On the whole, it has been an excellent start to Rodgers’ King Power Stadium reign but while the Northern Irishman is at the forefront of the operation, he would be the first to admit that it’s not a one-man job. Rodgers has support in every facet of the game, from coaching and scouting to health and fitness. Here, we take a look at City’s first-team staff. Brendan Rodgers – First-team manager Let’s start with the man himself. After a genetic knee condition ended his playing career before it had truly begun, Rodgers turned to coaching, rising the ranks at Reading before building his reputation as Chelsea’s head youth coach. His management career took him from Watford to Reading to a star-making stint at Swansea. That earned him the big move to Liverpool and almost the Premier League trophy. Silverware was clinched at Celtic, Rodgers winning seven straight domestic trophies in Scotland before joining City, where he has galvanised the squad and fans as the club pushes to break into the elite again. Chris Davies – Assistant manager Rodgers’ trusted right-hand man is actually in his second spell at City. While studying for a degree in sport and exercise science at Loughborough University between 2005 and 2007, Davies worked as a youth coach at Belvoir Drive. First meeting Rodgers at Reading, Davies has been the Northern Irishman’s number two at Swansea, Liverpool, Celtic and now Leicester, and was recently handed media duties for the cup win over Newcastle. Kolo Toure – First-team coach The two-time Premier League winner started his coaching career under Rodgers at Celtic after calling time on an illustrious playing career. As first-team coach, his focus is on the defence and he has recently been providing specialist help for centre-back Caglar Soyuncu. Adam Sadler – First-team coach Sadler has coached around the country, taking roles at Newcastle, Norwich, Plymouth and Manchester City before joining Leicester as a tactical analyst following the club’s promotion to the Premier League. Thrust into a more prominent role under Craig Shakespeare, the Geordie now makes his voice heard on the training pitch. He shared caretaker duties with Mike Stowell after Claude Puel’s departure. Glen Driscoll – First-team fitness coach The third staff member, alongside Davies and Toure, to follow Rodgers from Celtic, Driscoll focuses on maximising performance through physiotherapy and injury prevention. He’s previously been head fitness and performance at Chelsea, Swansea, Liverpool and Celtic. Mike Stowell – First-team goalkeeping coach Wolves’ number one throughout the ‘90s, Stowell joined City in 2005 after hanging up his gloves, and now works with the club’s goalkeepers at senior, Under-23 and Under-18 level. During his long service at the club, he has been caretaker boss on five occasions, winning five, drawing three and losing none of his eight games in charge. Paul McAndrew – Kit manager McAndrew, known to all as Macca, has been the City’s kitman since 1996, accepting the job offer from Martin O’Neill after two years as the club’s coach driver. Responsible for ensuring all of the kit and equipment is in place for matches and training, Macca has not missed a single first-team game in 23 years. Jon Sanders – Player liaison officer Another long-serving staff member, Sanders was formerly the club’s head of media, taking on a role with the Football League before returning as player liaison officer. In his role, Sanders helps new signings integrate into the club and settle in the area, and takes care of the in-house fine system. Dave Rennie – Head physiotherapist Rennie worked for a number of clubs and organisations – including Leicester Tigers, England’s Netball and British Triathlon Association – before joining City in 1999. As part of a PhD, he is currently investigating the effect of pitches on players and potential injuries. Simon Murphy – Senior first-team physiotherapist The man on the pitch when City players go down with injuries, Murphy joined the club from Mansfield in 2014, just before the Championship title was sealed. He is currently studying for a Masters in sport and exercise medicine at Queen Mary University of London. Gary Silk – First-team physiotherapist Following a 10-year professional career that included spells as a right-back for Notts County and Mansfield, Silk studied physiotherapy. He joined City in 2013, first as a masseur, before joining Rennie and Murphy as a physiotherapist in 2016. Reuben Walker – First-team masseur Walker became the club’s first-team masseur in 2017 after completing a qualification in sport massage therapy at Loughborough College. He has previously work for the club’s community programme, as PE teacher at The Lancaster School and as a basketball coach for Leicester Warriors. Dr Ian Patchett – Club doctor Dr Patchett has been working for City since 1992, taking over as the club’s chief medical officer in 2000. He attends the training ground three times a week to go over any medical problems. Paul Balsom – Head of sports science and performance analysis Ensuring City's sports science department is at the cutting edge, Balsom has been in his role since returning to the club in 2011. He also holds the