100% he has the ability, just difficult to be at the physical level to play in the PL at 16.

Shame we didn't get a easier draw in the FA Cup, would have been a nice opportunity to give him a taste of the action.

Hoping we batter Randers in the home leg so we give a couple of the youngster a taste of European football.

Forest?
“It’s brilliant. I can’t wait. There’s always been a derby game at the clubs I’ve been at. They’re always intense affairs. I’ve not had that here yet, but this is as close as we get. We’ll look forward to that.”

Pride at Watford game?
“If that was my last game as a football manager, I’d have been so happy, with some young players, seeing how they were playing, the resilience we showed. Brunt had never played in front of more than 500 people before, to see how we played. Kasey creating a pre-assist for one of the goals. I felt for the two guys that didn’t get on, but their time will come.”

Transfer difficulties?
“Financially, for us we’re not like other clubs that can spend the money. It will be difficult for a lot of clubs. The club have always been supportive and if we can get a player in, they will do that. There is a need now and that’s something we’re looking at.”

Young players?
“Will has physical development left, but he is a very strong player for his age. Kasey McAteer, Sammy Braybrooke, Ben Nelson, Lewis Brunt, they have the physicality, but there are other aspects, football and tactics. It’s about whether it’s the right time to throw them in. If we didn’t have injuries and Covid, they might be on a pathway for a loan period. Every individual is different. Some need a League One loan or a Championship loan, some can go in straight away. I’ve got a keen eye to give young players an opportunity."

Criticism over Everton game being called off?
“According to the rules, we had eight players. With young players in the FA Cup, but not ready to be playing at a Premier League level. Just because you have players, it doesn’t mean they’re ready. The integrity of the league is important. We had eight fit senior players. It’s not as if I’m someone who doesn’t play young players. I’ve put them in if I feel they’re ready. If I don’t put them in, I don’t think they’re ready from a football or mental aspect. And I don’t want to curtail the career of a young player. We have to put in our squad for every game, and where they’re at from a medical perspective. This week has given us a chance to recover the players. We’re still short but we want to play football. Hopefully we can have a run of games.”

Benkovic?
“For a number of reasons. He was a player who had been playing first-team football and then came to Celtic and he was outstanding. He picked up some injuries, so his availability was disrupted. The loans haven’t worked out well for him. Personally, it hasn’t worked for him. He had issues back home he felt he had to deal with. He had to break the cycle. It wasn’t happening for him, so he needs a fresh start. I hope he can get his career back on track. Hopefully he can go away and have some time to recover. The Premier League is a difficult league to play. Unless you’re right physically and mentally, the Premier League is so difficult.”

Caution over Justin?
“The first steps back can be tentative. We only bring him back him when he’s physically and mentally right. His progress was halted by Covid but he’s been working his way back again. He’s a player who will really help our team. I’m delighted he will be available.”

Justin?
“He came through very well. It was initially getting that first appearance in and pulling the kit on again. He’s looked very strong in training and we feel that he can be drip-fed into the games. We’ll take a final look at him tomorrow and get the reaction from him. To have him back is huge. If we get some players like him, we can have a big second part of the season. It’s going to take him time being out so long. But over the course of the second half of the season, I’m sure he’ll get back to his level.”

Big players leaving - how affect clubs?
“We had Harry leave and Ben left, and you have to adapt. You can grow. But you don’t just lose the player, you lose the personality. I miss Christian Fuchs and Wes Morgan here. They set the standard. It may be the same for Chris at Burnley. They will look at the next one to bring in.”

Coutinho?
“An amazing player and a great guy. When we brought him in at 19, we hoped to get him to Chelsea, but then he went to Inter. We got him to Liverpool at 19, and he proved what a fantastic player he was. A very humble guy. I was so surprised it didn’t work out for him at Barcelona, as I thought if there was a player and a club that were aligned, it would be those two. If he feels the love, he will thrive. He has shown he is a top player and he will look to return to that level.”

“Youri’s very happy here. He’s developed and turned into one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. Clearly with a player with that quality and with the length of contract, he’s always going to be talked about. We hope he will sign a new contract. He’s a brilliant professional.”

Transfers?

Daka?
“He’s a player who has come in with experience. He will improve and develop. I’m delighted with the impact he’s made. He’s coped well with the intensity and he’s looked really dangerous every time he’s played. With Kelechi and Jamie, we have lots of top players there.”

Game going ahead?
“It does make it a lot easier. According to the rules, the FA Cup, you have to play with Under-23s and Under-18s. We’ve been trying to put out a squad that can be competitive. The game against Everton, you have to have 13 players and a goalkeeper. We didn’t have that, we had eight. With returning players, we can get on with the fixtures. The Norwich game that was called off, that wasn’t ourselves. The Everton game was put in by the Premier League, it wasn’t a scheduled game. With a thicker squad, hopefully we can get on with games now.”

Comments

13:55JORDAN BLACKWELL
Any players back?
“We’ve got a number of players returning, so we are in a much better place. Patson Daka, Luke Thomas, Caglar Soyuncu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and James Justin, which is great news for us, maybe not to start, but he’s back into the squad again.”

Good to know we've got players actually returning. Didn't Rodgers say Daka and Soyuncu would be back by Burnley?

Even if they don't play full games, good that they've recovered and can play some of the game.

Appears Durham created enough of a furor that Rodgers felt the need to justify the Club's actions at some length.  Shame how useless trolls so easily gain traction in this day and age.

By my calcs, assuming soumare is covid and JJ isn’t ready to start, we could still get this called off

someone let Durham know we are playing a game we don’t have to !

Its hammer time! Sounds like Rogers really wants the team to be back out there with the players he has and the ones returning. Its a great time to play burnley they are on their knees and don't have Woody to get his obliging goals against us. We need the 3 points and move on up - gotta use our games in hand wisely. COYF!

Nothing new today. Rodgers updated after the FA cup game last weekend that he had a dead leg that won't go away. He said something about a blood was pooling where he took the knock and was not going away.
