I’m always cautious of overestimating my ability and normally end up cursing myself for starting too far back! This is why I like Conkers as you line up in approximate finish times.

Yeah some of the better organised ones have it. Or a pacer.

@Ric Flair smashed his 5k record today with a sub 23

After struggling a little with training over recent weeks, l did the Monklands Half Marathon this morning.

There weren't really many fun runners.  Instead, there were plenty of club runners who hared off at the start.  I finished 3rd last, (someone has to lol ) in 2hr 39m, some 17 minutes behind my last finish there in 2019.

You finished ahead of everybody who didn’t do it!

Just done a 32k to hit 20 miles. Absolutely horrid. I've done a couple of light runs this week including a 6.5 yesterday. I knew I wasn't up to it today because I felt a bit of pain in that run yesterday. I don't think I give myself long enough to recover maybe.

I was doing alright until the last 10k and my achy legs gave up. My ankle is killing me. I don't mind admitting I had to stop a few times and walk for some to hit 32k.

Need to have a long rest period before doing that distance again. Anything over 20k starts to put real pressure on the legs.

It's annoying because cardio wise or fitness wise I don't feel bad at all. But **** me my legs are in agony

I don't know what has hit me, but it's put me on my arse. I did 18k across Wednesday and Thursday, today I don't think I'd get 500m without needing to stop to get my breath.

Sometimes just need the rest mate. Unless I was doing around 5ks I never try to run more than two consecutive days really. It depends how fit you are too right now too obviously but I wouldn't worry about it and give yourself some rest

Cheers mate I've been flying recently and back to back days haven't been an issue, but the running and gym load has definitely crept up the past 2-3 weeks so might be that.

If you have body pain then rest is needed for longer, from what you say I'd have two to three days off and do a shorter run for a first come back.

Tbf I should listen to my own advice, my legs tell me I need to rest and I don't always. Problem I have is I get bored especially on days off living alone, and I feel so much better for running both mentally and physically. But we all have to listen to the bodies!

First non football match run for a while last night after a weekend of eating crap and drinking, managed 5k in 23 mins which is just about par for me so I was happy with that.

I really need to get back on the longer runs when the football season ends.

Right then squad, after about 4 weeks out with a foot injury from football after my first 5k attempt a short while back..

I've got myself some proper running trainers and tomorrow I'm ready to go. I am so excited to get started, target is the Rothley 10k, but sadly not this year as I'm on holiday!

Using this thread as my motivation to keep on running!

I’ve signed up to the Rothley 10k as my second 10k so looking forward to that. Anyone done it before and how flat is it?

All the entry money goes to Loros so seemed like a no brainer to do.

It’s not very flat! There is an infamous hill you have to go up twice

Agree with Cosbehfox, it's not flat. Worth practicing a few bits of hills before the day

Ballot for London 2026 is open for anyone that’s interested.

I've entered, hoping if I'm really rude about how I secretly hope I won't be selected means I actually will.

Did you pay to enter the 2nd chance? What’s that all about!

Final few weeks marathon training. Not entirely following the suggested mileage as my knees are starting to feel it, but sticking to the big runs.

14 miles on (mostly) flat, allowed some space to absolutely gun it. Achieved a 25 min 5k within. Proper made up.
