Here's a retro clip from 1985, a perfect example of not needing so-called "quality" for it to be exciting,

Two things stand out: the tackles flying in, with no one rolling around playacting.   And the noise of a 1980's Old Firm game.   This one's at Ibrox, but it was the same at Parkhead.

That's a great clip. Really good find. 👍

That was a terrible Rangers side, they finished 5th.

Jock Wallace started the season and Souness started the next.

Back in those days Ibrox was possibly the best stadium in the UK, their chairman David Holmes did really well off the park and set them up for the Souness era.

Parkhead took years to catch up, and even now I think it takes 2nd place to Ibrox.

I'd rate Ibrox as the best stadium in the UK....pains me to say that, but i think it is.

Once the fans get going, best atmosphere In Scotland, and trust me it pains me to say that as well.

The grounds are a bit more similar these days, with them being all seater.   But in the 1980's you had a great contrast.

Ibrox was the modern, mostly all seater stadium, but still 9000 or so terraced on the Main Stand paddock.    Even Celtic fans admitted it was excellent.

Parkhead was the complete opposite, being covered terracing on 3 sides/ends, and just 9000 or so seats in their main stand.  It felt like something out of the 1930's, especially with the old mean Barrowfield estate just behind the West terrace.

But they both had fantastic atmospheres - as also did games at Hampden Park, for that matter    I went to quite a few Old Firm games in the 1980's and was lucky enough to savour some amazing games.   Really exciting matches, but also noise off the scale decibel-wise.

In those days, Parkhead held 67,000 and Rangers would take up to 23,000 away fans.   Just thinking about that now is amazing.   Even if the grounds were big enough, no one would allow anyone to take 23,000 away fans to any game!     And in the early 80's, getting tickets was easy.   You just pitched up and bought a ticket the day before, or squeezed through the turnstile with someone on the day.   It was chaos tbh, and I sometimes wondered how Glasgow stayed in one piece.   Drinking around the bars before and after those games .... a great experience!

Parkhead in the 80's and 90's following Aberdeen was the best away game.

It helped that we got plenty of wins.

Covered terracing, pay at the gate.

The stadium would be circa 80% full and the official attendance was 30k.

The Celtic board were at it.

Very little policing, as soon  as you came out of the away end it was every man for themselves.

You could tell who was who, Celtic fans in double denim and a green and white scarf, Aberdeen fans all dressed up and no colours 😄. The walk to Queen St was interesting.

Ibrox was get off the bus in the away end car park, take your seat, get back on the bus and go home. Much more intimidating. Mixing outside the Broomloan after the game was running the gauntlet.

To be fair, that was every game across the UK in the 80's.

I’m sure I read on FT that Kasper left us and Tierney wouldn’t sign for us because of their dislike of Rodgers or did Imagine that?

The same Kasper who plays for Rodgers now though ?

Be odd of true unless they made up .

I don't think Kasper has ever said he dislikes Rodgers.

I think a lot was made out that he stopped Kasper's successive run of games for Danny Fvcking Ward. Not sure Kasper has ever been vocal about it.

I would imagine he wouldn't have gone anywhere near Celtic if he didn't like Rodgers.

Although they might be a decent team, it's a bit ridiculous that Celtic are currently 18 points ahead of Rangers (currently are 1-0 up against Ross County) - despite Rangers having a game-in-hand.

Rangers have won 3 away games out of 11.

Even Ross County have won the same I understand.

Probably explains why!

Looked absolutely baltic in Dingwall today.

Doff my cap to the 2 or 3 players with short sleeve shirts only.

With that and the pitch, felt a bit old school.

Rangers Women won 14-0. It's not uncommon to see double figure scored in that league. Not a good look for the league.

Rangers walkout

Reminds me of another club.

Seeing the highlights not sure the rest of the crowd really approved of them going.

Wasn't showing much loyalty by leaving early..
