People who lean in for a kiss on the cheek make me nervous. Do you just go for the one side or both?

One for blokes and two for girls is what I work towards.

Thing is, Izzy, it doesn't with me - quite the opposite in fact. It releases stress hormones and makes me feel overwhelmingly uncomfortable. I really hate people invading my personal space in that way.

Yeah sorry, I meant just for me not everyone!

You sound like my wife actually - she hates hugging. I've only ever seen her hug me and the kids - not even her Mum, brothers or Dad when he was alive. My parents made the mistake of trying to her hug when they first met her and she made it quite clear it made her feel awkward and told them to back off.

My parents were a bit set aback and 25 years later they still make the mistake of leaning in and then backing off her again - very awkward to watch. You're definitely not on your own mate!

A very good question Walshie..

For the British women I hug on a regular basis (mainly friends of the wife) I tend to go for a kiss on their right cheek only. Seems to be cool most of the time but occasionally there's a clash of foreheads or noses :D

With any European women I hug (mainly clients/work associates) they tend to go for a kiss on both sides and it can vary which side first. I tend to let them take the lead here as they seem to be more natural at it (I'm generalising)

I'm not sure we really know how to do the whole hug and kiss thing properly in this country whereas in France, Spain, Italy etc. they make it look so cool and normal.

I often hug the people next to me when we score, even if I don't know them.

I’m not really a hugger but that’s happened to me a few times.

Sooner hug than shake hands you never know if they just been for a piss or picked up someone else's piss from a contaminated door knob or have just wipe the cold infected snot off their nose.

I speak from experience having a very active nose snot wise.

Call me paranoid if you want

PS I like hugging trees.

You've just made me think of something gross here Davie.

I play golf when I'm fit and healthy and often in a four ball. Most of the blokes will go for at least one piss a round and some up to five of six times if they're getting on a bit and have a weak bladder. Obviously nowhere to then wash your hands on a golf course.

Then at the end of the round it's etiquette for everyone to shake hands on the 18th green. I'm now thinking there's every chance I've got second hand piss from three other guys on my hands and I'll quite often then put my fingers through my hair after I take my cap off.

I feel a bit sick now. Thanks

One of the best ever hugs I had was at Wembley when we beat Palace in the play off final.

I remember it clear as day. The bloke was in his 60's and a complete stranger but we hugged and cried together at the final whistle for at least a minute. I remember looking into his eyes full of tears and we connected at a deep level.

Only football can do this and it was a moment that will live with me forever. It was a beautiful thing...

for me a hug is the pinnacle of me liking you. hugging strangers is a big "no no" for me. i hate it when others hug you without a warning because they catch you off guard, i make sure that people know before i hug them.

Some big greasy bastard (stranger) hugged me when Chris Wood equalised for us against Everton, first game back in the Premier League. Felt disgusting. I could understand if it was something massive like a goal that sealed a title/cup win/relegation escape but this was just a goal and he was so sweaty it actually ruined it a bit for me.

Hugging immediate family is ok, mates (if they absolutely have to or they've received bad news), and women. And dogs, of course.

Yeah good point, I’ve no problem with my dog invading my personal space. So long as he isn’t trying to hump me, which he rarely does.

Hearing stories of greasy sweaty hugs is off putting but don't judge us all by the actions of a few.

If you are going to be part of the hugging community it's important you represent it well, shower every day, bad breath is a no-no and plenty of deodorant to make sure you smell nice.

Also know your audience (Ranieri fails this with his Vardy hug on the front page), some like a one arm hug from the side, some like a pat on the back, some just like a quick half arm in and out and some like the full bear hug with side to side and one foot alternating off the ground.

You get to know with experience and it gets better and better.

It's a no from me

It's not natural

(And I really really hate when I offer my hand for a hand shake and the other person goes in for a hug)

It’s not gay if nobody climaxed.
