Realist Guy In The Room Posted 30 May 2017 Posted 30 May 2017 I'd like to see us break our transfer record on a midfielder.

We absolutely need to buy a quality midfielder if we are to improve. I'd be amazed if the club is not targeting the purchase of a player in the middle of the park. Are you serious? No new central defenders?
Chester Dontlie Posted 30 May 2017 Posted 30 May 2017 One quality CM is a minimum! What if Ndidi gets injured? I wouldn't mind DM. I'm concerned about Mendy, he's still unproven. PL players will be costly and I'm not sure if we could attract someone better than Ndidi or Drinky (when he was good...) from PL so I reckon we should set sights on Europe again and get in an experienced international (no more youngsters please). I'd love it if we could get someone creative like Tadic (he wasn't an instant success but he proved to be a very good signing for Southampton) with a strong mentality and work ethic. Someone who would be more creative than Drinky and at the same not afraid to put his leg in. Fingers crossed for the summer window

Innovindil Posted 30 May 2017 Posted 30 May 2017 If not-so-fatty James is to be given every opportunity then I doubt we'll be in for a defensive minded mid. We 100% need a number 10 for okazaki's spot though. I love the lad, he seems like a great guy, but he isn't good enough if we want to push on.
Guest Posted 30 May 2017 Posted 30 May 2017 I would say so, most comments on here talk about someone proven. I would agree. Ndidi needs someone who can be a playmaker. At present I don't think that is DD
foxes21 Posted 30 May 2017 Posted 30 May 2017 DD does not need replacing. He'll be back to his best next season & James will be his back up. We need someone to compete with Ndidi.

AmarteyAndChill Posted 30 May 2017 Posted 30 May 2017 2 imo, Amartey and King are not good enough and no one knows if Mendy will be able to make it in the premier league.

ClaphamFox Posted 30 May 2017 Posted 30 May 2017 Just now, Babylon said: Problem is with DD, for a "creative midfielder", he's not very creative. Exactly. It's surprising how many people seem to regard him as a genuine creative midfielder.
Nick Posted 30 May 2017 Posted 30 May 2017 If you put it like this.... How many of our midfield would get in your fantasy football team? Albeit this would be based on assist and goal return, so after Vardy and Mahrez and possibly Albrighton we need more goals in the centre of the park and at number 10. So yeah, break the bank for some quality to compete with Drinks, Ndidi (in fairness Ndidi should be Drinks's understudy and competition, not our other starting central midfielder in a bank of four) and the Okazaki role.

I'd back him to return to the level he shown in 2015/2016. He proved at his best (2015/2016) he is a very very good player and most importantly, a key player for us. Are you happy for Drinkwater to leave then? Because I can't see him wanting to stay as a bench warmer. People say we need to get better with possession, but want to replace one of the best passers in our squad.

That's because while he may be one of the best passers in the squad, he's not objectively a great passer of the ball. We need a far better passer than Drinkwater in the middle. I'm not saying I'd be happy for him to leave, but I do think we badly need a high quality creative midfielder, and Drinkwater isn't him. Strengthening the squad wouldn't necessarily mean Drinkwater becomes a benchwarmer, but he would have some much-needed competition.

We need a far better passer than Drinkwater in the middle. I think Drinkwater's passing style suites us perfectly. He is very direct and prefers through balls, balls over the top and diagonal balls instead of sideways and backwards. These passes are more high risk though, so Danny's success rate isn't as high as some midfielders but his directness goes hand in hand with how we like to play.
