Jordan Henderson being second makes a mockery of the whole thing. I don't remember Wes Morgan being nominated because he lifted the trophy? Was always going to do well with a public vote though.

Just speculation but I don't know whether Morgan playing internationally for Jamaica might have disqualified him. Was Vardy nominated at the time? I remember Leicester/Ranieri winning team/coach of the year prizes.

Maybe, Jamie Vardy was nominated but came 9th. And yes we won Team of the year, and Ranieri won coach of the year. Got no problem with Liverpool and Klopp winning awards.

I can understand the Henderson nomination. I'm a little surprised he finished second but I can understand it. That being said for me the team of the year and coach of the year should have gone to the Exeter Chiefs. Their achievements were much better than one of the big teams spending their way to a premier league title.

I think 2nd and 3rd were helped by two of the main contenders acting like bellends in the run up. There was only 3 serious contenders, Hamilton, O'Sullivan and Fury. Henderson wasn't going to get enough support outside Liverpool fans and his nomination was for weak reasons, Doyle isn't well known enough, but her story being told would have meant she picked up votes, whilst I'm still not sure why Broad was nominated even after watching the show. Once Fury started doing his Trump impression and tried to make out he didn't need it so when he did eventually lose he could point out he never wanted it, he was out. O'Sullivan has spent the last few weeks mouthing off about Hamilton rather than praising the other nominees, and his behaviour in the recent snooker tournaments won't have won him many votes either. Look at Hamilton, first thing he did was praise his fellow nominees, not disrespect them. So with Fury and O'Sullivan out the running it was always going to be Hamilton with 2 of the other 3 behind him.

Picked up his 500th Test wicket in the summer. But if there was going to be a cricketer it should have been Anderson, who picked up hid 600th and became the first fast bowler in history to reach that milestone in the process.

Its not a lifetime achievement award. OK if you've broke a ton of records on the way to actually winning something, like Hamilton had fair enough, but it shouldn't solely be on the fact you happened to reach that goal this year. If Broad coupled it with something else, like a title, than OK, but he didn't.

Yeah, I completely agree! He did well enough this summer but it usually takes something really special for a cricketer to win it (Stokes last year or Flintoff in '05).

Was just looking it up and there have been four cyclists who've won it since 2008. Some record for that sport.

Broad did perform really well throughout the summer to be fair to him, albeit it was only 5 or 6 games lol , but I agree you shouldn't get nominated for reaching milestones. Same with Ronnie really, won  1 tournament which happened to be the world championship, whereas Judd Trump finished the year comfortably world number 1, won lots of titles (but none of the main ones)

Its been a quiet year though, and difficult to think of others who should have been nominated.

Yeah didn't think Cavendish deserved it when he won it. Showed how unpopular Frome was, 4 time Tour winner, yet the only one who didn't win this.

Tbf Ronnie passed Hendry's ranking titles record and won the world title, so probably just edged in. I remember when the world champion used to get nominated every year, until they probably realised that it was Brit pretty much every year, and someone has to win it, so its hardly a stand out achievement for a Brit to be World Snooker Champ.

I think Hamilton, Fury, O'Sullivan and Doyle were worthy nominations. Henderson just happened to be captain of the champions, so that's a no from me. Theres more reason to nominate Vardy if we're talking personal sports achievement. Broad I've already mentioned.

Jonathan Rea would have been worth a nomination. World Champion for a 6th time in a row, and that's more than anyone else too. So broke records and won something.

I had to google who Rea was and that's part of the problem I guess, but that achievement definitely deserves recognising. I think if done properly SPOTY should introduce sportsmen/women and their achievements that people wouldn't necessarily know about, even if they'd never win a public vote.

I saw a bit of the usual "the BBC are anti-women claims" from some on twitter which obviously is over the top as always, but I do think there could've been a place for Lucy Bronze.

I had to Google Hollie Doyle but doesn't take away her achievements. Yeah the less known sports will struggle. I think Adam Peaty has been criminally under voted over the last few years for this. He's been a phenomenon in his sport, almost untouchable.

Lucy Bronze is a decent shout, I think the world player of the year award came after the nominations though, do wouldn't have been counted in the thinking. I didn't really agree on Henderson getting the nod, and I think outside world cup or euro years its harder to justify footballers unless they do something unique like Vardy back in 2015.

Lewis Hamilton is neither a sportsman or a personality.

Like to see you do his training regime or drive that car.

And the personality part of the name of this award has been explained to death, if you don't know it just means person then there's no hope.

Just an opinion, like.

No hope eh!

Well no its no opinion, its just wrong lol

When I went to school the sports period usually meant Football, Cricket, Gymnastics, Athletics etc.

We even had a day when the lads played Netball & Hockey & the girls played Football & Cricket, which with hindsight was years ahead of its time & a very eventful day.

Never at any stage was I made to get into a high powered motor & drive round & round & round at neckbraking speed.

Neither was I encouraged to eff off to Monaco if I ever became super rich to avoid paying tax.

Still, he speaks up for minority causes so he probably deserves it 😎

You also probably didn't pick up skis, or a archery equipment, or a gun, or a bobsleigh, or golf clubs, but they are all still sports.

You say it yourself, he drives that car at neck breaking speed, he has to be incredibly fit and skillful just to keep the car on the track.

Personally, I wouldn’t fit in the car.

He’s achieved great things and will most likely go on to be F1s greatest ever driver. To think they lose up to 4KGs in weight during a race is insane. It’s bit like they’re big units to begin with. It’s a skill to drive the car, however the attention span and endurance required is on another level. The cars are also tweaked through rigorous testing, so yes he has the best car l but he’s helped define it.

By the way, F1 is as dull as dishwater, not a fan at all.

What a load of nonsense. Go on then, why do you hate Hamilton?

Because of the BLM stuff or because he apparently did Formula 1 in PE?
