21 shots against 0 obviously doesn't read well and did well to keep it down to 3 goals.

11 v 11 Decent lower league team of well managed blokes raising their game against a young side of developing players average age 19.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

The sooner we're out of this farce the better. This token bollocks of giving youth a chance should be cancelled asap.

Absolutely!  Lets stop this absolute rubbish of giving youth a chance.  What good can ever come of such a rdiculous policy????

Sorry.....whats that you say about Chilwell, Gray, Ndidi, McGuire, Simpson, Drinkwater, James, (Ali, Rooney, Walcott, Mbappe, Neymar, etc, etc, etc) all playing 1st team football before they were 21.....?!?   Surely that cant be right can it....??

They all have to start somewhere and you need 16 players to field a team so without the "also-rans", where are the stars of the future ever going to start if you cancel any policy of giving youth a chance?

It destroys players . We have gone through this before . " winning breeds winning " .

So why did we sign Harry McGuire then who was part of a terrible side relegated last season?

if "winning breeds winning", why would anyone want to sign such a "loser"...?

i think you'll find it was the legendary Michael Jordan who said that he has lost and missed so many times........and that experience was exactly what made him into a such a great player!

The GREAT Tom Watson said it , i just agree . I watched the 4 managers involved in the cup in Hong Kong , find it and listen !! Oh 1 of them was Shakey !!

Really poor, I find it hard to be too critical of young lads playing against a strong Fleetwood side but they really were poor.

Gordon put himself about but he was bullied by the centre backs, hoof ball may work against academy sides but not against men. Absolutely terrible on the ball and keeper was woeful. The full back wood did ok, but he was all effort rather than any ability.

Pointless really, missing our best under 21 players either out on loan or with international teams.

I went to to this game as well. I was truly shocked with how poor they were - just hoofing down the channel and little thought or composure on the ball.

Ive heard from others who watch the development side that the coaching is thought to be poor. After watching this I can only agree.

Ill take the example of Michael Jordan over the 4 managers involved in some mickey mouse Hong Kong football tournament anyday!

they were talking about academy football  . but you talk alot and dont listen quite obviously .

the lads got hammered 3-0 , they got back at 3-30am ( nearly 24 hours away day) and were absolutely gutted . Carlisle away soon ,  i hope they win but i cant see it . what a great experience that'll be for them . NOT !!

I was also talking about academy football, but you obviously write a lot and dont read.

How else do you expect players to get expereience if you dont let them play in games that challenge them?

If youve ever watched academy football, you would realise that U23s develpment football is pretty stale and any players still playing at that level at age 22 are probably destined NOT to make it in the pro game so may as well test them out when they are 19-21.

Clearly against a very strong Fleetwood side they struggled badly (so do other League 1 sides!) but that doesnt mean they would struggle so badly against weaker sides in Div1 or Div2 sides.

With a bit of research, you would have noted that U21s of  Swansea, Reading, Fulham and West Ham all won this week and Man City, Chelsea and Spurs games went to Penalties.

Would you be suggesting to their management that it was NOT a great experience for their lads or do you base your logic purely on the result of one game???

And as for your point about Geogrpahy, i will treat that with the contempt it deserves.

Its not LCFCs fault they were drawn against sides so far away but presumably you are suggesting that young players can only play in games where they will be back home and in bed by 12 o clock latest. (perhaps thats why West Ham beat Swindon because its only 1 hour travle time away???)

Not quite sure how you know they got back at 3;30am but Fleetwood is only a 3 hour drive so should have been home by 1;30am latest so again, NOT much LCFC could have done about that. Perhaps they cpopuld invest in a "faster" team bus?

If any of our lads ever make it to the Pro game, late night travelling would be  part of the deal so  its all part of getting used to what will be expected and seeing who is up to the challenge.

Still focussed on the "not playing young players playing in games where they wont be home until after midnight" are we as i noticed you failed to answer any of the really significant points relating to young players gaining expereince and how all other PL U21 teams competed well and doubtless viewed it as a very positive exercise...?!?

Probably achieve more in life if you foucs less on the cheap insults and focus a bit more on the key issues that are worthy of discussion (ie player development and academy coaching structure).......as opposed to travel time and who got to bed at what time!

So....on the back of your thoughts on NOT being a good expereince for young players to play in games agaisnt Div1 opponents where they lose badly and dont get home until late, what are your views on fielding FIVE first team players in a U23s Development fixture and only THREE players who have progressed through our Academy?

if you dont think young players should play away games against stronger opposition if they get home late and they are not selected for HOME games agaisnt players their own age...............where/when exactly are they going to get a chance to play and develope...?!?

Do you still retain the same views after the Carlisle 'experience' last night.......or do you now view this as a good learning curve and opportunity for our younger players to be involved in AWAY games against senior professional sides (even if it means them not getting home until after midnight)?!?

and you clealry dont like admitting when you're wrong or too quick to judge.

Being as you think youre such a good listener, did you listen to Beagleholes interview after the game as he clearly doesnt share your view any longer about this being a s*** experience?

You really are so inconsietent in your views.....and then you resort to your brave 'keyboard warrior' cheap insults!

In your oringal statement after the Flettwoood experience, you refer to me not listening to the interviews after the game and you say "lets wait and see what heppens after the Carlisle game"

So we wait and see what happens after the Carlisel game.........and when I point out to you what a great experience it was for the young players as stated in the post match interviews, you tell me im a "nutter" for referring to Beags post-match interview.

Your inconsistent views on the quality of the Cup itself are absolutely irrelevant when discussing the topic of Yth player development and finding ways to test young inexperienced players against higher level opposition. No-one at LCFC seriously believes they have any chance of winning the Cup, its all about exposing young players and taking them out of their U23 comfort-blanket zone to see who has any chance and who is ready to take the step up to the next level.

Thankfully, LCFC dont judge the importance of Yth development based on whether or not YOU can remember who played in last years final...!!

Try thinking long-term for a change rather than "it's a shit cup and we're not gunna win it"
