I will be attending as many a laugh in the old days picking Bernie up as he walked to an away game 

don’t worry about food for me I will just have a pint 🍺 in his memory 🦊

A wonderful deed of kindness.  I never knew Bernie, but I seem to remember his face from so many years ago. I shall not be there in person, but I shall in spirit, and I shall raise a glass to his memory at the time of the service. Well done to those who will attend, paying their respects to a real character.

Might be too late and if so I don't think it really matters as you see both spelling, but technically for the composition name its a single l in gallop.

Only know as my other half sorted out the very same thing for my dads funeral and found this out!

I would really like to make the effort to come, but I unfortunately can't swap my day off at work.

 

I know you said no donations to anything specific, but was Bernie in a hospice? Or where did he spend his final time?

 

If nothing specific, I'll chuck 50 quid to Bowel Cancer UK, which my Father in Law is affected by, in Bernie's memory.

 

Thank you for doing this for a City fan who has no family. You're a legend :appl:

He has been at recent games. Sat a couple of rows back from Top and Susan Whelan in the Directors Box.

Hi, Bernie was in a Care home for the last few years.  Bless you.  Yes give to a charity that is close to your heart in Bernies memory.  I am no legend though.  Just a friend that would help another friend, and I am so pleased I can do this for him.  So many lonely souls out there go without anyone around them.

I've been thinking about Bernie so much since he passed away - and I didn't even know him. That image of him striding purposefully down Leicestershire highways on his way to another City game - it's just so powerful (@David Baker - I'd love to hear more detail of those times you picked him up). That and the cycling trips, and the hitch-hiking - such a wonderful adventurous spirit. Somehow he represents the essence of this club, and his journeys represent our club's journey - across those long, long years before, finally, those glorious triumphs of 2016 and 2021. 

 

Isn't it appropriate then that our final game before his funeral is the same fixture as his first ever Leicester match - Leeds at home, though it might be too much to ask for us to repeat that 6-2 win in August 1948 - the game that wasn't only Bernie's first match, but the first time we ever wore a fox on our shirts. (Similarly appropriate was our first away trip after Bernie passing away - a visit to Molineux, the fixture from 60 years ago in which, miraculously, we can hear a young Bernie shouting 'Come on Leicester!' - see the Bernie RIP thread).

 

If you want a pay a special tribute to Bernie today, how about walking, or cycling to the King Power? The forecast doesn't look too good, but that never bothered Bernie.

I have managed to track down an old friend of his who went to the matches with him and they remained good mates all of these years until the last few when bernie couldn’t get to visit him. I have some great stores from Noel which I will recite in the eulogy I am doing. I can’t get many stories in as we have limited time, but Noel is the man in the know. I have organised the funeral to be videod and then apparently I can upload somewhere and let people have passwords to view. I will know more about this after Wednesday. I also have found this article about bernie getting married to Sylvia. He had loads of photo albums which I had sat and gone through a couple with Bernie a few years back. All Bernie’s belongings got picked up by an Auction company who I have now contacted, and I am hoping these albums come up in a lot in a couple of weeks so that I can purchase them as they are full of history.

Saw a few images and it looked like such a lovely send off for Bernie. Thank you from a far-flung fox who would have loved to be there.
