Loki

Sadly this mischievous bugger died quite suddenly last week. Only 7 years old, from a mystery illness. Very unusual for beagles apparently. I miss those ears dearly.

Hate to tell you mate but your wife and kids have snuck in a second dog while you wernt looking.

it's funny you say that... but it's unrelated.... so this photo of the puppy is from the Breeders house... but how we got here is this......

I was point blank refusing to get a dog.... definitely didn't want one... as a compromise, she signed up to "borrow my dog"... so we look after someone's dog during the day as we work from home and it's a settled environment.... THEN she's snuck this puppy in... so within the space of 6 weeks it's gone from "definitely not getting a dog" to having a puppy AND someone else's bloody dog!

My dog has gone to the vets today, he has a lump to the side just before the start of his tail. Vet says she's never seen anything like it before. The lump doesnt bother him if you touch it, nevertheless vet has given him pain killers. They have said if its cancer they'd possibly have to remove his leg.

He's been on apoquel nearly his whole life (he's comin on for 10), a drug which stops excessive itching due to severe allergies, something we felt we had to do as we'd exhausted all other options, but there are rumours it causes cancer.

The vets have said the cost could be around £15k something we could do but would take us 5 to 10 years to pay off, we have insurance of course but you just know they won't pay out. Anyone had similar with their doggo?

Sorry to hear that. Not similar but my sisters dog experienced the same with extreme allergies.

Not sure how that price is justified for the treatment, Vets really do exploit people.

Was sat next to my mate when I read this ..  and he’s a retired vet.  Can’t remember the details but he said they should be taking a bit of what’s inside the lump and checking it under a microscope (no anaesthetic needed)  ..  can’t remember the name of the procedure. Shouldn’t be giving painkillers if the dog is not showing signs or discomfort. And not a good idea to remove a leg (especially a back leg!) of a 10 year old dog.  And the cost seems very high !

Let me know if you want more detail ..

This is correct, our dog had a lump on his leg (hard lump) they took a sample to test. They should be doing this as a minimum to see if it is cancerous.

They should pay out if it isn't pre-existing? do you know how much cost your cover is for? as in if the operation was £15,000 can they cover up to that amount?

Its £8000, weve decided though that.if it is cancer, we arent going to amputate his back leg and put him through chemo, he's nearly 10 and even then the vet says it would give him 12 months tops. We're going away to Welsh south coast on Saturday, we'll give him a good week and get the tests done after and hope for the best.

Yeah we've had a quote of £1k for x ray and to take sample. We're booked to go Wales with him on Saturday so we're gonna do that as lump isnt bothering him as of yet, get tests when we get back, if its cancer at his age where it is, it sounds like there's no real fix

We have been to the vets for one of our Labradors this week (as well as in February).

Shes had a sore on her ear for 6 months that just doesn’t seem to be recovering. She had antibiotics in March which did little and we were advised since then to keep it clean using sprays and monitor it.

However she’s a Chocolate Bitch and naturally is as nutty as a fruitcake. She now has another sore on the same ear.  We’ve been to the vets again this week who are now taking samples for testing.

Anyone on here seen this or similar before?

This maybe a long shot, but can anyone recommend a B&B or hotel by the coast that takes dogs?

My dog diagnosed with an aggresive form of cancer, the prognosis isn't good and I'd like to take him to the seaside next weekend if its to be his last time.

We normally take him to Filey/Scarborough but everywhere booked up.

Really needs to be within 2/3 hour drive.

Will post in dogs thread also.

Try The Lodge, Old Hunstanton- courtyard rooms are dog friendly. Good walks all along the coast, woodland walks at Sandringham or Snettisham

common/Ken Hill. Dog friendly pubs in most of the villages.

Sorry to hear this mate.  It's always tough with animals.

There's a Pri*CK of a Cavapoo puppy here if you want to take him with you.  Feel free to leave him on the beach.

In Norfolk - had lunch here but really impressed with the place. They make a fuss of dogs there hence the dog package they offer.

George and dragon in Cley next the sea (again in Norfolk) lovely walks where it isn’t too busy where you can spend some precious time with him. Close to Blakeney as well.

I complained a few weeks ago about the cost of a 15 minute visit to the vet and one set of antibiotics. It turns out compared to a late night visit to the emergency vet and 2 prescriptions, the first visit was a bargain!

The pooch had a very funny turn late Friday night. Disorientated, unsteady, rapid abnormal eye movements. Diagnosed as vestibular disease. To do with the nerves in the ear. Apparently very common in mature spaniels. He's 13. And, no actual treatment. It's wait and hope for recovery, which isn't guaranteed. Fortunately, we've seen quite a bit so far.
