After life

But there's got to be more to this than being born and then dying

Why?

Is there more to the ants life before you step on it? The chicken's life before you eat it? The weird fish thing that crawled out of the sea and evolved into mammals or the single called organisms that started it all?

We aren't special, we're just an evolutionary leap ahead of instinctive animals. We have moved beyond evolutionary principles, eat, survive, procreate, die. So we apply meaning to that which has none to find sense in a world that has none. There is no reason for there to be more than just this.

Never apologise on here mate.

It's an interesting topic and worthy of discussion imo

There's no right or wrong answer, as no-one knows.

It's whether you have belief in something or some mechanism or you just believe this is it.

Whatever it maybe, just try and make the most of the time you have

In the same place, the end worries me.

What is specifically about 'the end' that worries you?

I just hope it’s not the advanced big brother scenario where it turns out all your relatives have seen you having a wank. The amount of times I’ve been put off my stroke thinking about that.

I agree with that although I'd never dismiss peoples beliefs, there's no way of knowing for sure. If believing in an afterlife give some people comfort I'm not knocking it.

The end of living and how potentially I'll be nothing for eternity

I don't believe in it, and I certainly do not want it to exist! Living forever just seems like such a chore... just let me rest

I'd agree with that - if people use it as a coping mechanism then that's totally fine. It's when they then use it as an excuse to exercise power over others or do nothing to leave other people in harms way that it becomes a problem.

It's a daunting thing to think about to be sure. But, again...my own thought is making the most of the time that you have right here and now.

Crazy haha never thought people would be so open about a topic started by me

It’s a decent subject and a great topic to talk about. Thanks for posting this.

I think most people avoid talking about it because it makes us feel uncomfortable. Mostly I am bogged down with the normal stresses of life and my escape is predominantly football. Then something happens and you gain perspective again. The death of a relative, a tragedy that touches you, or Ulloa starts a game.

Seriously though, it raises thoughts of the bigger questions in life.....for a short time, until the next time.

You’ve made me think again.

There's a film called 'City of Angels' with Nicolas Cage where angels are wandering all around us in human form but we obviously can't see them.

They sit in our chairs watching us and stuff and it really freaked me out for a while afterwards for exactly the reasons you've described lol

Especially for those, unlike Ryan Giggs, who have had their sister-in-law doing it to them and your brother doesn’t know until then. :o

Potentially yes, potentially no. Who knows?

I don't believe 'that's it' after this life ends. I'm convinced our soul/spirit/consciousness (or whatever you want to call it) moves on.

No idea where to and in what form obviously, and it might even be just one long dream like state.

It's the unknown possibilities of what's next that strangely excites and intrigues me...

Yeah, especially with all this terrorism you start to appreciate every second you have on this planet and puts it into perspective how lucky we are. I grow up in this society and a lot of things in this world concern me & I am young but without arrogance I've always been told I speak a lot of sense. I'm glad I've helped people put stuff into perspective

And this won’t happen will it? These kind of things proclaimed for everyone to see? My babysitter from next door has a dad who is a right big bastard.

That's what I mean. What is eternity?

Something like this apparently.

endless life after death.
"immortal souls destined for eternity"
synonyms: the afterlife, everlasting life, life after death, the life to come, the life hereafter, the hereafter, the world hereafter, the afterworld, the next world, the beyond;
heaven, paradise, nirvana, immortality
"eventually we shall all be in eternity"

I often think about stuff like this as it intrigues me. In terms of afterlife I am unsure.

But there's got to be more to this than being born and then dying. I once saw an interview with George Harrison who said "we've got to find out what we are doing here and where we are going" and it's true.

Life is a strange one.

Why has there got to be more?

I suppose in a way there already is. We are each an infinitesimally tiny part of the evolution process and may or may not pass on DNA for the continuation of life in all its wonderful meaninglessness.

Plus, we happen to belong to a species that over millions of years has developed the ability to consider the meaning or meaninglessness of our existence....and the ability to consider how to enjoy our brief and meaningless existence.

Objectively, each of us has all the significance of the tiniest grain of sand on an infinite beach.

Subjectively, what a wonderful opportunity life is! OK, sometimes it's anything but wonderful - and for some people it is never wonderful. But for most of us, this absurd existence can bring such joy, at least some of the time.

Here's to life, a magnificent, meaningless joke that offers so much and is to be enjoyed to the max! Then each of us is gone forever and soon forgotten, like a permanent sleep....
