This is a pretty staggering collapse even by England’s standards.

Worst of the lot that one. We had a chance to salvage a bit of pride and completely blew it. Staggeringly bad decisions from some blokes who ought to have been playing as if their Test careers depended on it.

An embarrassing mess.

Truly disgraceful stuff from pretty much every single bat.

At 0/68 with one session of the day left chasing 270 we should have been able to make a game of it.
That was the most pathetic end to a game I’ve seen in a long time.

The last two defeats sum it up. Australia score 267- win by an innings. Average score over two innings in this game- 229. Win by 146.

The ECB deserve 10k empty seats at Test matches next year for presiding over this shambles of a 12 months where England look totally out of their depth against quality sides home and away.

The batting line-up, Root aside, wouldn't look out of place in the Bangladesh side of the early 2000's when it was starting Test cricket. The fielding would make a pub team angry.

Watching the wickets back, obviously the Stokes one is a shocker but the top 3 all got out not moving their feet. This is basic stuff, particularly if you’re at the top of the order.

The Crawley one in particular is just such a lazy shot, whereas Burns and Malan were clumsy.

Funnily enough I was looking for tickets to Trent Bridge and/or Edgbaston for the summer and there’s next to none left for days 1-3. And anybody buying expecting value out of day 4 when England are playing is hoping for rain on days 1-3.

We used to hear it after Euros and World Cups all the time but if ever “root and branch” reform of a sporting organisation is needed in this country it’s the ECB now. They’ve reaped what they’ve sown.

The one bit of good news to come out of this is that there is absolutely no excuse to not have a total reset for red ball cricket

Got another tour coming up soon.

Will they make changes that quickly?

Silverwood has been a total disaster. There's some players stealing a living a test level here.

Major change needed.

Get rid of Silverwood and on top of that Giles can go as well, then we can get rid of this job's for the boys mentality. Bring Kirsten in as test coach and someone like McDonald for the white ball sides.

Complete reset of the test side batting personel, get Bohannon, Foakes, Libby and Yates involved. Even get Livingstone involved just due to him being a player for big occasion along with giving us that counter attacking outlet much like Head has done for Australia.

Major change is needed, Silverwood has to go, confusing selections, hasn't improved and player, baffling tactics.

I like Root, but I think it time for a change, you only have to look at how having the right captain and approach changed Englands limited over sides.

For me he's not a leader, he's not strong enough to forge this rabble into a team.

I agree with what you’re saying about Root completely, however, the biggest question is who?
I can’t think of an England player who is certain of their spot in the side other than root.
Could you sacrifice some ability, to bring in a designated leader? Not sure, within the touring party has any leadership qualities.
