Bernie’s funeral

It was a very special send off. I had made no arrangements for the coffin to be carried in as the funeral people were covering that, but as Bernie drew up everyone was clapping and then one lad asked the funeral director if the lads could carry bernie in. So six of them stepped up and took bernie through. So proud of those lads. Thank you for all those attended and all those that could not but sent lovely messages . A true leicester send off. RIP my special friend.

Have a loads of fond memories of Bernie while growing up supporting Leicester. Mainly getting the night bus back home to Birstall in the 90’s after a midweek game Bernie was sure to be on there on the way to Loughborough, slagging off Forest or Derby, regardless of the score in the game he’s just watched
 

I’m also sure Birch got him on the pitch once at half time and he came dancing on waving an umbrella but that might be a rouge memory (must eat less cheese before going sleep!)

 

Proper character and someone who I’m really sad to have seen has passed on. Used to have a great vantage point in SKII to see Bernie, fez and all, cheering on the foxes, before his health deteriorated

 

Surely this has got to be a chant at some point of …..

His wish was to have his ashes mixed with his late wife and be scattered at Loughborough crem but we may be able to have a little to take to the KP.

Big shout out to @lcfcfem for everything you have done for Bernie.

Definitely happened, I can remember it. Birch referenced him walking to the matches as he introduced him.

 

I think this thread shows how wonderful people can be. From those that befriended him and made sure he had friends and someone looking out for him. To organising his funeral and giving him a wonderful send off, and those who turned up decked in blue to show respect to a man they hardly knew.
 

I think in a time when a lot is shouted about the wrongs of human kind it shows that on a personal level we are inherently good and caring.

From my memory Birch got him on the pitch, tried to ask him a couple of question over the mic, got some incoherent answers so leaned in closer then said ‘You’ve been drinking, haven’t you?’ to cheers from everyone and promptly ended the ‘interview’.

Amazing What you have done for Bernie, you should be very proud.

The jesters hat on the coffin was a lovely touching gesture.

It will be weird never seeing him shouting "Arrgh" at us ever again.

Bit rich coming from the Birch during that era. If he was sober for that Churchill idea then I'm the Pope.

RIP Bernie. It is strange to know we wont see him at games again. He was a staple at early away games I used to go to, years ago. 

Thoughts are with his family and friends.
