Tactics Under Brendan Rodgers - Statman Dave Video

Recommended Posts

I made a few posts about our tactics under Claude Puel, but since Rodgers came in, there's been no need to make any more because plenty of websites and content creators have done a much better job! Because of the type of football Rodgers has us playing, it's raised quite a few eyebrows and got people talking about us.

Here is a fantastic video by Statman Dave that is really worth checking out if you want some more insight into how our team operates under Rodgers and hopefully to give you even more excitement for the future. At the time of writing only Liverpool and Man City have gained more points than us since Rodgers appointment and even more incredibly only Liverpool have scored more goals! Hard to think that possible when seeing some of our performances under the previous manager,

Enjoy!

I used to enjoy the videos of these youtubers before they got all their sponsors and disappeared up their own arses.

I thibk Brendan Rodgers is playing the way Brendan Rodgers has always played. Swansea always drew comparisons to the Barcelona model.

But even in the video, he explains just as many differences as there are similarities. I wouldn't say we are modelling ourselves on Man City at all.

Yep the only negative of the video for me. It's not even that hard to say! (Tielemans)

He also said Vardy was our loan striker! What a doofus! He signed a new contract last year!

Well I have question about tactic.

During ranieri season it has been said Simpson stay back allow mahrez to be free roaming forwards. But after that it been said that attacking fullback need to give freedom for right winger.

Whats this? I didnt get it. 2 different things but look same

If Simpson was staying back and not providing an attacking option it makes it easier for opposition to double up on Mahrez. The left and left winger could double up, or a centre mid can come wide and help double/triple up on him. This happened a lot after the title win, which left us looking a bit clueless at times going forward if we couldn't get Mahrez into the game. If Pereira was in that team, they would have to mark him and Mahrez, meaning they can't double up without over-committing to one side of the pitch, leaving them vulnerable to a diagonal switch of play. Therefore meaning Mahrez would be able to come inside more freely or find more space on the wing. Obviously this is a higher risk, higher reward way of playing that worked because Mendy/Ndidi were sitting deep and could cover (or our now more dynamic midfield three being able to get back and cover).

Worth noting as well that we have more options going forward with Maddison and Tielemans both being incredibly creative, which itself gives our wingers more freedom. Again this, if Mahrez were still here, would give him more space to play as defenders couldn't double up on him without giving Tielemans/Madison acres of space

EDIT: after writing this the thought of having Mahrez in this team now, with Pereira, Chilwell, Madison and Tielemans giving us way more attacking options, is making me frothy

Pretty sure we have him on loan from Arsenal

I definitely remember seeing pictures of him in an Arsenal shirt not so long ago

Bar his pronunciation of Tielemans, I thought it was a good video. Statman Dave is a Man Utd fan but he actually watched us play because most of his analysis is spot on. Mainstream pundits and journos would just reduce us to old pre-2017 cliches.

This new Leicester evolution started nearly 2 years ago and the mainstream press still think we defend deep, relinquish possession and hoof it to Vardy.

Nah that's what I understand but What confuse me is that so many writing about our title win are contributed by the fullback that stay back, allow the winger more freedom to play upfront

With Simpson staying back to defend, Mahrez had the freedom to stay further up the pitch and help spring the counterattack. We struggled in possession, however, because Mahrez did not have the support of an overlapping fullback. That is why we were so good at counterattacking, but so mediocre in possession.

But then the opposition can double him up without Simpson help him. And when he's cut inside, nobody in the wide space. Our attack become narrower and the space become smaller. This is confuse me. What kind of freedom he got by defensive minded fullback behind him

IMO, they are referring to freedom of responsibility, not freedom of space.
