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Drinkwater dreadful again, what is wrong with him. Been absolutely awful for the past 4/5 games, a complete passenger. Could've conceded a few tonight from him losing possession far too easily in the middle.

Should have thrown another sub on to affect the clock and what was he thinking with King?. Think he should stay but we will not go far with him. Kind of like Pearson. Good man management but lacking technically. Like most English managers I am afraid Bringing King on kept us in the tie. Greizmann was having an absolute field day in the first half because he had the space to drop near the half way line. Even though King didn't do much on the ball, his off the ball presence completely nullified that in the second half. We stopped Athletico from gaining a considerable advantage over us and are still in the tie.
Edysli Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Between. Oka and Slim there is a difference unless Shakey can't see it, I do understand that Slim came from an injury and is recovering but I was expecting to see Demmy Slim Vardy playing together ... That is the real trio of danger as of now. Mahrez needs to be benched Albrighton can be good most of the times Drinky benched Not sure why he insists on King? Thanks Slim is the instant killer with the header + physical presence in the box + Portuguese experience must be close to Spanish + he keeps deffenders back .. I don't see any plus from Oka unless someone sees one or more... King to cover the middle field??? Joking Shakey. If you told me Albrighton might cover the midfield I say yes. I would have put Ndidi Amartey Albrighton as 6-8-10 Gray Vardy Slim as 7-11-9 second half: Mahrez in for Slimani Gray switch to left Or Musa in Left for Gray (Gray gets tired at the end) Please keep Albrighton as a 10 for the rest of the season with this nothing can go wrong and LCFC will win many games .....
Harry - LCFC Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Back four deserve high ratings IMO. To effectively keep a clean sheet and reduce Atletico to one clear cut chance is impressive. Albrighton and Ndidi did well too

I agree very bizarre comment, there was a gaping whole in the middle of the park in the 1st half which was shored up by King, 1-0 was a good result, I'd have liked to have seen Vardy an slim for the last 5-10 mins for Drinky, but am aware that would of further exposed us to a 2nd.
Chico1958 Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 I'm beginning to warm towards Shakespeare Benny was by far the best defender on the pitch........... Closely followed by Huth Drinkwater is becoming a liability........... don't know where his head is at the moment Would have preferred a bit more attacking from us but with Mahrez not firing on all cylinders we needed Gray on All in all not a bad result
eastendfox Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 I reckon Drinkwater grew into it a bit, still not great but not as bad as some make out. Mahrez was fouling for fun at one stage in the second half which was odd. But you've got to go for the majority view that Huth and Benny were the stand-outs.

Putting a sub on doesn't affect the clock....refs/4th officials add time on for substitutions. I would have hooked Mahrez for Gray for the last 10 mins, though.

Not looking through blue tinted specs. Again today against Crystal Palace. We look disjointed. No more threat going forward. Similar to before Ranieri's departure. When he first left the players looked up for a fight. Against Athletico we had the fight but tactically disjointed and unthreatening. Athelico looked comfortable the whole time. Tired? Obviously today but again had no answer after they got their first. After then it was a forgotten conclusion that they would get another. Honestly thought they were going to go on and snatch the win. Look a different team under Alydyce. We can slag him off all day long but he does know how to organise a team and adjust during the game. Shakey lovely guy, fine coach but I haven't seen anything there yet to convince me how he will grind out results. Everton and again today not impressed. Against Athletico the team worked their socks off but would not be able to do that week after week.

Against Athletico the team worked their socks off but would not be able to do that week after week. He's lost 1 game in the league since taking over a sinking ship. I'm guessing winning the league has gone to your head and you expect us to maintain that level every season? Well that's not the reality. We've had a pretty poor season but that has now changed into a decent season since Shakespeare took over. We beat sevilla against all odds and kept a world class team at bay apart from a poor refereeing decision. Since he took over we beat Liverpool 3-1, Hull 3-1, sevilla 2-0, West ham 3-2, Stoke 2-0, Sunderland 2-0 and then lost 4-2 to Everton, 1-0 to Madrid and drew 2-2 with palace. 19 goals in 9 games is just over 2 goals a game. Not bad really. Add that to the fact we have no squad depth and the players are knackered then I think he's done an excellent job. Give him the job permanently in the summer in my opinion. Oh and if you think he's not up to the job, enlighten me as to who you believe should take the job?
LCFCSOULBOY Posted 18 April 2017 Posted 18 April 2017 When you are winning everything looks great. But when the wobble occurs or just under achieving you need to be able to grind out wins. Sorry but haven't seen that yet. I am sorry but that is my observation. In Spain thought we should have had more of a go.
