Why buy a sub standard player just because a proven goal scorer isn’t available then? I’d sooner buy nobody than spunk 14 million on somebody who isn’t going to play and just sit on the bench picking up his wages. We should only be buying players if they are going to improve the 1st 11. Anything else is a waste of money which we seem to be extremely good at recently with our past signings.

great post but for the highlighted part.

the reality is that it would be nigh on impossible for a club like Leicester to improve on Vardy, but what recent weeks have shown us is we do not have adequate back up for when he is out.

we should definitely spend wisely ( which i think is your point) on a good back up for him, as it seems certain Puel will want to keep going with the one main striker formation

Sounds like Musa Mk II - good record in a shite league... what could go wrong?

Or alternatively Mahrez mkII - complete nobody named after a middle Eastern capital, just be positive

Crespo wasn't bad at all, he's quite fondly remembered by Chelsea fans, if anything.

His goals to games ratio for Chelsea is good. But he made very few appearances for the amount of time he was contracted to Chelsea, and they sent him out on loan twice before releasing him at the end of his deal. He may be remembered fondly there, and there's no doubt he was a superb player, but it would be a stretch to call his time in the Premier League successful.

Looking at the time he spent on the pitch is very black and white. They bought Drogba after his first season and he was always going to be their priority.

Regardless, I never said his stint was successful - I said he wasn't bad and is very fondly remembered, they really liked him there. I just think labelling him a "failure" when I can think of five worse Chelsea strikers in the Abramovich era off the top of my head is incorrect.

We'll have to agree to disagree then.

With the reputation he had when arrived at Chelsea, he'd have been expected to achieve much greater things with them than he did. You're right, Chelsea have had worse strikers (e.g. Kezman or Pizarro). But Crespo was a striker of a certain pedigree who failed to live up to it during that period in his career.

When we're talking about taking risks with signings, Crespo was forced out by Mourinho picking Drogba over him. Chelsea took the risk on a late developer who had just taken the French league by storm with Marseille. Mourinho knew what he was doing and we all know that Drogba has cemented himself as a legend in Chelsea and Premier League history.

It doesn't make Crespo a bad player, he's one of the greats of European football from a particular era. It's just that he failed to live up to that reputation at Chelsea, in my opinion.

Could be as silly as paying £1million for a none league player!

The Vanarama Conference is probably a higher standard than the Qatari Bedouin Homes League Premier Division.

The tweet roughly translated to

'59th goal of the year for #Bounedjah vs #Qatar. The attacker is not expected on the side of #Leicester despite insistent rumors. In #L1, it is uncertain at the moment. #Nice or #OM would be very inspired to take it. The #ArabieSaoudite is ready to offer him a golden bridge...'

Sure this was agent work to drum up interest..
