Hi folks - I'm nothing if not bang up-to-date with my random question for the day. Does anyone out there in Foxesland know who scored the first two goals in the friendly between us and Fiorentina in August 2001? I know that Dean Sturridge banged in a hat-trick and that Enrico Chiesa got their third goal - but who got the first two? All I can really remember about the match is getting completely soaked in a summer thunder storm on the way to the ground. The rest is completely forgotten history. (Sadly that was our best game of that best forgotten season).

Didn't Chiesa get a hat trick too?

Might be dreaming that but he was very good.

Remember Tomas Repka playing for them and my dad absolutely raving about him.

Thanks for all the replies. I know that Chiesa only came on in the second half, so it would have been impressive if he bagged a hat-trick in just over half an hour - so maybe it was Nuno Gomes and Chiesa who got the goals?

By the way, can anyone remember much about the City Allstars match at the end of that season to celebrate the end of Filbert Street? It wasn't as good as the Tottenham match which finished the season and we weren't allowed on the pitch after the game because the turf had been sold ! But can anyone remember the score in the main match (and the scorers there)?

Can't remember the score but remember being delighted to see the original Tommy Wright tearing down the wing again. Sure he bent one into the far corner too.

Shames he's turned out to be such a nob, used to idolise him as a kid.

Walsh scored the last goal from the penalty spot (against his own team).

I found a match report for the Fiorentina game:

Leicester and Fiorentina played out an entertaining 3-3 draw, with City striker Dean Sturridge grabbing a hat-trick.

Portuguese striker Nuno Gomes, the subject of much transfer speculation gave the visitors the lead in the 34th minute as Ian Walker palmed out Ezequiel Gonzalez's shot straight into the predatory striker's path.

Yet the Foxes were back on level-terms within a minute when Sturridge expertly guided his volley into the net.

The second half started in blistering fashion as Sturridge made it 2-1 to the hosts following an Alex Manninger error, only to see Enrico Chiesa make it 2-2 on the stroke of half time.

Fiorentina seemed set for victory when Chiesa curled in a delightful shot, only for Sturridge to prod home his hat-trick in injury time to leave matters level.

Is it just me or does this part of the match report not make sense.

You're right. How could it have been 2-2 at half time if it was 2-1 early in the second half?

Chiesa hat trick and sturridge hat trick. Was a great game and Chiesa was phenomenal. Had a good team then Fiorentina. Chiesa's son is pretty decent as well.

Nuno Gomes got La Viola's first.

My teacher once said at parents evening that if i put as much effort into my knowledge of Leicester City as i do my work, i could do anything. The fact i knew this match was 3-3 before i opened the thread probably proves his point.

Shit, no way. I went to this game with my Dad and my mate when I was 14 and I always tell people how I saw Chiesa score a hat trick. What a tit I am 🤣🤣

How Derby could do with him back in his late 90s prime now huh?!

Even our website doesn't know the answer 😅