same position at City’s sister club OH Leuven and with the Swedish national team. Matt Reeves – Head of fitness and conditioning Reeves works closely with the coaches and squad, using sports science data to reduce injury occurrence and improve physical performance. His first opportunity at the club came as an intern in 2008, but he moved with Nigel Pearson to Hull before returning to City with the manager in 2011. He was also part of the staff that helped England win the Under-20 World Cup in 2017. Tom Joel – First-team sports scientist Joel analyses first-team training, collecting and managing data before providing feedback to coaches, players and the sports science team. He first arrived at the club in 2011 and was promoted to the first team in 2014. He is perhaps best known for being sent to the stands during the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Atletico Madrid after encroaching into Diego Simeone’s technical area while handing Marc Albrighton a bottle of water. He also works as lead fitness coach for Iceland’s men’s team. Mitch Willis – Strength and power coach Willis works with the squad in the gym, tailoring exercises to the players to increase their strength and speed. He joined the club in 2012, switching sports after working with Leicester Tigers. Chris Edwards – Consultant nutritionist Employed by Pro Athlete Supplementation, Edwards gives nutritional advice to the players based on the body composition data. He also works with the Welsh Rugby Union, Wasps Rugby and Bristol City. Andy Blake – First-team performance analyst With a focus on City’s upcoming opponents, Blake provides reports to staff and gives presentations to the squad to help them better prepare for the next game. He also conducts live analysis, picking out footage to be shown to the players at half-time. He joined City in 2008, having previously travelled around the world working for Hawk-Eye. Matthew Edge – First-team training and performance analyst Edge watches the squad at Belvoir Drive, conducting technical analysis to help hone game-plans, with a focus on set-pieces. He joined City in 2016 after six years at Midlands rivals Aston Villa. Lee Congerton – Head of senior player recruitment Working with Rodgers at Chelsea and Celtic, Congerton moved down from Glasgow to City in May after Eduardo Macia exited for Bordeaux. Congerton works with City’s scouting team to identify targets and liaises with Rodgers on how best to strengthen his squad. Callum Smithson – First-team technical scout Smithson works alongside Congerton, scouting matches to gather statistics and provide insight into transfer targets, producing monthly reports to help the recruitment team compare prospective signings around the world. He has been in the role since 2014. Jose Fontes – First-team and U23 technical scout A former investment banker, Fontes uses his tactical knowledge to identify and profile potential signings for the first team and development squad. He grew up in Singapore and Portugal and has previously worked Leixoes and Boavista. Mladen Sormaz – Head of football analytics Appointed in April, Sormaz is the club’s first head of football analytics, with the role created last November. Formerly of Huddersfield, Sormaz is tasked with using data to provide insight into performance and recruitment.
Nicolo Barella Posted 19 September 2019 Posted 19 September 2019 Weren't we also hiring some big shot scout who got a bunch of good players out of France?
Ric Flair Posted 19 September 2019 Posted 19 September 2019 Driscoll and Reeves jobs seem a little conflicting do they not? I'm sure they work in unison maybe with one more hands on on the pitches and the other providing all the intel on what should be happening?
brucey Posted 19 September 2019 Posted 19 September 2019 If anyone is really, really bored, I found this on YouTube the other day.

Seems like Driscoll would be more involved with what is happening with players currently and helping them through it (like how we kept Vardy going with his groin injury) Where as Reeves could be more involved with helping players against that kind of injury reoccurring (once Vardy was fit, what can he do to stop his groin injury happening again) Definitely imagine there is a lot of overlap between the two

Stadt Posted 19 September 2019 Posted 19 September 2019 Matt Reeves and Dave Rennie were in the Soar Point the night we won the league, I sort of leapt on them horizontally when Hazard’s goal went and they caught me thankfully

When Driscoll joined I worried Matt might leave, but he’s one of the most well respected fitness coaches around and part of the St. George’s park set up so I’d imagine the club want to keep him around!

Surprising as Rodgers had one at Liverpool and the media made a big deal of it. Steve Peters was his name. Only remember it from the year they were chasing the title however.
Poznan34 Posted 19 September 2019 Posted 19 September 2019 They've missed off Jack Lyons, whom Rodgers brought from Celtic to do opposition analysis:

mozartfox Posted 19 September 2019 Posted 19 September 2019 No mention of Chris Sutton Strap-on, the Club's new Major Bell-end. He seemed to follow BR down from Celtic Park?
