This is the crux of it. For the club to say it officially thinks that he is indisputably more influential than anyone else in its history is what I find slightly astounding. One of the most influential? Undoubtedly. But it's by no means clear cut and may again be disputed in the future, depending on what that holds.

 

It's also very surprising for a club that likes to plead neutrality on all sorts of issues lest it's seen to be upsetting sections of its fanbase.

My post about it going off subject was a general comment to whom ever it applied to it wasn't specially aimed at you

 

The argument about the most influential person/s is never going to be agreed on it's like asking who the best player/s are it's so subjective no one will change their minds

 

As for the references to our history any that was there, like the banner inside the stadium has been removed to be replaced by King Power.

 

As for this topic I think I've lost this 'battle' so will bow out and maybe revisit it another day.

A front and centre statue along with his face on huge banners around the stadium, his name now all over the training ground too, King Power literally thousands of times on boards inside the ground. Plus lets be honest that new stands also going to likely be ‘his’ too.

Everything you see is King Power. We are Leicester City Football Club.

 

 

Never understood the issue with KP branding everywhere.
There’s going to be some sort of advertising so why not all the same which looks better and is also actually linked to the club. 
 

It’s certainly better than betting companies.

I think the frustration comes when if your ground has no nods to football history but instead is one big advert for something else you feel a bit miffed.

 

Granted Im likely in the minority here but I hate the fact it even has a sponsor name. Stadiums are special places for football fans. They should not have hashtags and a like all over them.

 

Yeah betting company sponsorship is abhorrent. Not quite sure why we have multiple ones ourselves.

The onus is on fans to refer to the stadium by any other name if they choose to. Sadly, modern fans are brainwashed by the MSM (City, United, stadium sponsor names etc). Ours is on Freeman's Wharf and that's what it is to me.

I’m in full agreement about the lack of acknowledgment to our history there are a million things more we could and definitely should do there. 
 

I just accept that it’d be in and around advertisements nowadays and personally prefer it mostly one brand (KP) than loads of different ones.

When those who are on their knees and wiping their mouth while KPFC zip up their flies are done, they might realise that all we really want is recognition. Go and watch the Official History DVD. It's even on YouTube. Look at how rich our history and heritage is. Look at the people we've had represent our club. The tumultuous times, the great games, the ecstatic moments. We are lucky to have the history and memories that we do have. No, it's not European Cups and multiple league titles, but they're cherished by most who support this club, and realise it existed before 2010.

 

"Most influential" is such a silly thing to claim because it's entirely subjective. You could argue those who set up Leicester Fosse were the most influential, else we wouldn't even be here. The 1919 change to Leicester City, the 2002 Admin, MON, Brian Little, Gordon Lee, Tony James, Steve Claridge. All have their own influence on this club because of the trail they ultimately left to get us to this point.

 

When you brand the club in KP colours, when you unveil a statue and give the perception of ignoring our heritage, of course people are going to push back. In the last ten years we have achieved so much, but those times were so good because they intertwine with our history and what we've been through before.

 

We will be here long after the owners sell or end their association with this club. We will, our children will. But those memories will stay and all we want is recognition of those memories, from 1884 until now. They have a Club Historian, they have the priceless and incredible treasures that fascinate me sitting in their archives. They might well be planning for an incredible museum, multiple statues and displays that showcase us from then until now. Tell us! Get us excited! Get us involved in that process.

 

That's all we want.

I agree it could be celebrated more and probably will be in time but if you look in the shop there’s images and nods to our history. In the reception, and all around corporate there are photos going back decades. It’s something that’s not changed since they’ve arrived rather than something they’re choosing to ignore. Wasn’t it the owners who hired a club historian or was he in place during Mandy’s time?

Agree with this, there is a lot around the stadium, I went to a party at the ground and as you go up the staircase to the function room, on each floor there is a big glass cabinet with artefacts and items from over the years, it was really fascinating. The problem is it's just not in the places where the majority of people go when attending games etc. and it's that visibility that I think irks a lot of people.

 

I would say the important thing is to raise this issue where possible with the club, but also maybe reserve judgement until the stadium expansion and the new club shop etc. is completed. With all of our rich history there is no doubt they could open a museum or add new details around the new stand that promotes different era's of our clubs history.

You know when Kobe Bryant died in a horrible helicopter crash, and people called him the greatest basketball player of all time, most folks had the common decency not to see it as an opening for a debate on who was really the greatest basketball player of all time.

 

Vichai died in a helicopter crash while leaving a game at our stadium. It was a horrible tragedy that has deeply affected the personnel working at the club, not least his son, our current chairman. I think, given those facts, a certain hyperbole at the unveiling of his statue at the stadium where he literally gave his life for the club can be forgiven.

 

Yeah, if Vichai were still alive and the club literature described him as such, then eyebrows would rightly be raised. But he's not. He died at the stadium, well before his time. 

 

That some people are up in arms over this -- and one or two of the comments on this thread are actually literally vile -- is flabbergasting, even putting aside the fact that the CEO actually answered the concerns they raised in her comments!

...who is more influential, the architect who design a great building, using steel as the framework to go higher and higher or the person who has the idea that removing the impurities from iron, could create this revolutionary material, that transformed the way we sought to build buildings.

 If you attribute greatness to yourself, you are only setting yourself up for ridicule. Let others bestow that accolade, even if you do believe the statement to be true yourself.
