We looked great when Vardy had Nacho next to him last season but we seem to just plug along with this ineffective system.

The amount of passes across the backline was actually embarrassing last night, it goes beyond being patient.

I’ve never expected 4th or 5th in any case.

Based on the squad (without injuries) the manager and the set up I think 5th is where most people would anticipate us finishing.

Obviously based on historic stuff we aren’t a 5th place team but currently, I think we are.

I think we have to face, with perhaps a touch of humour for sanity, that expectations of finishing the league in fourth or fifth is too much to expect with the kind of defensive injury crisis we have currently at our club. Having six defenders out changes everything. It’s not just the loss of an £80m+ player in Fofana who adds so much. It’s not just the others. It’s the change in dynamics. We simply can’t play out with the same confidence. All of this is going to cost us points. The question is how many.
I also happen to think that starting Vardy in the lone striker role will also cost us points. He’s our legend but he no longer possesses enough of his old strengths to warrant the lone striker role. The goal against Wolves masks the problem. He’s missing more chances than he used to, and more frequently being outrun and out muscled. This could be a mid-table season. Hopefully we get strong again defensively towards the business end of the Europa League. We’d still be missing Fofana though who contributes so much. Time to downgrade expectations. Mostly because of pure misfortune.

As Claudio would say let's get to 40 points and then everything is a bonus, we have some very entitled fans on this Forum and expectations are high but I'm happy to see us hopefully play some good football and stay in the Premier. After supporting for over 55 years and with a Premier title and F A Cup 🏆 we have exceeded any expectations any of us could have had.

Didn't realise all 6 were out long term....

I think if we are to have any chance of having a decent season we need to drop Maddison permanently. We cannot afford such a luxury off form player when we are getting bullied in most games.

4-3-3 with Soumare, Tielemans and Ndidi in the middle.

I'm taking my ball and not coming back until everyone admits that we're rubbish because we lost 1 match and all our players are rubbish and the best ones are injured and we're not going to win every match and Brendan needs to sign loads of new players and everyone else is better than us and and and (basically how this thread started) 😆😆

Fer Nino has a lot to answer for the ****ing psychotic ****. That totally unnecessary scissor on Wes has had such a dramatic effect on our line up, our morale and our approach. In a ****ing friendly too.

I know last night was bad but Jesus this already! Close thread

My original post simply suggesting we modify expectations based on an severe defensive injury crisis is not as shrill as this kind of reaction to it.

What an excellent straw man you’ve constructed! 👏🏼
Nothing to do with what I actually wrote though…

That moment changed our season IMO.

I had already modified my expectations...started a thread on where we'd finish in the league and stated all the points you've made. Chill buddy....what will be will be....yes you're right we're seriously depleted at the back but ironically last night had nothing to do with Amartey.....loads of players were crap.

To be fair, it seems a lot of people haven't bothered to read@SydenhamFox actual post. There's no throwing any toys out of the pram, he merely points out that the defensive injuries are likely to drastically impact on our progress this season - that seems a pretty rational summation to me and last night's performance is Exhibit A. Nothing entitled or childish about that.

Thank you. The reactions have made me realise what an irrational reactive bunch the great majority of posters are.

I already think this season will be tougher regardless of how we started, west ham are now a very strong team, everton and spurs are potential teams to be fighting for 5th-8th as well which is where I expect us to finish.

Top 4 locked down now, the two manchesters, liverpool and man city will just be too strong.

What about Chelsea! 😳Oh I see u out Man City down twice.

Small reminder that in the last 3 months we've won two trophies and have seen essentially our entire defence pick up some sort of injury.

After 2 games it is far too early to over react and reassess, after all Man United got battered (6-1?) early on last season against Spurs and it wasn't a barometer for how their seasons would go. Depending on how long Evans and/or Vestegard are out for we may have to reassess expectations.

However, there is a concerning pattern of games like this over the last couple of seasons where you can tell after about 5 minutes whether or not we're going to be any good that day, sloppy passes, loose touches and slow laboured build up, all of which were on show last night. It's also concerning that if we as fans can see this after 5 minutes then so must the coaching staff and the players, yet I can't think of many occasions where we have picked it up and turned it around.

Vardy and Nacho meant three at the back which led to dropping points in the following games at end of last season; Man City (h), West Ham (a), Burnley (a), Saints (a), Newcastle (h) and Spurs (h)

Totally agree. The Fofana injury has butchered our league season.

Our best 13 players are a match for any team in the league. But we have been running at 60/70 or at best 80% for the last 14 months or so and it's catching up with us.

We'll finish outside the euro spots in around 7th to 11th but ahead of West Ham. Did you see their bench last night? They've been chugging along at 100% strength for months now..that cannot and will not last with europa league football. That bench was rancid.

Don’t worry if u get too many negative posts they just delete the thread like they did to 1 of mine about us not bringing anyone else in and with a week to go so far I was right! ( hope I’m wrong though )

I do agree, I think ultimately we are a victim of our own recent success. The media and other fans presume that after two back to back 5th place finishes, the next logical target would be top 4. Now, whether historically that is realistic is a different story, but obviously we do want to build on the momentum we have made.

We could never have foreseen the injury issues we are still experiencing at the back, I think what is important is that we rectify the issues at the other end. We are extremely easy to play against and this is a continuation of last season, we struggle against teams that sit back, we were slightly better last year as we had confident centre backs that can drive forward and pick out passes.

I get that we are all frustrated after an embarrassing evening and of course anything in the top 10 would be a good season all thing considered but we are in a good place with the squad we have and the momentum we have built and there is an eagerness to capitalise on that.

I feel what's not helped with this thread is that nobody really knows the true return dates from injuries.

I think I'm right in saying, all the return dates are largely ambiguous, which doesn't allow us a true reality of when we can start to have more depth in talent available.

Evans? Justin? Fofana? Vestergaard? Bertrand? Mendy?

I know it's always guess work, but we've only had cloudy info regarding their return dates.
