After life

Not sure if there's a thread on this. But wondering if anyone believes/doesn't believe that anything happens after death and why you think this?

Posted

I think that it's possible, but unknowable and impossible to be certain.

I also think that belief in an afterlife as it is applied often out in the world is likely responsible for more suffering - past, present and future - in this life than any other ideology.

It's a real strange one. I'm only young but choose to believe in it as dying concerns me so it helps to comfort me to believe in something

I don't believe in one I believe this is my only life so I shouldn't waste it (he types on a football forum where he has made over 16,000 posts) but if there is one, great I'll try to make the best of that one too.

It's really nothing for you worry about young man. Keep your spirit up.

True that. So much easier to persuade people to go out and die for a cause if they believe they're going somewhere better.

Also so much easier to leave behind a world of suffering for forthcoming generations.

All-round abdication of responsibility, in all honesty.

None for me.  My expectation is that being dead is the same as being not born.

C'mon Matt, Cheer up!

I mean, what have you got to lose
You know, you come from nothing, you're going back to nothing
What have you lost? Nothing!

I often think about stuff like this as it intrigues me. In terms of afterlife I am unsure.

But there's got to be more to this than being born and then dying. I once saw an interview with George Harrison who said "we've got to find out what we are doing here and where we are going" and it's true.

Life is a strange one.

Nope, nothing before, and nothing after

This is probably verging into meaning-of-life territory (which means I need a drink) but I would say that the real important thing is the meaning we derive and the things we do, the choices we make, while we're here in this life.

I believe in the after life and Karma.

Generally speaking (not always) I try to be guided by the principle of do good to others and good will come to you (in this life or the next)

It old fashioned terms, heaven and hell I suppose. For those who 'get away with doing bad shit' in this life, I believe they'll get their comeuppance at some stage - and that may well be in the after life.

My belief also means I'm not scared at all of dying - in fact I quite look forward to it in a strange way (because of my current health restrictions/depression)

I also believe that I'll meet again all those who have passed on and I'm quite excited about 'seeing' my grandparents again.

Haha cheers pal I live a happy life and without specifying my age I am still young and have my whole fvcking life to life. Despite this, I've had encounteres before of being in danger and lost a few family members at an even younger age so the after life is an ideology that makes me think.

sorry for everyone having to talk about this as it's a hard topic but just thought it'd be interesting as it's a massive division in society.

I know lots of Christian people. They praise God for trivial things like providing good weather when they are out for the day, and when he’s ‘healed’ them from a cold. And does that then mean when a young child dies of Leukaemia, God (if he exists) loves that child less?

If indeed God does exist, he surely can’t or doesn’t choose to intervene in this life.

The thing that winds me up is that if something goes well, God is good with these people, but if it doesn’t,  it’s all in the greater scheme of things. It’s a win, win.

The creation of the world and God verses The Big Bang is intriguing though. Where does the universe end as well? There can’t be just an end and that’s it. Because what is behind the end. And if it does go on forever what does that mean?

Stop making me think so much and just tell me when Silva is available.

In the same place, the end worries me.
