Matt Targett

1 wasn't and hasn't been a bench player all year, so that point is irrelevant currently. £23mill on a future prospect and a damn good squad player is good business.

Ideally we're getting a new right winger this transfer window so he will be a bench player.

Can't believe an article from the Daily Star has caused so much discussion, they're not exactly known for being a trusted source!

I doubt we're after Targett. Looks like Tagliafico and Gosens are our top targets, based on what more informed journalists like Fabrizio Romano and Rob Tanner have said.

The other player we'd been closely linked with is Trincao so there's no doubt we're looking for high quality players who will improve the squad.

That may well be true, but that fully ignores the first season contribution in 40 games, giving 8 goals and 5 assists plus his pressing off the ball which isn't recorded statistically.  He may well go to be an impact player, but he has been a decent signing and given a decent contribution to getting to the europa league.

Personally thought we won despite perez's performances first half of the season not because of them, 4 goals 1 assist in the first 19 games, 3 of them coming against one opponent who we were already beating wasnt anything impressive. Rest of the contributions came in the second half of the season mostly against west ham and newcastle. It feels like people are just looking at his stats and instead of how he contributed in each game and no his pressing wasnt important enough to make up for the lack of goal threat.

If you take off the 6 points he helped get in those 2 games you mentioned, we finish 7th without Europe.

His pressing and link up with Ricardo were a big factor in our play being successful early on.

Again ricardo only ended the season with 3 goals 2 assists, considering how good he is that's not a stellar return, if this perez ricardo linkup was as good as people on here say it was then surely perez would have played pereira into situations he can assist from more often. What i saw this season was perez passing to pereira because he's relatively ineffective out wide so he was relying on pereira to do the majority of the work.

And arguing that perez won us certain points is useless because you never know what a different player might have done in his situation, for every opening goal vs newcastle there's an opposing performance like the wolves one on opening day where we might have won with a player capable of holding onto the ball.

True.

I think that we should all agree not to post on this thread anymore and then it will sink down the page and quietly go away.

Imagine saying that 10 years ago! It's amazing how far we have come in my opinion.

Are we not allowed to judge signings before they play for us now?

No, remember if you don't actively support every decision the club makes you aren't a proper fan.

The Congerton debate has been done to death but absolutely nothing about his track record suggests that he should've gotten such a big role here. It will take a lot to change my mind on that.
