The six that we had in League One were all considerably better than him too. Then you have Pressman, Douglas, Henderson… yeah I’m still going with them over Ward.

Even Conrad Logan, past and present!

Ricardo and Mark Grew (I go back a long way) were both significantly worse than Ward.

He was over priced, then underplayed  and then over exposed in a team of players that were largely ambivalent to the plight of the club and weren't wanted by a manager who wanted out himself.

He's not up to the job, that's clear, but the level of responsibility he's expected to shoulder and the vitriol towards him is wholly disproportionate.

The only level of responsibility he’s ever been expected to shoulder is to do his job properly and demonstrate the ability of a senior international goalkeeper playing in the premier league. That’s not a disproportionate expectation and he has failed to deliver to that reasonable expectation catastrophically!

Although I'm sure Danny Ward doesn't just play to let goals in for fun (as many seem to be suggesting!), then all the same for a club that has generally prided itself on having great no.1s (Gordon Banks, Shilton, Wallington, Kasey Keller, Tim Flowers, Kasper Schmeichel and now Hermansen), then the Welsh international has been a real blot on the old copybook as a general signing, with his performances between the sticks, not to mention the amount of time he's been here now!

Was Ricardo that bad? He only played around a half dozen games. My overriding memory of him is that he preferred to punch the ball rather than catch it which was the main reason for his unpopularity. Don't recall a ward like ability to let every other shot in.

Decent chance he plays tomorrow. RVN might not want to risk anything with Mads, and Stolarczyk still isn't 100% fit yet, especially not for a PL debut.

As long as Mads is fit for Sunday

Zero chance he plays  tomorrow. For a start the game isn't tomorrow. But, pendanticness aside,  the new manager will be aware of the strength of feeling.

As somebody rightly said against Newcastle, we'd have been better off forfeiting the game and taking the 3-0 hit. Same applies to Sunday. What a scenario eh?

do we reckon hes the worse keeper we've seen at the club?

who has been given the chance of being number 1?

id say hes the worst i can remember

So hard because we've seen lots of different goalkeepers here but in terms of how much he has cost us then yes I think he's the worse.

People always bring up Pressman but we signed Pressman at the very back end of his career. He had already had a career as a constant Premier League goalkeeper. Same with Rab Douglas, he had been solid for Celtic and we signed him when he was already 30+. Those two as examples are not comparable to paying £12m for a mid 20 year old goalkeeper who is probably on a decent wage too.

Ward was never good enough. The calls for him to replace Kasper at the time were a joke. That's why I said, on the first page of this thread, to get rid of him if anything. He has always been poor for us. The only time I have ever had confidence in him is when we're facing penalties.

100% agree.

Our game is on Sunday.

They weren’t worse, cost nothing not £12m, and the vitriol isn’t nice but no surprise given how utterly rubbish he is at a job he gets paid £6m / year to do

Ricardo and Mark Grew worse than Ward - Put that under unpopular opinions I hold

The start of the 2022 / 2023 season up to about Feb 23 when he was more or less ever present was the worse sustained period of goalkeeping I've ever witnessed - It was truly shocking

Grew conceded 14 goals in his 5 games for us.

Ward was very poor I'm not disputing that but so were many others, our defendsive organisation was dreadful and our inability to keep possession meant we were doing a lot of it.

When you use the word sustained, didn't he have a spell of 5 clean sheets in 7?

This match is to important Ward cannot play the players don't trust him Stolarczyk has better command of the box and is a good keeper, The 90 mins in the U23 is good enough worlds better than what we would get with Ward in goal.

186 pages of saying how crap someone is? Well it isn’t nice, but it is a reflection of the frustration of people.

I was rather hoping we’d never see him in an LCFC squad again after our relegation season. That’s right for us, but also right for the player who would struggle to redeem himself in the minds of the fans of this club. Yet, there he was, on the pitch, at Newcastle, in a Premier League game.

I realise there were a collection of circumstances that enabled him to be back in the squad (i.e. injuries to our best 2 goalkeepers) but, even so, it was still depressing to see him on the pitch again. He needs to go, as soon as possible, for his own sake and for ours!

If my memory is correct some of the goals Grew conceded in the 5 games were absolute worldies , top corner jobs from 30 yards ect

Ward is awful I give everyone that but no where near the worse goalie we have had. The worse by far and in order have to be.
1 Colin Mackleworth

2 Carl Jayes

3 Mark Grew

4 Spider Kalac

5 Ricardo

6 Rab Douglas

7 Martin Hodge

ive stopped at 7 as it’s making me shake with PTSD
