Living wage for Premier League club staff

Premier League clubs have just spent £1.4b on players, and we all know that many prem players are earning more in a week than most of us would hope to earn in a year.

Given that fact, it makes sense to me that all club staff (including catering, cleaners, security) should be being paid a living wage.

4 Premier League clubs (Everton, Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham) are already doing this. I, for one, would like to see LCFC added to that list.

Discuss..... And no I don't work at the club......

Considering the amount of money in the top flight, I'm sure a lot of these clubs could afford the extra wage. It's a sad comparison between the wage the playing staff earn compared to those who work in the club

I know when my friend worked there a couple years ago as a cleaner he (and the rest of them) were on around £8.40 an hour which I believe is around the national living wage? Also just wondering, how does paying the living wage work with agency staff? As they bring in extra cleaners on match days with Unitemps and most of the catering staff are from Compass.

I believe much of the matchday staff are not actually employed by the club though are they? For example the staff in the catering kiosks are employed by the company that they're leased to.

That being said any directly employed staff should absolutely be receiving the living wage. The fact that we are a PL club is irrelevant, even if we were in the championship I'd rather we cut players wages by 1% to ensure everyone behind the scenes received a living wage. It's not much to ask for really.

The club can, and should, insist that any companies in its supply chain pay the living wage.

That some of the people working at the club aren’t directly employed by the club is absolutely no excuse.

I'd love to see Top and execs do more for the staff  (temp/agency included) salary wise. In the grand scheme of things its nothing to them.

Came on here today to check if we do the living wage to the staff.

I work with agencies employing staff on our behalf and a few years ago we started including clauses in our contracts that people we work with pay the living wage so if the club really wanted to they can do it for agency staff too, might take some time to work through the whole system but to hear from the club that they are committed to it would be great.

Particularly shocking when you consider that the likes of Forest Green Rovers do, and have done for a couple of years now.

Top Club. My 'Second team' if such a thing exists.

The one thing I would like to see over the next few years, alongside the stadium redevelopment, is to see contract work removed where possible and us to take control of areas like catering. I understand many of these thing are under long term contracts but as a club looking to step onto the next level with brand new training facilities and stadium expansions, part of that is being a responsible and attentive employer.

It's one thing to have the state of the art equipment and infrastructure, but the match day experience will never improve if the staff aren't properly trained and more importantly motivated to provide said experience. We'll never achieve that with contract worker who'll work there a month and are paid scraps for it.

I understand that contract work is necessary and match day staff is seasonal work, but there's so much the club could do to boost the working conditions and its an important step for a club with a vision such as ours.

Proper wage and training is vital.
