Interesting if selling wood means they can't hit the quota....

Might be willing to let tarkowski go too if it gives them a chance to postpone a week and buy them an extra week in the window 🤣

...that would not be the case!!!

We would be playing in order to complete our fixtures. We maybe muddying the waters, by accepting to play and not meeting the required threshold of 13+1 but I would rather we went out and played and avoid the inevitable backlog down the line.

It maybe foolhardy, but I would like to see our club taking the lead on this.

We are all football fans so of course we all want the matches to be on - particularly those who are travelling.

The other issue is that if we play at Burnley even without the 13 that will have to be the end of the postponements even if we pick up more injuries.

I'm at the point where unvaccinated players that are having to self isolate due to being in contact with a covid positive person shouldn't count towards the absentees. If players are verified as injured or covid positive then fair enough. Otherwise academy players should be used to cover.

Vydra and Rodriguez vs Vestergaard and Hamza perhaps, still tough but I think there will be a lot of nerves around for Burnley having lost Wood and seen Newcastle potentially improve their chance of beating the drop, if we can get an early goal it could get pretty disheartening for them. And it's a cold day.... in Burnley. Life doesn't get much worse.

With Cornet going to the AFCON and Wood going to Newcastle there is no excuse as to why we shouldn’t beat these. Yes, our squad is thin at the moment but we still have much more ability. Get that early goal, silence the crowd and secure an easy three points please.

Burnley only need a few more covid cases and it will be pulled.

That is the only reason this game could/should be off. We have more than enough players to play the match even if we play the same starting XI as Watford.

We are only ok if we get players back fit right though?

As above, we are fine to play this game. We played Watford in the cup, it's in our best interest to play even if we only have 9 or 10 senior players. The fact Covid is in Burnley's camp is more of a concern.

In which case we should have played at Everton. We can’t just play because we are more likely to beat Burnley!

If that’s the case why didn’t we play the Watford 11 against Everton? You can’t pick and choose. You either have enough players to play or you don’t. The rules aren’t there for us to say we won’t play a weaker team at Everton with some of theirs back but are happy to play at Burnley because they have sold Wood and Cornet is away at afcon.

Is it so hard to understand?

Playing 1 game in 7 days is better than 2!!!

The Everton and Spurs games have been rearrnaged much too early, we can cope with 1 game a week but not 2 without risking more injuries and then not playing for a month.

Because the rules allowed us to postpone and play them when we potentially have a better chance of winning. We could have played the U23's and essentially gave away 3 points if we wanted but not sure the club have that sort of ambition.

I agree that the matches were arranged too early with the problems we already had. I just can’t agree that we can now choose to play some matches but not others even if the injury situation is the same.

Because we can. As long as we do not have 13 senior/experience outfield players, we can pick and choose when we play (as long as the PL board follow the rules). You can argue whether it is right or not but I don't want to end up with 7 games to play in April and May on top of our other fixtures. We will play 3 times a week. Rather play once a week and be competitive right now.

We are more than capable of putting a strong starting XI out on Saturday to do the job. And fingers crossed, we should have between 3 to 6 players back over the next few days.

Are you suggesting we play Burnley and postpone Spurs?

I’m pretty sure the premier league will not be letting us do this in any shape or form.

Phone rings in Brendan’s office:

premier league official: hi Brendan it’s Jim from the premier league here. I’ve just noticed you have got 2 games this week. Both look tricky, West Ham away and spurs at home. Do me a favour pick which one you fancy playing and I will sort out the cancellation of the other.

brendan: that’s remarkably kind of you, will the team I cancel against not be a bit upset?

Premier league official: no **** em mate, you only have to play one game.

Not a chance will the premier league be letting us pick and choose to play some and not others. Not a chance.

Correct but players that are available for Burnley having returned from an injury can be declared unavailable for the midweek game against spurs because they cannot play twice in four days after their lay off

.. I  am assuming you are saying we would have set a precedent and therefore could no longer use the existing laws we are all bound by!!!

If we choose to fulfill a fixture without meeting the threshold, then that is our prerogative, we see the fixtures down the line and are taking the steps to alleviate problems where games are going to be played too close together at the detriment of our players.

Of course if other teams choose to postpone games, then it is out of our hands and we are then forced to catch-up on games like everyone else.

We just did. We played Watford, didn't play Everton and we will play Burnley if it is our choice. Nothing they can do.

I doubt we would get away with cancelling Spurs though. Unless we pick up more injuries before then.

See above replies. Might be tricky for us to get that postponed unless we can make a good case. If it benefits us, why not. Otherwise, let's get it played as we have a 2 week break after the Brighton game.

Not quite because the Watford game was a cup game and we had to play.

They are looking at postponements on a match by match basis & there is no way they will let us postpone Spurs if we play Burnley, even though it may be within the rules to do so. Playing Burnley with less than 13 is a risk because that will be the end of the cancellations.

We as a club cant postpone a game. We can only request the PL cancel. If request meets their criteria the PL will postpone the game otherwise you play on. Wolves were denied earlier in season and had to play. Everton too until they “had 2 more injuries” on day of the game

As I say, let's get on and play because our situation isn't getting much better. When have we ever had a fully fit squad under Rodgers? I think the Everton one was a no brainer.
