All good points @Saxondale, @HighPeakFox and @Paninistickers- I think if you were a one off visitor to Filbert St you'd think it was half built, like a much smaller version of Elland Road or St James Park.

As I said, it was where hundreds of thousands of us first watched Leicester and built memories from, it was our ground for 111 years so a significant part of our history but with other teams moving of a similar size it was going to stand out. The only ground of a likeness currently is probably Loftus Road which isn't any different to how it was 25 years ago and QPR haven't done anything significant in that time.

Still, plenty of great times and a shame I never got to use the terraces.

They were great, if slightly scary until full grown and a bit more experienced at knowing where not to stand. I ended up preferring the terraces beneath the West Stand

Just to be clear ...

Some of the football we've watched over the last 5 years has been absolutely amazing, and the facilities at the KP are much better than they ever were at Filbert Street.

But comparing the watching of football from standing in a packed Spion Kop, to sitting at the KP ... is like comparing having sex, to watching pornography.

No comparison.

You really can’t beat standing a metre from the edge of the pitch where you could hear the players and see the sweat dropping off them.

KP is like sex with a condom can still be great but bareback is the natural way to do it.

He explained in an interview once that he was born and bred in cambridge (I think) and a family member used to take him to the occasional city.match as a kid.

People assumed from this he was a 'fan' ....whereas I think your explanation is more likely. He was an ATV / Central West man through and through. West Mids was his beat.

That said, his ATV colleague Tony Francis was a proper City fan. As was central sports reporters Steve Lambden and Dennis forgot his surname....both City.men too.

Steve Lambden was a Derby fan. Dennis Coath.

As a kid in the sixties I used to cling to the railings at the corner of the Popular Side and Filbert Street End. Great view above the adults standing along side but occasionally had to hang on for dear life when my legs got swept away in the excitement of a human wave after a City goal. Also remember walking up to the Kop end at halftime if City were kicking that way in the second half. Great memories!

Glad you mentioned that I was starting to think I’d dreamt it as I’d never heard anyone else say it.

Are there any pictures from inside the concourses and the main stand from Filbert Street?

Can’t find a picture I had but the walkway/concourse at the back of the upper level of the Double Decker was incredibly tight and I’m not sure you would even get a safety certificate these days

Would be great if anyone had a picture of the entrance to the Double Decker and the steep steps up to the upper concorse!!!

Slightly off topic, but I love this picture of the Kop pens.

Spiked fence at the front to stop pitch invastions.

Double spiked fence to prevent movement between the pens.

Metal grill going right to the roof to stop missiles being thrown between pens.

Football in the late 70's/80's.   Great stuff!

sort of set up that was largely responsible for the Hillsborough Disaster trapping fans in the stands.

I sat in the orange seats of the North Stand in the last block before the corner where it turned into the Supporters Club section.

It's strange but I've dreamt about being at Filbert Street several times over the last few months and always being massively disappointed when I wake up. Don't know if it's withdrawal symptoms from missing going to matches but it's becoming a recurring theme.

Got loads of photos from after the last match against Spurs when we were on the pitch. Might put them up some time, people might be able to pick themselves out.

We really need a central place where these photos can be uploaded to!!   When you search Filbert St within google the same 50 or so photos appear every time!

Rare photos like steps into stands and old changing rooms need to be cherished stored where those of us who need a Filbo fix can go

and gander!

I'd imagine Mick Bates who built the Filbert street model and is admin on Bentley's might have a good few photos . @hackneyfox

Cant remember what the hospitality area was called that was attached to the main stand!!

One match I had hospitality tickets and walked up the stairs where around 100 people were sitting having food before the game!

There was a thin passage that went from this hospitality area, this was built directly over the players entrance!

This passage was 50 feet long and took you right into the Directors Box Seating area!!

Me and my friend sat in the Directors box right up until kick off, then we got kicked out and sent to our original seats in the main stand!

Another little secret passage that not many people knew of!
