I'll be there, but I won't need catering for.

Thanks for going to the effort.

I know it says no donations, are you sure you've got costs covered? Nowhere we can chip in a few bob at all?

Well done for organising this, Bernie always raised a smile and he was Leicester through and through. I can’t be there because I’ll be away for a weeks holiday but I’ll be thinking of you all and raising a beer to him. RIP Bernie.

Thanks but honestly it is all covered. The solicitors have power of attorney and I don’t know the full amount of Bernie’s monies, but they have told me they can cover costs that are reasonable so I am doing a lot myself to save costs like the order of service, sorting out music, photos etc, etc, which is really just my time, which I don’t mind. I know the Local Hero wanted to help out doing something too but as there are no relatives it’s hard to know what. But again, thanks for the offer.

Thank you for organising.

Absolutely lovely what you have done. That's a truly fitting order of service for one of life's characters and a true supporter of LCFC.

Thank you. Did you see any glaring mistakes?

I live a long way away so there's no chance I can be there. Do you know if they will be streaming it. I know some churches/crematories do. Thanks

Not live streaming but I think I have an option of having it recorded to put online with a password for people so just need to get details from the funeral directors. Will let you know if I can get that sorted

Bernie's Order of Service - any glaring mistakes before it goes to print gratefully received??

You've done a great job there. Interesting to see the photos of Bernie as a young man - he seems to have been quite a handsome, characterful-looking young chap (not that he wasn't characterful in later years, of course!).

If you do manage to put any sort of recording or account online afterwards, I'm sure plenty of people will be interested....though I've no idea how much you or anyone else knows about his earlier life.

Do you know what year that programme profile is from? 1960s or 1970s?

You did ask about typos (or possibly auto-corrects).....

In "Abide with me":

- "they victory" -> "thy victory"

- "though" -> "thou" (occurs twice)

(Apologies for the nit-picking and I'm sure the odd typo doesn't matter......impressive job you've done and I hope his send-off goes well).

Don't apologise.  Sometimes you cannot spot things when you have done them, so thank you.  I am doing a eulogy outlining quite a few of his trips in the early years, and I made contact this week with a great guy who grew up with him, so I have a few tales there too. I can publish that afterwards and it will be on the video if it gets sorted.  The programme profile will be from the 70s with the mentions of Weller and Wortho .

That's great news that you found that early contact for a fuller perspective.

I should've worked out the programme era from those Weller/Wortho clues - not thinking things through properly!

You're right about having blind spots about your own work. Proof-reading forms part of my work, so it comes instinctively to notice minor errors in other people's writing, but I don't always spot them in my own - just last week I managed to completely omit 4 lines of a translation, which was a bit embarrassing when it was drawn to my attention...

Thanks for organising this great tribute.  The 'Order Of Service' looks very fitting in Bernie's memory.

As a fellow City fan from The Republic of Quorn I shall be going to the service to pay my respects. I'll be walking there of course - it's what he would have wanted I'm sure.

RIP Sir Bernard.  Aaaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!!

Those photos of young Bernie are so striking. And he was still shining in his later years, as you can see in this beautiful photo, which I wanted to post as a tribute both to Bernie and to @lcfcfem who has done such a fine job organizing the events next week.

That was sep 2018 getting him back for his first match. I had tracked him down to a care home after I heard he had passed. He hadn’t been to the matches for ages as he couldn’t walk very well. I was unable to take him every time as he needed a carer and I also sat up high in SK1 with a daughter that also needs help, so I managed to get him a companion and driver, Simon, to take him when he was well enough. He would come and have his pint and burger with me still though. Covid screwed all that up l, then his health deteriorated after his wife died, so he only got to one or two matches after we were allowed back to the games.

Will there be club representation? Birch?

I have approached the family and still awaiting a response but I understand The Birch is not in the best health himself. There are staff representation from the club attending.
