Don't give a toss if Maddison dived - in fact, I'm glad he did. Only last weekend we lost to Villa, and 90% of the reason for that is that their entire team spent the whole game diving to get 28 free kicks, which they used to score against us. Did anyone in the media have a negative word to say about it? No, just praise for sainted Gerrard and the "quality" of their performance. Of course, we had an excellent claim for a penalty turned down for a foul on KDH, despite their being clear contact. Could have had one first half for a foul on Barnes, who stayed on his feet and we had nothing. Did anyone from the pundit world condemn Neal Maupay for his armbar on Vestergard? Some of the most flagrant cheating you'll ever see, nobody bats an eyelid. But Maddison has his cards marked, has always gotten a rough ride from pundits and the press, so he gets put under a microscope as a "cheat", while the rest of the league is filled with players who don't get any criticism for their antics.

 

The game at this level is riddled with diving, if we are going to be the only team that doesn't, then we are naive idiots. Refs are shit, diving is rewarded -so if you don't get to diving yourselves, you'll be left trailing behind the pack as they cheat their way to success.

100% this. Watching the Napoli players flop about like wet fish the other night showed what cheating really looks like. Maddison was being constantly fouled by the opposition and the penalty was given not because maddison did a lovely aerial manoeuvre but because he was of obviously fouled.

 

Lascelles stuck his leg out. The result was inevitable. The only question is whether Maddison tripped too early or should have let his upper leg smash straight into the Newcastle player so he could spend the rest of the season on the bench with a recurring hip injury, but at least the papers would have been happy. Ridiculous.

The Penalty decisions the weekend were a Joke.

We've had so many genuine calls that weren't given that it does make a laugh of Var.

The idea of Var was to improve the game and the integrity of results.

This idea that Var can't overrule the on field ref is just daft. Everyone understands that they won't get every decision right for various reasons like players in the way etc.

When they do get it wrong Var should just step in and at least get him to check the touchline monitor. Then if he doesn't change his mind well and good.

This way you would get most tight decisions right and the right teams gets to benefit, protecting the integrity of the game.

But I guess ''right'' doesn't matter and nothing will change.

You really can't compare the likes of Abramovich, however horrid and questionable he may be, with a regime such as Saudi Arabia who defacto now own Newcastle. I don't recall him organising the state assassination of a journalist for eg. 

Let's not even get started on Saudi Arabia's treatment of the LGBT community. 

I agree with you on Man City.

my gut feeling is that this is due to us very rarely moving the ball quickly in this area or bursting into the box than specific refereeing

 

I could be completely wrong of course.

Can't believe this is still up on YT but a great video to see things from the away end. 

You get a good look at our defensive line in the first half and also see our atmosphere from looking in.
