Shev Posted 28 August 2017 Posted 28 August 2017 Hello all, Wycombe fan here in peace. With the international break upon us and Leicester not in action, I would like to cordially invite you all to take in some League Two football at Adams Park, High Wycombe this coming Saturday, where the mighty Chairboys will take on Forest Green Rovers, those famous vegan warriors. If you are sick of the corporate side of the Premier League, and decry the loss of that sense of connection, fear not - we can offer agricultural tackles, sky high long balls and sections of terracing that will have you nostalgic for the 1980s! On a serious note, we boast the strongest footballer on the planet in Adebayo Akinfenwa, one of the most pleasant grounds in the country in Adams Park, and a fan owned club that is known for it's friendliness. To top it all, our league scorelines this year have been 2-2, 3-2, 2-4, and 3-2, so I can almost...almost, guarantee a feast of goals. As if all of that was not enough, we have a folky original song, that can be downloaded for free: I like it a lot, but then I am biased, as I wrote it! I know Leicester is quite a way from Wycombe, but for any of you that live near enough, and fancy visiting a welcoming club and taking in some League Two football, I am putting the word out.
Guest MattP Posted 28 August 2017 Posted 28 August 2017 Sorry dude I've still not forgiven you lot for Roy Essendoh. All the best against the Vegan millionaires though.

stripeyfox Posted 28 August 2017 Posted 28 August 2017 Just the mention of Wycombe ... can feel my PTSD coming on... Here it is in horrifying detail....

It's hard to believe now, but just seven days before "that" game, we beat Liverpool 2-0 at Filbert Street (Akinbiyi, Izzet) to go 4th in the Premier League (or Premiership or whatever it was called then).
Finnegan Posted 28 August 2017 Posted 28 August 2017 Can we have this thread deleted and stripeyfox banned please?
isaidno Posted 28 August 2017 Posted 28 August 2017 I went to your first match against Lincoln. Enjoyable day out. Nice beer tent outside selling real ale and cheap barbecue. Akinfenwa was useless that day, but is banging in the goals since .

cambridgefox Posted 28 August 2017 Posted 28 August 2017 Wycombe usually stuff my ACCA up. For that reason I'm out!
Stadt Posted 28 August 2017 Posted 28 August 2017 The first time I heard the Essandoah story I really struggled to believe it
Shev Posted 28 August 2017 Author Posted 28 August 2017 Well you are all welcome, but considering Leicester's overall trajectory of late, and the evident PTSD over Essandoh, it was always going to be a hard sell, compared to a team in complete shambles like Arsenal. Glad to see @isaidno caught the Lincoln game, though!
Basingstoke Fox Posted 29 August 2017 Posted 29 August 2017 Really enjoyed the League Cup game there a few years back. Really nice ground, surreal looking out into the shire while watching football though and a great beer tent with some surprisingly good Guinness. Think that would've been because the ground was being shared with Wasps at the time though. Essandoh was before my time supporting the club but it is absolutely horrendous from our PoV how that played out.
Shev Posted 29 August 2017 Author Posted 29 August 2017 Yes, Wycombe fans are proud of our club and stadium. Being fan owned is a really positive thing overall - there is that sense of everyone pulling together, and volunteer programs to help the club live within it's means. I hope more teams at our level get taken over by their fans, as we would avoid more Leyton Orient situations, hopefully.
spacemunky Posted 29 August 2017 Posted 29 August 2017 I can't say I've been to Adams Park, but I did watch a match from there just over a week ago. Quite enjoyed it
Jattdogg Posted 29 August 2017 Posted 29 August 2017 Would be nice to catch a league 2 hoof ball game with both goals and beer galore. Do wycombe women look like rachel riley or are they more susan boyle like? If susan boyle like then best option is to post in the nottingham forest forum. They will be there by the thousands.
Shev Posted 30 August 2017 Author Posted 30 August 2017 For the purposes of this invite, let's assume every female in Wycombe is more like Rachel.
