We have a team that can finish anywhere from 3rd to 8th depending on injuries and what others do.

Not only do we have a lot of players out injured (again), we also seem to have a lot of players who’ve not recovered fully (certainly form wise) from injuries.

Maddison, Ndidi, Vardy, Barnes, Ricardo, who knows what impact injuries have had. Clearly Ricardo isn’t back to what he was yet, and Ndidi doesn’t seem close to the destroyer we had before his injuries, ditto Maddison.

Ndidi is a weird one, very much like Soyuncu that in 2021 they either play very very well, MOTM performances or they are hideous. There's no in between which is very strange, especially for Ndidi who's base level is usually well above average each game.

I can take the stick I’m getting. Not sure I can take the denial. So those of you posting so far think 4th or 5th is still on then? Ok then.

Well for my part I’m only taking issue with you seemingly saying 4th or 5th is impossible. Clearly it isn’t. Doesn’t mean I think it’s necessarily likely, although I do think it’s far too early to have any real sense of how food any team actually is. Including us.

Anywhere from 1st to 20th, I’d say, although I’d have to admit that some of those places are less likely than others.

I mean, yeah if we lose like 17 players to injury. But if we don’t we aren't finishing that low.

I've already highlighted multiple times why, and people seem to ignore it.

He doesn't like playing in a 2 in midfield, which Rodgers keeps trying with Tielemans.

Just like under Puel, with Mendy, Ndidi is a worse player when he has somebody next to him.

Rodgers is trying to turn him into something he isn't.

It's worrying his comments about Soumare too, who he has said that he wants to make him more of an attacking threat.

I think that's three times in the last 6 league games that we have conceeded four goals (Newcastle H 2-4, Spurs H 2-4, West Ham A 1-4) and all three of those were shocking performances. I was hoping Brendan would play a few more of the new signings given this form but,  he seems very reliant on his so called tried and trusted formation and players. My Liverpool mate said he is simply not flexible and wouldn't change his beliefs. I think that is showing at the moment. His formation doesn't work in certain games and we really lack a leader with no Johnny Evans on the pitch.

As to the season, we had a great season last year with the FA Cup. I'm hoping for top 6 but it may be a push so I'd be happy with top half and a bit of a rebuild with some of the new players. We need to toughen up, that is my main worry

You've put something on the table, But the same questions come also from last season because Major players, still struggling from injury problems, though playing & ones out for awhile  ..

What actual Team would you select....??  Our Quality Base hass improved, but only to put us in competition for Top 6....

Thee is still a Chasm to Close so we can continually compete in top 6. Spurs, Arsenal,Everton even W.Ham, could still delve deeper financially than  us..

again Which players would you select over a 6-10 game period...

After fifty years of watching the buggers, I’d never be that confident!

I'm not revising any expectations based on one game at a close rival. We have an entire back four missing through injury and two stupid errors in possession cost us two goals. Terrible to watch and even worse when the commentator clearly has a soft spot for the team he's covering, but this is still our strongest squad and we'll have better days.

I understand your sentiments but as others have said, it is only one game and you cannot make judgements based on a game in which we were set up incorrectly from the outset which ended up with us having 10 men further limiting our options.

Just sit back and relax and enjoy the season.  Your original post does come across as fairy negative tbf.

See how Norwich goes and then perhaps reassess.

Last night we were lasagna (suspended in deep freeze)... while West Ham were a Minestrone.

Are our defensive injuries even that lengthy? Forgive me if I’m wrong here but aren’t we expecting everyone apart from Fofana back after the international break?

2 games is a really small sample size to be making any kind of changes to our expectations, whatever they are. I don’t think you can predict any clubs fortunes at this point!

The amount of pessimism after a single loss is outstanding. 4th would be overachieving, but 5th/6th can be a real target.

My predication is what I had at start of season, I havent changed it based on result, just in case anyone thought it was a reaction.

‘Kindness’ eh?

Well aren’t I the lucky one.

Now I’m wondering what on earth you posted in response to an extremely innocuous post that was so unkind you felt a need to remove it.

Evans could be out for some time yet, ditto Justin.

It wasn’t actually bad at all and not a response to you but rather a comment on how so many people who replied to my thread clearly hadn’t read or understood what I wrote. I just didn’t want to add to some of the reactiveness by being reactive myself.

And then you were reactive to what you projected onto a blank post! That’s Foxestalk for you! 😂

James Justin will still be a few months away and who knows how long he'll take to be fully back to his best. The same can be said for Evans who its very much unclear how he'll be. Castagne hopefully will be primed to go and Vestergaard too, but it's a bit of a concern at the minute.

Ah yes forgot about JJ. Definitely concerning but given how well we coped at the front end of last season with countless injuries, personally I still feel confident that we can still play at a high level. This time last year we were all feeling pretty pessimistic about the injury situation and it worked out okay in the end!

Of course this year teams are probably stronger, but after two games it’s hard to gauge how consistent West Ham, Villa and the like will be. Going to be a ride for sure...

We've played two stubborn as fook teams one of which has our number and has more points than anyone else in 2021. Lets see where we are in 10 games time.

Can’t believe we’ve spent all summer taking the piss out of arsenal fans just to have a meltdown like one of them as soon as we lose a game. We honestly seem to have one of the most fickle fan bases.

Agreed , be positive ,we will still finish top 4 ,2 games played and some fans are panicking I seriously dont understand  Keep the faith

Fair questions fuchsntf.

I think the form from February last year in the league and Europa was increasingly dodgy and inconsistent. This was offset by decent performances in the FA Cup, particularly the Manchester Utf quarter final. Brendan was forced to bring in Kelechi due to injury and that paid off: but I'm sure he wouldn't have done this if Vardy and Barnes had stayed fit.

I would bring in Soumare for 6/10 games and get him up to speed in the Premiership. He should add some bite. I'd play Ryan Bertrand also (no brainer for me) when he returns. I'd give Patson Daka a run of games, and starting, he looks ready and is an unknown quantity for the opposition . Playing an isolated Vardy away from home has not worked half the time. Cut it how you like, Brendan has a religious belief against 4-4-2, so maybe 3-5-2 is the way and not 4-2-3-1 with our current defensive issues.
