On the basis of that he looks likely to blow over in a gentle breeze. Whilst he has some close skills, is he any better than a Perez mk11? If his name was Seth Smith from Barnsley would we be interested? I'd hazard a guess that players for Porto will probably have a better career than someone from Barnsley, Seth Smith may be the exceotion to that of course. 1

Yes, absolutely right of course but my main point is that some people like a bit of perceived glamour or exotic name 🤣

If we do, presumably we'll be getting our moneys worth. well that’s not an obligation then if we can choose the terms.
Popular Post Deeg67 Posted 8 June 2022 Popular Post Posted 8 June 2022 Don’t know much about the player TBH but I like the idea of pairing that dashing d’Artagnan facial hair with KDH and giving us a sort of Musketeers starter kit. 9

A loan with obligation isnt just a loan where you're immediately committed to buy the player. There is a set of criteria to be met before the obligation is triggered. Like try before you buy!

The triggers are usually pretty straightforward with a low bar - it would be unlikely that they wouldn’t be met. otherwise you may as well have the deal as an option to buy at an agreed price (as we currently have with lookman). The obligation to buy route is generally used as a way to kick the fee down the road for the buying club. Effectively there are different ‘ obligation to buy’ deals. some will allow the player to back out - sometimes it will be in the selling clubs interest to have a deal structured this way and more often the buying club (for ffp reasons). But as a rule, if there is an obligation to buy then the deal will nearly always go through.

JimJams Posted 8 June 2022 Posted 8 June 2022 If the obligation kicked in after the player makes 30 appearances then you're in control over whether or not it becomes obligation. But you have that condition in the terms of the loan. So there absolutely is a way of getting out of it. Which is why it's done. So if he's crap, you simply don't play him enough to make the terms active.

If you put in clauses like that you'd just be doing your job. It's pretty standard practice. Ghendouzis loan to Marsielle had such clauses. https://dailycannon.com/2022/03/guendouzi-permanent-marseille/ From that article: Quote It’s been common knowledge for a long time that Guendouzi had an obligation to buy in his Marseille contract. But the obligation was only active under certain conditions. That’s fairly standard practice with an obligation to buy. For example, Konstantinos Mavropanos’ loan will only automatically turn permanent if Stuttgart avoid relegation. David Ospina’s 2018/19 loan to Napoli only turned permanent if he made 25 appearances. It's quite normal. Edited 8 June 2022 by JimJams

Not quite true - as I said earlier, obligations to buy are not always transparent ….. My understanding was that it isn’t officially an obligation, but the clauses to make it permanent are very gettable. So essentially is an obligation to buy. Believe Mavropanos deal was similar. Think that one goes through provided Stuttgart stay up.
JimJams Posted 8 June 2022 Posted 8 June 2022 Yes and the Ospina deal goes permanent on 25 appearances. So like is said in the beginning for big money moves for us, this would be a better option.
