Big name proven goalscorers are of course readily available and notoriously easy to buy in the January window

Why buy a sub standard player just because a proven goal scorer isn’t available then? I’d sooner buy nobody than spunk 14 million on somebody who isn’t going to play and just sit on the bench picking up his wages. We should only be buying players if they are going to improve the 1st 11. Anything else is a waste of money which we seem to be extremely good at recently with our past signings.

Correct.  We have bought enough sub standard bench warmers to last a lifetime!

Plus we could sign 10 strikers and none of them would score regularly in this team anyway.

5 of them goals down to poor defending/goalkeeping.

I’m sure you can find a vardy highlights video with goals resulting from poor defending

Really? He plays in Qatar for a milk shake league (mind the pun as having a Pub League team in Qatar may get you decapitated!) and he regularly scores against Tanzania and Madagascar.

Jock McScotland from the Highland leagues or a John Smith from the Conference would be a better option!

In 2 sentences, you managed to disparage 5 countries spread over 3 continents. For an uncomfirmed information and on Christmas day. What would you be like when you get your credit card bills!

How much would he cost?

It's been a while since we had a "Leicester special" in plucking a player out of nowhere and turning them into a world beater. Is this going to be the next one of these? Probably not, but I'm not against taking the odd punt on a player provided the fee isn't outrageous, etc. Yes Musa was shit, but Mahrez wasn't too bad eh? Slimani I even think is a good player, we just paid at least twice what he was worth.

But overall I think we should be sticking to the new policy of buying younger players with good technique and high potential. It is extremely unlikely we get relegated this season, so let's use the season to develop more young players. Seeing Hamza play a blinder versus Chelsea was super exciting because he looked like he can become a squad player or better already this season if he plays like that every week.

Anyway, different positions I know, but I was more excited by the two Spanish lads we were linked to. It's not like our strikers are missing 3 or 4 opportunities a week, it's more like we only provide them with 1 or 2 and we are fortunate we have one of the most clinical in the league to stick them away. More creativity in the other forward positions would be a higher priority for me.

Just for the record that's not true: Vardys getting better chances than ever before (higher xG per 90 than in any other PL season) and his shots per 90 is well ahead of every season except 15/16: https://understat.com/team/Leicester/2018 - he genuinely is missing good chances regularly.

Statistics can be misleading though. 88% of people know that :D!

Whilst Vardy definitely has missed more chances this season than he usually would, as a team we aren’t making that many chances. It’s not like our xG is 4 per game but we’re only scoring 1.

He missed big chances against Burnley and Palace and probably some others too. But again it’s not like Chelsea who had two clear 1v1 situations against us and missed both.

I would honestly take a punt if he’s cheap. That goal scoring record is absurd and even though it’s in essentially a non-league division, So was Vardy. He’s just about obscure enough to be a success.

Big risk from a shit league, we have plenty of shite taking up the wage bill, do we need another risk

Yes

Every signing is a risk. Jamie Vardy is consistently excelling in a division that Andriy Shevchenko, Hernan Crespo and Juan Sebastian Veron failed in.

Crespo wasn't bad at all, he's quite fondly remembered by Chelsea fans, if anything.

It’s getting harder to pluck hidden gems as it seems all teams are trying this these days. We are looking for a sub striker, why are people so against the gamble? We aren’t going to be breaking the bank on a well known player for the bench. We already have one of those in Iheanacho.

I prefer a gamble who may end up being special to throwing money at someone who will do a job but we already know is average, such as Gabbiadini
