Tom12345 Posted 8 February 2019 Posted 8 February 2019 https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ben-chilwell-kasper-schmeichel-leicester-2518376 Great to see the progress Chilly has made during the past two seasons and that he is still trying to learn, which he has to before he can ever reach the top. This is especially true when it comes to his decision making, passing and crossing. It seems from the comments in the article that he has a good relationship with Fuchs. This is great to see not only from the perspective of Chilly (showing humbleness and willing to learn from more senior players) but it also shows what a great guy Fuchs is. Fuchs to me is still the better LB because of his defensive abilities and more effective long crosses, but despite losing his place to Chilly, he goes to help him out instead of whinging and whining like many players at other clubs do. In my opinion, he epitomises what the title winning team was about. Simpson, Okazaki, King and others who have left never seemed to have a bad blood against fellow players and the youngsters coming through despite losing their positions. They have kept the tight culture that made us great. Fans wanted many of these older players to leave and move on, but I fear they won’t really know what they are really missing until they are all gone and we become a team of merchaneries one day like many other clubs.

I doubt we’ll be anything like that especially if we stick with Puel. It’s certainly not something that aligns with what the current strategy coming from the board looks like.

Fuchs has been slow for two seasons, but he offers offensive passing that we currently lack throughout the rest of the team. It’s really easy to look at someone getting done for pace and declare them finished. Fuchs’ brain and left foot are still of enormous quality, and if he were a right back he’d be playing every week winning plaudits.

He can’t defend anymore, in 16/17 he was the most dribbler last player iirc. We all saw how easily the Newport winger breezes past him.

Toddybad Posted 9 February 2019 Posted 9 February 2019 In our miracle season Fuchs was the best left back I've seen at the club. Real unexpected quality. Chilwell, after a few shaky moments last season, now looks well on course to be the club's best ever left back, given how good he is at such a young age.

We've had some really good left backs, and although I loved David Nish, I thought Fuchs the best of the bunch in that season. He just seemed to have everyone's number that season. Chilwell is certainly improving fast. If he keeps up this progress he could become our best ever left back, but he still has to improve a few things in his game to earn that mantle. He has plenty of time on his side as long as he keeps working hard and the hype doesn't go to his head.
