Some people still think Ulloa > Slimani and that's their opinion, fair enough. The proof is in the pudding when the season starts. I understand it's an opinion, I'm saying there is nothing to back it up.

Ndidi is awesome and will develop to be an upgrade, but he's 20 and still learning at the moment. He's not the same kind of player as Kante, so you can't say he's going to be an upgrade. That's like saying Kante is an upgrade on Lampard. Ndidi is already a better footballer than Kante but he'll almost certainly never be a better player for us. Kante was irreplaceable because he played that particular role better than anyone ever has, certainly in my living memory. Effectiveness is what it's all about - you don't buy players because they're the best footballers, you buy them because they will have the maximum effect on your team.

Tottenham and Arsenal performed better than usual, Man Utd were the same as they have been every season since Fergie left, Man City are inconsistent from season to season and didn't really do particularly badly and Liverpool have finished out of the top 4 more often than not over the past 10 years. The fact is we no longer have Kante and he makes the difference of about 5 league places. In addition, our manager is not tactically astute nor does he inspire. These are the main differences from our title winning season, the other stuff is minor. It largely doesn't matter what other teams do. Had the players had a bit more self belief instead of believing the 'perfect storm' nonsense we wouldn't have finished in the bottom half last season. I completely get what you're saying, but realistically, that's once in a lifetime stuff. The table doesn't lie and we deserved it, but something like that will never happen again in our lifetime. We missed the chance last summer to kick on, but that may have been mentioned elsewhere on this forum! Edit: Breaking the top 6, then top 4 is doable. I have no doubts about that, but coming from nowhere to win it? No chance.

whoareyaaa Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 Was thinking about this after the match on Friday.. Maguire looks like he is fitting in like a glove and it should create a strong bond with Kasper and Morgan, Simpson is solid and we have two good options on the left Ndiddi should be stronger with a full pre season with the squad and the experience gained from last season could see him shine, then you have quality players in Iborra, DD and James looks to have come back strong and hungry... The front line is terrifying for any defence with Marhez, Nacho, Vardy, Gray & Slimani along with Albrighton wipping them in... We could have a very good year, win it again then it would be a miracle but it would take some doing, we should be around the top 6/7 if the team is hungry for it!
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 Draw with MK Dons. Lose to Wolves. Lose to Burton = misery, relegation guaranteed, probably non league in less than a decade! Win against a side who finished ninth in the Bundesliga last season = we can win the feckin league again! Football fans

Albrighton and Mahrez on the wings with Gray from the bench Drinkwater and Ndidi from midfield with Iborra and James as the options. plus youngsters Barnes and Lawrence..... Add a potentially solid defense and world class keeper. 5000-1.........?⚽️ Erm nope. We are missing the best CM in the league and potentially the world. A sulky Mahrez and an ageing defence that bizarrely Shakespeare seems happy with..

desertfox2 Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 I'm expecting by the end of this season there will be a Ndidi feeding frenzy. Hoping there is no release clause as he is going right to the very top.
desertfox2 Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 Unfortunately most of the major sides are better than when we won the league. Chelsea should get less points this season than last but more than when we won it. And Liverpool could have a major loss if Coutinho leaves as he's world class but Utd Man City Arsenal are a lot stronger. Spurs not sure as they may struggle at Wembley but they are a strong side. Everton are an enigma.

foxy boxing Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 On Paper we look like we might be better but winning the Premier League depends on a lot of different factors(in the case of when we won two years ago). we have got players that need to prove themselves (Slimani, Musa and Iheanacho etc) plus the top sides have all strengthened.
SkidsFox Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 The good thing is we don't have an obvious weak area. When you look at other teams' forums, there is always one or two eg Fellaini or Rooney at Man U (eventually they sold them on), Mertesacker or Walcott at Arsenal. Not necessarily bad players, but unreliable ones. The danger is of course we sell a couple of good players before the deadline. I personally would hate to see Fuchs and Mahrez go, but feel we could cope with losing DD.

Ndidi is a good prospect but he is never going to be in the same league as Kante, the latter is the best player in his position since Makelele and improves the game of everyone else in the team.
