It is proper weird. Every time we play them, home or away, they sing it.

Very strange when they sing this. It has no relevance to them and they did the same to macheeneh.

They even hired their current manager while the last bloke was still in the job.

What do we mean by the term: “Rivals”

If it’s the teams that are closest to us in terms of ability and could stop us achieving our objectives then it’s probably: Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham and Everton.

If it’s who is geographically closest and clubs that we’re likely to have to compete with for fans and (youth) players then Forest would be top with Derby and Coventry a little way behind.

But .... I think what people really mean by the term ‘rival’ is “ ..who do I want to beat most?” A subjective question really, but one that supporters from teams like Derby and Forest cling to out of desperation for some self affirmation as fans.

Personally the team I want to beat most is Man Utd because I hate that club passionately. Then perhaps Spurs because it amuses me that they can’t win anything, but neither are “rivals” in the truest sense. I still don’t want Forest and Derby near us though and am very happy to see them rot in the lower leagues.

Forest and Derby would very much come into the equation if they were in the same division as us. Then I’d probably be quite keen for us to maintain our status as the biggest club in the East Midlands (which is in, no doubt, on recent performances).

It’s a funny term supporters use is: “Rival”. Forest fans, for example, would be quite correct in stating that: “we aren’t their rivals” - because we’re not. If they were in our league though then geographically and practically they would be our rivals no matter what we felt individually as fans.

It's beyond me how any Leicester fan could put Tottenham, Chelsea or Villa above Cov.

I don’t find it hard to understand at all really. It’s circumstantial

It’s just the difference between a practical rivalry and a personal one.  The Coventry one will probably still be more enduring.

In the same way that 7/8/9 years ago Hull would have been considered a rival?

Rivals to me will always mean local.

Chav, sheep and trent trash all 100%.

Possibly a bit more of a mathematical split if they are playing on the same day but it always feels like 100% each to me. 33% for any of them just seems much too low.

But we were not long ago, in the grand scheme of things. Coventry's ground (when they actually play there) is geographically the closest to our's and they genuinely hate us.

Yeah, I consider Forest our chief rivals honestly and Derby and Coventry secondary and yes that fits my side of the county.

It is bizarre. They have a team that has been touted by some as one of the best ever and they're singing about a manager who we sacked a few years ago. It's not like they can really have any moral highground over the treatment of managers either. It's weird because I've lived in Manchester and had mostly good encounters with Man City fans.

A big reason why we don't have such an out-and-out rivalry is that the city of Leicester is situated right in the middle of Leicestershire, meaning that there isn't another city that close to us. I'm from Wigston and I never met any Derby, Forest or Cov fans growing up, whereas if you are a Forest fan from Long Eaton, Heanor, Ilkeston etc. then you will definitely grow up meeting Derby fans.

When in the same division as Forest, Derby and Coventry I used to get nervous about playing them because it was bigger than just getting 3 points, it’s felt like a war, a real rivalry!

But if we played them now of course I would have that burning desire to win, I think I’ll feel so chilled out tho with how far we have progressed.

Right now I feel the same way as I used to when playing the local teams like I do now when playing against Spurs, Chelsea and Man U! It’s amazing how far we’ve progressed and I hope it remains like this!!

I’m from the south of the county and I’m not sure I’ve ever even met a Coventry fan

Top flight titles

Leicester - 1

Coventry - 0

Domestic cups

Leicester - 5

Coventry - 1

Seasons in the top-flight

Leicester - 53

Coventry - 34

to me, it just feels like a pointless rivalry because we stand to gain nothing from ‘competing’ with a club we out perform on literally every single metric

Random chelsea fan here, sat in Gatwick spoons waiting for my flight to portugal, not confident, but who knows.

Cant say i post on other clubs forums, but this thread got my interest and with another 2 hours to kill.. hope you dont mind me commenting.

Leicesters a strange one with Chelsea, fact you get referenced in a popular song of us ours, which is really only down to the original 'we hate nottingham forest, we hate arsenaltoo (and leicester)'.. that last bit was the only bit.of the original that remained.

Apart from that, a couple of Leicester games stand out.. 15th April 89 is the main one, if we won we were div 2 champs, when the news started coming through we started cheering, then as news kept coming in, it got very quiet.  Crazy but dont even remember the score, think it was 1-1.  Ive still got your local paper with the '10,000 chelsea fans' front page.

The other was the Erland Johnson cup game, that is more from your side, but still stands out.

Main reason i wanted to add my bit is something said about spurs.  Theres a reason ALL london clubs hate spurs and you hit on it.  All our clubs have idiots as fans, whether wannabe hoolies, the real deal old school types or bandwagon jumping glory fans.  Spurs are unique though, any london derby can have trouble, general rule is it is groups of lads and men acting up, if a fella is with his kid, hes left alone.  Not with spurs though, everyone is fair game to them, you bring a young kid in a chelsea/arsenal/west ham shirt there and they will go for you.. utter scum, ask any fan of any london club.  Theres a youtube video of a big mob of them at wembley park tube, starting on an older couple dressed in blue, with bobble hats, flags, the lot.. you know the type, didnt stop them.  One young lad on his own tries to stop them, and they pile into him.. talking men in their 40s.  Hate them, goes beyond rivalry.

Another post was about modern fans and arsenal tv.  Im older, in my 50s,ive supported chelsea since i was a kid as from the area and remember when it was a family club, you were on first name terms with the stewards on the club coaches, the box office staff and when half the employees were related.  Im embarrassed when i see the youtube channels and tbe melons now associated with our clubs.

I dont consider you rivals, same way i dont consider man city rivals, and we have a lot more history with them.  When you won the title we were backing you.  There really was no way on earth that spurs were winning that game against chelsea, just wasnt happening.

Just on a personal note, ive never liked forest because i once got a kicking there, in the subway from the coach sstation to that shopping centre.. 1986, i was 18 and like an idiot wearing one of those old chelses ski hats😂.

Anyway, thats killed 20 minutes.  Biggest ball ache in the world going to the cl final, ridiculous amount of paperwork, forms and pcr tests, will forget all that should we win, but not confident without a goalscorer.

All the best.

Ps.. cant help but like vardy, like watching one of your mates get a game.

We fully understand the thing about Spurs fans after an incident in the '99 League Cup final at Wembley involving one of them punching a woman in the face and terrorising her young daughter. It kicked off as you can imagine with said mother and child being taken out across the old speedway track down at the front. It was all caught on camera and the assailant served time I believe. It hasn't been forgotten. It was the match that many of our players sold their ticket allocation onto London touts with most ending up in the hands of Spurs fans. Very nasty day with the match and result secondary. The repercussions went on for months after that and have simmered since.
